R.M. Institution For Boys. Analysis Of The Subscription List.

Prince Leopold being unable , as we have said , to preside , as he had promised to do . In 1876 , the Province gave £ 289 16 s to our Boys , and £ 115 10 s to the Girls , and in

1875 , £ 2 * 21 to the former , and £ 271 5 s , including £ 100 from its late P . G . M ., AVIIO was Chairman , to the Benevolent . Thus , it has taken part in nine out of the tAvelve Festivals , and has contributed on theso several occasions sums

amounting together to £ 1 , 544 17 s . Next stands Suffolk ( nineteen Lodges ) , its Prov . G . Secretary , Bro . W . H . Lucia , the present Grancl Sword Bearer , appearing for the Royal St . Edmunds , No . 1 , 008 , the elder of the Bury St . Edmunds Lodges , with £ 120 15 s , as the very creditable result of

his labours . In May it gave the Girls sixty guineas , in February £ 94 2 s to the Benevolent , making a total for the year of £ 277 17 s . In 1877 , it someAvhat exceeded this total , as it gave £ 115 10 s to the Boys , £ 91 19 s to the Girls , ancl £ 111 14 s to the Benevolent , making together £ 319 3 s . In

1876 , its present Dep . P . G . M ., the Rev . C . J . Martyn , was SteAvard for tho Boys and Girls , and tAvo Lodges gave between them £ 77 to the Benevolent , Avhile in 1875 it gave to our Boys £ 102 18 s , Bvo . Lucia being ono of the two Stewards , and the sum of £ 64 19 s Cd to the Girls , so that

it has only been out of the list once in the four years . The eighteen Lodges of Surrey sent five SteAvards , one being General Brownrigg , the Prov . G . Master , and there is still one list to be returned , but a total of £ 195 5 s 6 d has already been reached , £ 141 15 s being the amount of

Gen . Bi'ownngg ' s list , which , we presume , must be taken as representing the Avhole Province . £ 42 10 s to the Girls ' School in May , and £ 66 18 s to the Benevolent in February make the total thus far for the current year £ 304 13 s Oct In 1877 , its donations to the three Institutions amounted

to £ 242 5 s 6 d . In 1876 , it gave the Boys £ 210 15 s Cd , £ 31 10 s to the Girls , £ 65 5 s to the Benevolent ; AA'hile in 1875 , £ 27 16 s 6 d Avent to the Boys , £ 75 13 s to the Girls , and £ 27 0 s 6 d to the Benevolent . Thus it has been represented more or less effectively at all

twelve Festivals . Sussex , with nineteen Lodges , sent Stewards from two of them , and they raised between them £ 89 5 s . It had already in the present year given £ 29 8 s to tho Girls , and £ 84 10 s to the Benevolent . It distinguished itself greatly at the

Festival of the Boys' School last year , Avhen its representative , the Deputy P . G . M . ancl a member of the Royal Clarence , No . 271 , the oldest of tho Brighton Lodges , took in a list of £ 270 ISs . Following as this did on a contribution by three Stewards of £ 233 7 s Cd to the Girls , and of £ 158 13 s , we

think the Province was greatly to be commended . In 1876 it gave £ 206 5 s Od to the Boys , ancl £ 106 to the Benevolent , and in 1875 £ 112 7 s to the Boys , ancl £ 77 2 s to the Girls , so that it has been representee ! at ten out of the last twelve Festivals , and last year it gave among them no

less than £ 662 17 s 6 d . Warwickshire , as AVC know , has done great things on sundry of these occasions , and the manner in which it supported its respected Prov . Grand Master , Lord Leigh , Avhen he occupied tho chair at the Boys' Festival Avill ahvays be remembered to its credit , the

sum being exactly £ 2000 , ancl all but one of its twenty-six Lodges being represented . These have since increased to twenty-nine , and two Birmingham Lodges , the Solihull , and one of the Warwick , by the hands of five Stewards , send together £ 215 15 s 6 d . This is in addition to the sum of

£ 207 18 s given to the Girls in May last . Last year it was represented at each of the Festivals , £ 467 5 s Cd being the sum of its subscriptions to the Benevolent , Avhile the total for the three was onl y a little short of £ 600 , or to be exact £ 598 10 s 6 d , there being in one case a list to be accounted

for . We have already alluded to its contribution of £ 2000 to the Boys the year previous , and the Girls were benefited to the extent of £ 262 10 s . In 1875 it was entered at the Boys' Festival for £ 380 2 s , at the Girls' Festival for £ 21 , and £ 70 to the Benevolent . The total for the eleven

festivals reaches £ 3 , / 'o 5 16 s , or an average per Festival of over £ 341 . Three of the twent y-five North and East Yorkshire Lodges sent up SteAvards , and their lists made a total of £ 85 5 s , £ 31 10 s having been handed to the Benevolent in February , and an amount , not stated , to tho Girls '

School in May . It figured at the Festival of the Boys and Benevolent last year , at the Benevolent in 1876 , and at the Boys and Girls in 1875 ; but , as Ave have said more than

once before , Ave scarcely think the amount of its contributions is worthy of its position in the Craft . We trust , therefore , that the year 1879 will be more productive . Let it be noted , hoAvever , that the Eboracum , No . 1611 , the junior Locige of the City of York , which was only constituted

R.M. Institution For Boys. Analysis Of The Subscription List.

towards the end of 1876 , has done its duty admirably as a young Lodge . It has subscribed twenty-five guineas out of tho total £ 85 5 s contributed to this Festival . A like sum Avas given to the Boys last year , and it has been represented at tho two Benevolent Festivals Avhich have taken

place since its foundation , £ 19 5 s being the amount of its Stewards' lists in 1877 , and £ 11 10 s that of its representative in February last . Thus , in less than two years this small but healthy Lodge has given an aggregate of £ 83 5 s at tho four Festivals referred to—a notable example , and one Avell

Avorthy to bo followed by the other Lodges in tho Province . West Yorkshire heads the list of the Provinces with a subscription of five hundred guineas ( £ 525 ) , there being tAventy-one—or , if we add Sir Henry Edwards and Captain WordsAvorth—twenty-three brethren representing the

Province . Add to this £ 900 , given to the Girls in May , and £ 603 5 s to the Benevolent in February , and Ave have a total result for this year of £ 2 , 028 5 s . The total for the threo years 1875 , 1876 , and 1877 amounted to £ 4 , 684 , so that since January , of the first of these three , West

Yorkshire has contributed over £ 6 , 712 , which gives an average per Festival of nearly £ 560 . North Wales and Salop ( tAventy-five Lodges ) is represented by three , tho aggregate of their lists reaching £ 169 Is—Bro . R . J . Sisson ' s list accounting for £ 137 lis of this total . There

is a small contribution by the same brother in May last , and it gave the Boys £ 175 7 s in 1877 , and something to the Girls , while the Sir Watkin Testimonial is still in course of being raised , so that Ave must congratulate the Province , on its liberality on the present occasion . As for

the Eastern Division of South Wales , Avith its eleven Lodges , it is doAvn for £ 84 ; and it gave tho Girls £ 117 12 s in May , as well as £ 132 15 s to the Boys last year ; and it had figured likewise at other Festivals in 1875 and 1876 . We must add that the Provincial

Grand Lodge , Royal Order of Scotlaud , for Lancashire and Cheshire , contributed £ 105 by the hands of Brother J . F . Tweedale , so that the 111 Provincial Stewards have , so far , raised among them £ 5 , 152 18 s Id . Foreign parts give £ 71 10 s , of Avhich fifteen guineas is from Hong

Kong , and £ 55 15 s from the Punjab , £ 50 10 s being the amount of Major Ramsay , tho Dist . G . Master's list . Tho Grand Mark Locige per Bro . C . Fitz Gerald Matier has sent £ 68 6 s , and presuming we ought in justice to add this to the Metropolitan total , AVC raise that from £ 4 , 876 8 s to

£ 4 , 944 14 s . There are still several Provincial lists to como in , so the latter , like the Metropolitan , stand a good chance of being increased by a few hundred pounds . Such , Avith the figures as announced at the Festival itself , is tho result of a year ' s labours on behalf of the Boys '

School , and Ave repeat Ave are by no means satisfied Avith tho result . We think it should , all things considered , at least have equalled that of last year , and there is no reason why it should not have been greatly in excess . One or two other points must be mentioned . Her Majesty , Avho

is Patron of the Institution , gave fifty guineas , and His Royal Highness the Chairman contributed a similar amount . It Avas also the first occasion on Avhich any allusion was made publicly to the approaching marriage of the Duke of Connaught with the Princess Louise of

Germany , and the mention of her name Avas enthusiastically applauded . The arrangements gave general satisfaction , and indeed Ave feel justified in congratulating everybody on everything save the matter to which Ave have alluded , and which is the one solitary drawback to the pleasure it has given us to prepare this analysis .
