nnHE annual election was held yesterday , at Free-I masons' Tavern , under the presidency of Bro . J . A . Farnfield P . A . G . D . C , Patron and Treasurer of the Institution .

As already announced twenty-two vacancies had been declared on the Male Fund and fourteen on the Widows , and these were increased , by deaths since the issue of

the papers , to twenty-seven and sixteen respectively , which numbers were subsequently admitted to the benefits of the Institution , the polling on behalf of the several candidates being as follows :

The results having been declared , Bro . Terry ( Secretary of the Institution ) , announced that the highest on the unsuccessful lists ( Bro . Eobson and Mrs . Barter ) , would each receive £ 7 from the John Hervey Benefaction Fund ; the next highest ( Bro . Dinnis and Mrs . Dayson ) £ 6 7 s each from the same source ; and the third highest ( Bro . Pickering and Mrs . Whitehouse ) £ 5 each from the

Emulation Lodge of Improvement , the different cheques being then and there handed to the recipients or their representatives amid the applause of the company , who fully appreciated the efforts thus made to lessen the bitterness of the disappointment the old people must feel at being so near the realisation of their desirns . and

yet deprived of them . It was announced that there were 698 spoilt votes on the Widows side , one proxy for 287 votes being unsigned , and one for 120 not filled in for any candidate . The spoilt Male Votes were below 500 in number . The proceedings terminated with hearty votes of

thanks to the Scrutineers , acknowledged by Bro . G . W . Verry and Bro . Fairchild ; votes in regard to the advertising and publishing of the proceedings of the day ; and a hearty compliment to the chairman , wha was thanked for his continued interest in the Institution and his desire to at all times work for its benefit .
