Tho usual preliminaries woro observed , and tho W . M . rehearsed tho

Birkenhead . Tho Chapter having been oponod and tho Companions admitted , tho ballot was taken respectively for Bros . J . Paul Ryland , F . S . A ., William . Robinson and Dr . Walter . The Lodge was opened in tho second and third degrees and closed to the first . Bro . Biddlo was elected W . M . for tho ensuing week . Business being ended , tho Lodgo was closed in duo form , and adjourned .

Prosperity Chapter , No . 290 . —The regular Convocation of this Chapter was held on Wednesday , 11 th instant , at tho Masonic Hall , South Parade , Huddersfield . Tho attendance of members was but meagre , compared with previous meetings . Chapter was opened by Comp . B . Hntchinson P . Z ., for Comp . Allen Haigh Z . ( absent ) , George Sykes II ., Farrer J . The minutes having been road and

confirmed , tho only business—tho election of Officers for the ensuing year—was proceeded with , and resulted as follows : —Comps . Georgo Sykes Z . W ., Gomm S . D ., C . E . Botley J . D ., Goss ( P . M . ) I . G ., Roo ( L ' . M . ) Preceptor , Tucker Treas ., Gunner Hon . Sec , Blasby , Irwin , Doroy , Andrews P . M . 77 , & c , Niner P . M . 710 , & c , and othor brethren . Lodgo was

opened and the minutes of last meeting wero read , confirmed and signed . Tho sum of £ Lis was unanimously voted to a distressed brother , and the members kindly supplemented tho vote by a subscrip . tion amongst themselves . The amounts were handed to tho brother , who in touching terms referred to tho vicissitudes of fortune which had fallen to his lot , and heartily thanked tho brethren for their kindness .

Tho business of tho evening was then proceeded with . Bro . Acworth worked tho ceremony of initiation , Bro . Niner kindly acting as candidate . Lodgo was opened to 3 rd , aud closed to 1 st degree . Bro . F . Botley was elected W . M . for tho mooting on 20 th inst . On tho motion of Bro . Tucker , seconded by Bro . Roe , Bro . Andrews ( P . M . 77 ) was unanimously admitted a member of this Lodge of Instruction . Bro .

Blasby thanked tho brethren for tho hearty good wishes oont iu their name to him by tho Hon . Sec , on his marriage . Iu pursuance of notice given at the previous meeting tho Hon . Sec , brought forward tho motion , — " That a ball be given under tho auspices of this Lodgo of Instruction , towards meeting the expenses incurred in acquiring additional premises for tho Girls' School . " Bro . Gunner expressed it

as his conviction that it was tho duty of every Mason to endeavour to reduce the strain upon tho Funds consequent upon such acquisition ; nnd his willingness to lend a hand in that direction . Bro . F . Botley seconded the proposition in a humorous speech , aud Bros . Roe , Goss , Tucker and others expressed their views on tho subject , which provoked considerable discussion . The general view appeared

to be that sufficient notice had not becm given , as many brethren present had not heard of the matter till this evening , aftor some discursory remarks , and questions to Bro . Gunner regarding expense & c ., connected with the proposed ball , tho matter was put to tho vote . So few of tho brethren voted that Bro . Gunner expressed his great disappointment at tho failure , for tho present , of his motion , and witb

tho consent of Bro . F . Botley ( tho seconder ) begged to withdraw his proposition . Being urged by tho W . M . and several brethren not to withdraw tho motion , but to bring it forward on another occasion , tho Hon . Sec . explained that his experience of such matters was , that from the first step it was absolutely necessary that all should pull together , for a perfect success could never bo expected or obtained

where , at tho outset , ono or two adverse voices wero raised , ho bogged , with duo respect to the chair , to decline to alter his resolve at least for the present . Bro . Blasby then gave notice that he would at tho next meeting , bring forward a motion of a similar purport to that withdrawn by tho Hon . See . Lodgo was then closed in due form , and tho meeting adjourned for n week .

Hawes , J . Andrews . Lodgo was oponod in duo form and tho coromony of raising was worked , Bro . Veal candidate . Bro . J . Taylor worked tho 1 st and 3 rd sections of tho lecture , with tho assistance of tho brethren . Bro . Andrews AV . M . 1227 was elected to tho chair for tho 9 th March . The Annual Supper will tako place ou tho 2 ud March , when wo hope there will bo a full meeting .

W ., Gomm S . D ., C . E . Botley J . D ., Goss ( P . M . ) I . G ., Roo ( L ' . M . ) Preceptor , Tucker Treas ., Gunner Hon . Sec , Blasby , Irwin , Doroy , Andrews P . M . 77 , & c , Niner P . M . 710 , & c , and othor brethren . Lodgo was

opened and the minutes of last meeting wero read , confirmed and signed . Tho sum of £ Lis was unanimously voted to a distressed brother , and the members kindly supplemented tho vote by a subscrip . tion amongst themselves . The amounts were handed to tho brother , who in touching terms referred to tho vicissitudes of fortune which had fallen to his lot , and heartily thanked tho brethren for their kindness .

Tho business of tho evening was then proceeded with . Bro . Acworth worked tho ceremony of initiation , Bro . Niner kindly acting as candidate . Lodgo was opened to 3 rd , aud closed to 1 st degree . Bro . F . Botley was elected W . M . for tho mooting on 20 th inst . On tho motion of Bro . Tucker , seconded by Bro . Roe , Bro . Andrews ( P . M . 77 ) was unanimously admitted a member of this Lodge of Instruction . Bro .

Blasby thanked tho brethren for tho hearty good wishes oont iu their name to him by tho Hon . Sec , on his marriage . Iu pursuance of notice given at the previous meeting tho Hon . Sec , brought forward tho motion , — " That a ball be given under tho auspices of this Lodgo of Instruction , towards meeting the expenses incurred in acquiring additional premises for tho Girls' School . " Bro . Gunner expressed it

as his conviction that it was tho duty of every Mason to endeavour to reduce the strain upon tho Funds consequent upon such acquisition ; nnd his willingness to lend a hand in that direction . Bro . F . Botley seconded the proposition in a humorous speech , aud Bros . Roe , Goss , Tucker and others expressed their views on tho subject , which provoked considerable discussion . The general view appeared

to be that sufficient notice had not becm given , as many brethren present had not heard of the matter till this evening , aftor some discursory remarks , and questions to Bro . Gunner regarding expense & c ., connected with the proposed ball , tho matter was put to tho vote . So few of tho brethren voted that Bro . Gunner expressed his great disappointment at tho failure , for tho present , of his motion , and witb

tho consent of Bro . F . Botley ( tho seconder ) begged to withdraw his proposition . Being urged by tho W . M . and several brethren not to withdraw tho motion , but to bring it forward on another occasion , tho Hon . Sec . explained that his experience of such matters was , that from the first step it was absolutely necessary that all should pull together , for a perfect success could never bo expected or obtained

where , at tho outset , ono or two adverse voices wero raised , ho bogged , with duo respect to the chair , to decline to alter his resolve at least for the present . Bro . Blasby then gave notice that he would at tho next meeting , bring forward a motion of a similar purport to that withdrawn by tho Hon . See . Lodgo was then closed in due form , and tho meeting adjourned for n week .
