Warning From Honolulu.

WARNING FROM HONOLULU .

GRAND toeoretary Hempstead , o £ Arkansas , has made public a circular sent to the Masonic Fraternity by the Masonic Lodges at Honolulu , Hawaiian Islands . It says , in part : To Our Masonic Brethren : Greeting—In view of the fact that the recent annexation of the Hawaiian Islands by the United States has drawn the attention of the public , and more especially the people of the Pacific

coast , to tms group , and m view , also , of the faot that many people know but little about Hawaii except the information gleaned from sensational newspaper articles , it is reasonable to suppose that large numbers of the unemployed will desire to rush to what they believe to be a new country with a fine climate , a rich soil , scarcely civilised population and large tracts of land lying idle , and only awaiting ownership by possession of the first newcomer .

The influx of strangers has already begun , and while , no doubt , the experience of many disappointed seekers of employment will find expression in the newspapers of the coast and elsewhere at an early date—and perhaps deter some intending emigrants from making a leap in the dark—still the several Fraternal societies of Honolulu deem it a duty to sound a note of warning to their Brethren in the hope that much suffering and disappointment may ba averted .

To that end Hawaiian Lodge , No . 21 , A . E . and A . M ., has appointed a Committee to communicate with the Masonic Grand Lodges , respectfully petitioning them to advise the Brethren of their -Jurisdiction , through their local Lodges , of the present state of affairs at the Islands , and warn thorn that there is little or no opportunity to those who , being unemployed , are seeking a livelihood .

The letter states that there is but an occasional and uncertain demand for skilled workmen , and the supply of bookkeepers , stenographers , clerks , etc ., already far exceeds the demand , while all the professions—medical , dental , and the law—are more than overcrowded , and many are arriving in Honolulu only to meet with distress .

Bro . John Russell P . M . 77 P . P . S . G . D . of Kent has accepted the Office of Mayor of Gravesend for the second time , having previously filled the civic chair in 1876 .
