GOLDSMITH . Bro . GOLDSMITH was initiated in the Ohislehurat Lodge , No . 1531 , shortly after ita consecration in 1875 , and remained a subscribing member till 1881 , when ho joined the Gallery Lodge , No . 1928 . in this latter Lodge he served all the offices up to that of W . M . It was while holding this office , and throe days after the election of his successor , that he died , on the 15 th November 1 S 87 . Ho was a Life Governor of the Boys' School , and a Subscriber to all the Masonic Charities , and was , at all times , a hard worker in Masonry . He was for many years , and afc the time of his death , a member of tbe Heporting Staff of the Press Association , and in that capacity was well know to all Journalists in the United Kingdom . rW ^ HE annual meeting tho Sussex Provincial Grand JL Lodge was held afc the Royal Pavilion , Brighton , oa Saturday , tho 12 th insfc , Lieufc .-Oolonel Lord Algernon-Lennox , Provincial Graud Senior Warden , presided , Bro . T . Trollope P . P . G . S . W . acting as Deputy Provincial Grand

Master . Iho Wardens ' chairs were occupied by Bro . W . Marchanfc acting Prov . G . S . W ., aud Bro . J . Parncombe Prov . G . J . W . There was a very large muster of fche brethren of tho Province . Tho Lodge having beeu opened

in clue form , the Provincial Grand Secretary read the minutes of the last general meeting and of the special meeting held in December last . These being confirmed ,

the roll of tho Lodges was then called , and it was found that each Lodge was represented . A letter from Mrs . R . Crosskey was read in acknowledgment of the vote of condolence passed to her and her family on the death of

her husband , the late Brother R . Crosskey , Provincial Grand Treasurer . On the motion of Bro . W . Marchant , seconded by Bro . W . R . Wood , Bro . W . H . Hallett was

unanimously re-elected Provincial Grand Treasurer . Tho reports of the Board of Finance and the Provincial Charities' Committeo were read and adopted , Bro . 0 . H . Haine being elected Steward of the Charities' Committee

in the place of Bro . J . Eberall , whose resignation was accepted with regret , and with hearty thanks for his past services . The Secretary read statistics showing that tho members of the Provincial Lodares had increased from

1 , 179 to 1 , 200 during the past year . Ifc was decided by a unanimous vote to continue the publication of the Masonic Almanac . A letter was read from Mrs . Gerard Ford , who alluded in graceful terms to the continuous interest her late husband , the deeply lamented Deputy Provincial

Grand Master , had taken in the work of the Province . She also forwarded the following address , which the late Bro . F . Gerard Ford had commenced in anticipation of being present afc the annual meeting . The unfinished address was as follows : —

But it is in tho quiet uneventful years that real progress is irmrlo . It is in the stillness anrl darkness of tho earth that tho corn germinates and springs forth , not iu the glare

I believe that a steady advance haa taken placo in our beloved Craft in the Province , and that the love of it and the understanding of it , as a rule of life and conduct , is hig her to-day than it waa laat year . I draw this conclusion from many seemingly unimportant circumstances , the tone of our meet .

ings , the increase in our numbers , and many pleasant talks I have had with my brethren , when I have learned what their feelings are with regard to our brotherhood ; I have rejoiced to find their hearts in unison with miue .
