Phoenix Lodge , No . 173 . —The regular meeting of this ancient and flourishing Lodge was held on Saturday , tho 13 th instant , at the Freemasons' Hall , Great Queen-street , and was numerously attended by tho brethren and visitors . Sevoral matters in connection with the Lodgo wero discussed , and a petition on behalf of the widow of a distressed brother , late a member , was recommended to

the Board of Benevolence , and then Lodgo was closed . The brethren sat down to a snmptnons banquet and dessert , provided by Bro . A . Best , and superintended by Bro . Dawkins . Grace having been sung by Bros . Lawler , Hodges and Jekyll , the W . M . proposed the toast of the Queen and the Craft . Ho then in enlogistio terms proposed the toast of H . R . H . the Prince of Wales M . W . G . M ., remarking how una .

nimon . 3 was tho feeling of satisfaction when the re-election of H . R . H . took place . There was a spirit of enthusiasm in Grand Lodge at seeing him re-elected as M . W . G . M . All hoped he would retain his position for many years . After Bro . Lawler had sung " God bless the Prince of Wales , " the toast of the Pro G . M ., the Deputy G . M . and the rest of the Grand Officers of the Grand Lodge of England was given .

Bro . Hodges sang " Maid of Athens . " Bro . Finch I . P . M . proposed the health of tho W . M . The gavel having been placed in his hands , the brethren would agree that he might congratulate Bro . Allen on two things ; first , his admirable working , and then his excellent presidency . He had shown that he possessed the attributes of a true Englishgentleman and Freemason . The W . M . in reply thanked Bro .

Finch and the brethren for tho enthusiastic manner in which they hadreceived tho toast ; he had hoped to have had the pleasure of working the first degree , but was prevented ; ho trusted he might have to do so on a future occasion . Bro . Lawler delighted the brethren with one of his popular songs . Tho Visitors were next brought under the notice of the brethren by the W . M . ; the members were always

pleased to see them in the Phcenix Lodgo . Ho ( the W . M . ) would call on Bro . Johnson W . M . Creaton Lodge to respond . After a song by Bro . Frank Ward , Bro . Johnson , in an excellent speech , responded for the Visitors ; he regretted the cause of there being no working that evening ; this was dne to circumstances over which thoy had no control . The Phcenix Lodge was known for its working , and ho with

the other Visitors hoped to seo the old feeling renewed , so that any littlo misconceptions that had arisen would eventually be set right ; he could speak with great sincerity of the excellent manner in which the W . M . displayed his hospitable proclivities , and he , on behalf of the numerous Visitors , thanked the Lodge for its hospitality . Bro . Fairbrother gave a very excellent recitation . The W . M .,

in proposing the toast of the P . M . ' s , regretted the absenco of Bro . Wilson ; he returned them his sincere thanks for the assistance they had rendered bim during his year of office . Bro . Vine said the P . M . ' s wero under obligations to the W . M . for the way in which he had proposed the toast . Bro . S . S . Phillips also replied . For the Officers Bro . Blyth S . W . responded . He hoped by the kindness of the

members eventually to become W . M . of this influential Lodge . As S . W ., he would endeavour to carry out every duty required of him . Bros . Lodge was then opened in tho third degree , and tho ceremony of rasing rehearsed , Bro . Gibbs being the candidate , both ceremonies were performed in a very careful manner .
