Ho hoped soon ( o havo the

bye-laws ready for distribution , and also to havo tho bye-laws of individual Chapters approved by the Prov . G . Supt . E . Comp . BOAVBS proposed the M . E . Z ., Officers , and members of the Kendal Castle Chapter , No . 129 , and in doing so referred to his long connection Avith the Chapter , having been one of the promoters and tho first M . E . H . He complimented the present Officers for tho zeal they

manifested as promoters of the Royal Art , ancl made an especial reference to the M . E . Z ., E . Comp . Joseph Bintley , who had been for many years a Avorkcr in tho good cause . The toasfc Avas very warml y received . E . Comp . Bintley in reply thanked all present for tho reception they had given to tho toast , so kindly proposed by their old and valued friend Comp . Bowes . He had done something for the

and now in course of development in many portions of the colony , in Avhich direction tbe attention of the capitalist and the trading portion of the community had been largely diverted . Another cause existed in tho distance between Hobart Town and Lannceston , rendering ifc very inconvenient for members of the Committee of General Purpose ( who Avere selected from all the Lodges ) to meet to prepare a

draft of laws and regulations for the government of the D . G . Lodge , It Avas found requisite to appoint a sub-committee composed of members of the Hobart Town Lodges for tho purpose . On tho subject of finance , tho G . Sec reported that in the absence of any power to demand ov receive payment of any fees from tho Lodges until after the making , confirming and subsequent approval

of D . G . Lodge hows and regulations , it had hitherto boon necessary to meet all tho disbursements from pri \ -atc sources . The only amount received had been £ 2 2 s from the D . D . G . Master for foe payable to the Grand Lodgo on his appointment , which has been remitted to and acknoAvledged by tho ft . Secretary . The whole of tho regalia and appointments for tho D . G . Lodgo wero imported to the order of , and

paid for by tho R . AV . D . G . Master , for which the D . G . Lodge is still indebted to him , loss £ 10 10 s , proposed optional fee payable to D . G . Lodge ou his appointment , aud Avhich he has authorised to be deducted from tho amount . D . Grancl Secretary then gave a brief report of tho condition of tho various Lodges under the rule of tho District Grand Lodge , and then referred to the

Tasmauian Masonic Benevolent Fund , which , ho stated , Avas established in Tasmania , A . D . 1843 , Avith the object of assisting aged and distressed worthy brethren , and to afford relief to their widoAVS and orphans . It was supported by annual subscriptions and voluntary contributions by members of the Order , its constitution being such as to invito subscriptions from , ancl afford relief to , all contributing

members of Lodges subscribing to the fund , Avithout respect to the constitution nnder ivhich tho Lodge is held . Ho hoped that such arrangement may bo made by D . G . Lodge , relating to tho collection of Masonic funds for purposes of benevolence , as will nofc materially interfere with the constitntion of this old established ancl thoroughly effective Masonio organisation . lie was informed there was also a

Masonic Fund for benevolent purposes m Lannceston , but no account of its constitntion or report of its proceedings had reached him . In concluding Avhat may be justly termed merely an inaugural or progress report on tho establishment of tbo District Grand Lodgo , the D . G . Sec . Avould fain express a hope that tho rulers of the Craffc in Tasmania Avonld not permit the present Masonic inactivity long

to continue . The immense extension of tho Order in all parts of the world AS-onld bring with ifc a corresponding demand on their benevolent resources ; it therefore behoves thoso in authority in the Lodges to be earnest in practising the principles they profess to admire , and on Avhich tho Order is mainly founded , viz ., Brotherly Love , Belief , and Truth , and also to use all legitimate means afc thoir disposal in
