Sbaxby , of the Guildhall Hotel , whose catering elicited an expression of universal approbation from the brethren . The usual Loyal and Masonic toasts were honoured , several vocal selections being given in the intervals by the Masonic

trio , Bros . Plant , Moulding and Higgius . During the evening tho retiring master was decorated with a massive P . M . 's jewel , which had been subscribed for by individual members of the Lodge , in recognition of his exemplary discharge of the duties of his responsible position .

Strong Man Lodge of Instruction , Ho . 45 . —At the Old Itoduey ' s Head , 12 Old-street , Goswell-road , on Monday , the 11 th inst . Present—Bros . Pearcy W . M ., Jeapes S . W ., Robison J . W ., Tolmie Preceptor , Fenner Secretary , Wing S . D ., Hallam sen . J . D ., J . Millington I . G . ; also Bros . Hyland , Dybdahl , Hallam jun ., Gnyer . All preliminaries having been duly observed , the W . M . worked the

first section of the second Lecture , assisted by the brethren . Lodge being resumed , Bro . Hallam jun . proved his efficiency , and was entrusted . The W . M . then rehearsed the ceremony of passing . The W . M . worked the second and third sections , assisted by the brethren the fourth , assisted by Bro . Hallam sen . ; and the fifth , assisted bj the brethren . Bro . Jeapes was elected W . M . for the next meeting .

Prosperity Lodge of Instruction , No . 66 . — At the Hercules Tavern , Leadenhall-street , Tuesday , 15 th October . Present —Bros . Daniel W . M ., Moss S . W ., Roberts J . W ., Maidwell S . W .. Chapman J . D ., Hamilton I . G ., Hollands Sec , Sargood , Hill . The

ceremonies of the third and second degrees were rehearsed , Bros . Hill and Hamilton candidates . Bro . M 6 * ss was elected W . Master for the ensuing Tuesday . It was resolved unanimously that the annual supper be postponed till the third Tuesday in November , this date being more convenient to the brethren .

St . John ' s Lodge , No . 104 . —The regular monthly meeting of this Lodge was held at Ashton House , Stockport , on Monday , the 14 th inst . Present—Bros . Walter Schofield I . P . M . as W . Bell , performing his task in a very able manner . The Lodge was lowered , and Bro . Schofield resumed the gavel . The business of the evening being ended , the Lodge was closed in harmony , and the brethren , by request of the W . M .,

adjourned to refreshment . Bro . Schofield proposed the first toast , the Queen and the Craft , which was duly honoured , and the succeeding toast of H . R . H . the Princo of Wales and the rest of the Royal Family was most heartily drank . The next which was given was the R . W . the Prov . G . Master , Lord de Tabley , and the Prov . U . shipful Master , assumed control of the gavel ; he had to pro - pose a toast which it had never been his privilege to do before , and a privilege that might never occur again . We have here a brother who has come a long way to visit us , and as a brother and a representative of the Masonic press we are delighted to welcome him . The applause which greets this announcement shows me that

you greatly appreciate the importanco of this toast . The press is a mighty means of diffusing knowledge , and with the freedom of the press is associated tho liberty of a nation . He regretted that so few Masons read . There aro great advantages to be derived from the careful perusal of such a journal as the FREEMASON ' S CHRONICLE . His ( the speaker ' s ) acquaintance with that journal had extended over

a long period , and he always enjoyed and appreciated its contents very much . It was a journal he could commend to eaoh of those present most heartily . The worshipful and worthy brother continued his remarks by speaking of the FREEMASON ' CHRONICLE in the most complimentary and appreciative manner , and concluded by again urging the brethren to a more extended knowledge of the working

of tho Craft through reading Masonio literature , and by calling upon the brethren to drink most fraternally to the health of Bro . Davies . Bro . Davies , in response to the last toast , which had been most enthusiastically received , spoke at length . He congratulated the worship , ful brother on the highly appreciative sentiments which actuated him to propose the toast in such a kind and able manner , aud also the

brethren who had done honour to him personally by receiving his name in connection with the journal he had the honour to represent . A very pleasant social chat was enjoyed , after which the Tyler ' s toast brought a thoroughly edifying eveuing to a close . Besides those already mentioned , Bros . Bradley , Booth , Meadows , and others , contributed by their vocal efforts to amuse the company .

Lodge Of Joppa , No . 188 . —This Lodge met for the first time since the vacation on Thursday , the 10 th inst ., at the Albion Tavern , Aldersgate-street , City . Bros . Miller W . M .., M . Abra-, hams , M . Alexander , S . Hickman , A . G . Dodson , H . M . Levy aud 0 . Roberts . The Lodge was opened , and the minutes were confirmed . Tho new Bye Laws of the Lodge were discussed seriatim , and accepted . A distressed brother was relieved with the sum of 10 s 6 d . A letter was read from Bro . Hofleubach , an old member of the Lodge , who stated that he would be pleased

to render service to any brother who should be in Paris . A vote of thanks was proposed and carried , thanking him for his kindness . The Lodge was closed , and the brethren , seventy-two in number , sat down to banquet . Grace having been said , the W . M . proposed the usual Loyal and Masonic toasts . Bro . E . P . Albert P . G . P ., in responding to that of the Grand Officers , said he had so often

spoken in response to this toast , that he could do little but thank them . He was proud of occupying the office of P . G . S . of the Grand Lodge of Scotland , and of being Proxy Master of the Mauritius . Only yesterday he his heard of being elected honorary member of a Lodge in the island of Mauritius , under the constitution of the Grand Lodge of Ireland . The toast of the Benovolent Fuud was

responded to by Bro . Alexander P . M . and President . He waa pleased to hear from the brethren that they had now the sum of £ 1 , 400 . Since 1849 they had relieved brethren of the Lodge with various grants , ranging from £ 100 downwards . He hoped the fund would go on increasing , and none of those present ever be in a position to require its help . The W . M . then proposed the Visitors . He

was pleased to see so many brethren , not only from London , but also from the country . He alluded to the French Freemasons inviting the members of the various Constitutions to a meeting in Paris on 24 th October . He called on Bros . Hudson and I . P . Cohen to respond . Bro . I . P . Cohen replied in a neat speech , and was followed by Bro . Hudson , who was proud to hear that the Benevolent Fund

had reached the amount it had . Bro . L . Alexander P . M . then proposed the health of the W . M . He stated that he had been a member of the Lodge for twenty . seven years ; they had not yet had an oppor * tnnity of seeing the working of the W . M ., but he was sure they •vould be gratified when they did . The W . M . replied , aud then pro * posed the Past Masters . They had a number present , and he would call on Brother H . M . Levy to respond . This speaker was foU

lowed by Bro . S . Hickmau . The W . M . then proposed the toast of the Wardens , Bros . M . Spiegel aud flyman , who he hoped to see in the chair . Tho new Bye Laws of the Lodge were discussed seriatim , and accepted . A distressed brother was relieved with the sum of 10 s 6 d . A letter was read from Bro . Hofleubach , an old member of the Lodge , who stated that he would be pleased

to render service to any brother who should be in Paris . A vote of thanks was proposed and carried , thanking him for his kindness . The Lodge was closed , and the brethren , seventy-two in number , sat down to banquet . Grace having been said , the W . M . proposed the usual Loyal and Masonic toasts . Bro . E . P . Albert P . G . P ., in responding to that of the Grand Officers , said he had so often

spoken in response to this toast , that he could do little but thank them . He was proud of occupying the office of P . G . S . of the Grand Lodge of Scotland , and of being Proxy Master of the Mauritius . Only yesterday he his heard of being elected honorary member of a Lodge in the island of Mauritius , under the constitution of the Grand Lodge of Ireland . The toast of the Benovolent Fuud was

responded to by Bro . Alexander P . M . and President . He waa pleased to hear from the brethren that they had now the sum of £ 1 , 400 . Since 1849 they had relieved brethren of the Lodge with various grants , ranging from £ 100 downwards . He hoped the fund would go on increasing , and none of those present ever be in a position to require its help . The W . M . then proposed the Visitors . He

was pleased to see so many brethren , not only from London , but also from the country . He alluded to the French Freemasons inviting the members of the various Constitutions to a meeting in Paris on 24 th October . He called on Bros . Hudson and I . P . Cohen to respond . Bro . I . P . Cohen replied in a neat speech , and was followed by Bro . Hudson , who was proud to hear that the Benevolent Fund

had reached the amount it had . Bro . L . Alexander P . M . then proposed the health of the W . M . He stated that he had been a member of the Lodge for twenty . seven years ; they had not yet had an oppor * tnnity of seeing the working of the W . M ., but he was sure they •vould be gratified when they did . The W . M . replied , aud then pro * posed the Past Masters . They had a number present , and he would call on Brother H . M .
