Bros . Lambert and W . Goodacre P . G . Sd . Br . Prov . G . Secretary replied to the toast of the Grand Officers , the former advocating the holding of Grand Lodge in the Provinces as well as in London , and instancing the Incorporated Law Society , of which he is a prominent member . The latter reverted to the initial effort made by the Architect Lodge eleven or twelve years ago in the establishment of the Hamer Institute . He added that in position this
Lodge now stood at the head of the Institute , which at the present time dispensed practically a thousand pounds per year in charitable objects . He was very commendatory with regard to the Lodge itself , and also made a passing reference to the maimer in which the members introduced initiates , whom he called the rulers of the future , and was loud in his admiration of the splendid ceremonial performed bv Bro . Pickford that afternoon .
Bros . Moss , Seth Wrigl « y P . P . G . D . ( K . L . ) , A . Cross P . P . G . D ., and H . Brayshaw P . P . G . D . ( West Yorks ) responded to the toast of tho Provincial Officers , the former saying that this was the first St . John's festival where the opportunity had been afforded him of responding to the toast . As yet his position had not exacted very much work from him beyond that of attending a few meetings , hut he hopefully looked forward to the time when he might become useful . The other speakers were unanimous in praise of the wnrk done by the Officers that day , and singled out Bro . Pickford for
especial mention . Bro . Moss afterwards proposed the health of the newly-installed W . M ., saying that in 1891 he proposed Bro . Birkett as a candidate for initiation . It seemed a short time to ' look back upon , bufc Bro . Birkett had proved himself a thorough , earnest , and modest man—the proper material Masons should be
made of . He had started well in his new position by introducing the name of a probable candidate , and he might say that there were others in prospect . As a Lodge , tho Architect was small in numbers , but its members were of the select class , and their object was that of trying to do the greatest good it was possible to do .
Bro .. Birkett responded , saying he appreciated the honour which they had conferred upon him that day , and acknowledged the zeal and energy already infused into the work by the Officers . He hoped he would be able to safeguard the tenets of the Lodge and of the Order . Masonry seemed to him in its umbers
to possesi a wonderful power for good ; it was powerful great n , and in the mighty space which ifc covered on the globe . In concluding a very excellent peroration upon Masonic principles he said—let us hope that its branches may still spread , and that it may continue to diffuse an influence over the earth .

ZION LODGE , No . 1798 . THE regular meeting was held at the Grand Hotel , Manchester , on Wednesday , 9 th inst ., Bro . Bernhard Steel W . M . After tho reading and confirmation of minutes , Bros . Nathan Robinson , Jacques Bernard Levey , and Hyman Barnet Morris were passed to the degree
of F . C , these ceremonies being followed by that of raising Bro . Louis Mistovski to t e sublime degree of M . M . Wifch the exception of the presentation and explanation of the working tools of the second degree , rendered by Bro . Mark Steel J . W ., the whole of the ceremonial was undertaken by the W . M ., and performed in a most satisfactory manner .
At fche festive board which followed , the usual Loyal and Masonic toasts were honoured , these being pleasantly relieved by songs , & c , given by Bro . Harry Norris , J . B . Levey , Wm . Townsend 645 , E . Roberts P . M . 1459 , and others . In reply to the health of the newly passed Brethren , proposed by Bro . Geo . Rideal P . M ., Bro . Robinson said that as he had advanced from the first to the second degree , Masonry had advanced proportionately in . his
estimation . All his life he had endeavoured to be a good and honourable man , but since entering the ancient and noble Order of Freemasons he had found the teachings to be the dearest and fche noblest to which human beings might aspire . He assured the Brethren that he would try his very best to be a useful member , and a living honour to their holy Order , and to the Zioh Lodge in particular . He thanked the Brethren for their kindness to him , and wished them health , wealth , and the best of joys to come .
Bro . Levey thanked the proposer for his expressions of kindness , and the Brethreu for their hearty acceptance of the toast , while Brother Morris , after admitting how much he had been impressed by the ceremonial through which he had passed , also expressed his thanks , and concluded a neat speech by promising that he would try to be a good Mason , and , to the best of his ability , an honour to the Lodge which he had joined . . He wished them every prosperity in life , and hoped he should be with them for many years to come .

EPPING LODGE , No . 2077 . THE Worshipful Master Bro . John Sutton Abbott jun . presided at the regular meeting of this Lodge , held at the Royal Forest Hotel , Chingford , on Saturday , 5 th inst ., the occasion being the first gathering since his installation into the chair of the Lodge . He was supported by Bros . A . G . Shenstbne P . P . G . D . C Treas . acting S . W ., G . T . Clough J . W ., E . J . Moore P . P . A . G . S . Sec , E . Sutton Abbott P . M . ( father of the Lodge ) acting S . D ., E . R . Cleaton acting J . D ., Stanley P . Abbott I . G ., Newman Willis D . C , R . W . Goddard P . M . Tyler , W . H . Jones P . M ., A . Miller P . M ., J . D . Jones , C . A . Chibnall , and others .
Visitors : Bros . John Lusty P . M . 1687 , B . Kempton P . M . 1728 , Charles Legg 2331 , and J . Wynman . The Lodge was opened by the Worshipful Master at 3 . 30 , and the minutes of the last meeting were confirmed . Brother 0 . A . Chibnall , who was initiated at the previous meeting , was
presented to the W . M . for some further mark of his favour . Bro . Chibnall having answered the usual questions in a very satisfactory manner was entrusted , and , the Lodge being opened in the second degree , indue course he was passed as a Fellow Craft . We heartily congratulate the Worshipful Master on his excellent working , and the Officers on the able assistance they rendered .
The W . M . having resumed the Lodge to the first degree , it was proposed , seconded and unanimously agreed to , that an extra sum of six guineas be added to his list as Steward for the Charities , after which the Lodge was closed and the Brethren adjourned to the magnificent banqueting room , where an excellent dinner was served under the personal superintendence of the Manager Bro . Laurence Havden .
The cloth removed , the W . M . gave the usual Loyal and Masonic toasts . With that of the Grand Officers present and past he coupled the names of Bro . E . T . Moore P . P . A . G . S . Secretary of the Lodge , and Bro . A . G . Shenstone P . P . G . D . C . its Treasurer . Bro . Shenstone , in response , said he esteemed it a great honour to reply
to the toast . He was proud to wear the distinguished collar , which he felt had been gained by hard work , and not by sitting down . The Grand Officers did everything in their power for the welfare of Masonry , and were always ready to give assistance when it was required . Bro . Moore and Bro . Abbott ( father of the Lodge ) also responded .
Bro . Miller P . M ., in proposing the health of the W . M ., eulogised his good qualities as a Mason . The way in which he had rendered the ceremony was a great credit to him , and to the Lodge . The toast was received with considerable enthusiasm , as was Brother J . Sutton Abbott jun . W . M ., when he rose to reply . He said he should but briefly acknowledge the kind words spoken of him . The Brethren , could rest assured that his heart was with tbe Epping Lodge , and he would do everything in his power to give the members of it satisfaction .
In submitting the toast of the Visitors , the W . M . enumerated those who had done the Lodge the honour of attending it . The members desired them to have a very hearty welcome . Bro . Legg had favoured them before , and he hoped to see him and the other Visitors on several occasions in the future . Bro . Lusty , in response , said it was the first time he had visited the Lodge . He was sorry he could nofc attend on the installation night , but hoped to come again . He felt they had had a Masonic treat , and he complimented the Worshipful Master on the excellent manner in which he had fulfilled the duties that night . Other visitors also replied .
An interesting diversion now took place : the Charity Box was handed round , and the contents put up for competition , with the result that a substantial sum was added to the Benevolent Fund . The father of the Lodge acted the part of salesman , and explained how the funds benefited by the sale . Finally , in a most humorous manner he informed Bro . Cleaton that he was the fortunate possessor of the contents of the box .
Bro . Cleaton had much pleasure in returning the box with its contents , and was glad to add a little extra to it ; he was sure it could not be in better hands than in their father's , as he knew best how to dispose of it . The W . M . gave the toast of the Past Masters , the pioneers of the Lodge . The W . M . made special mention of Past Masters W . H . Jones , A . Miller , A . G . Shenstone , and others .
Bro . A . Miller P . M . thanked the W . M . for his very kind words , and observed that the Lodge was proud of having him as their W . M . He congratulated him on his perfect working that evening , and felt there was little doubt he would have a brilliant term of office . Should he ever require assistance the Past Masters would render it with all their ability .
Bro . Jones Past Master said he was also pleased with the working of the W . M . ; from what he had seen that night he felt the W . M . would not require any assistance , but if he did he should always be pleased to render all that was wanted . He would be pleased to undertake anything for the welfare of the Lodge . He was delighted to see several friends present .
The toast of the Treasurer , Secretary , and Officers was next given by the W . M ., who spoke of the Treasurer Bro . A . G . Shenstone as enjoying the respect and esteem of every rt ember of the Lodge . Bro . E . J . Moore P . M . their Secretary was also a tried and trusted member ; one . who had Freemasonry at heart . The W . M . also referred to the other Officers Bro . Shenstone responded , expressing how pleased he was at seeing tho improved position of the Lodge .
Bro . Moore Sec . said he would continue to do his utmost to promote the interest of the Lodge , and the happiness of the Brethren . Bro . Clough J . W . said he did not think he was proficient in his working , but that was the fault of not having an Instruction Lodge . He was sure if they had the support of the W . M . tbey would soon be able to form one again . Bro . Cleaton said there had been one , at Wandsworth ; now that the Lodge was stronger he was sure it would be no trouble to revive it .
Bro . Shenstone was also sure they could form a Lodge of Instruction , especially now that they had secured the support of the W . M . Bro . Abbott sen . P . M . had very much pleasure to inform the W . M . and Brethren that a Lodge of Instruction had been formed , at the George Hotel , Woodford , and would commence work on Friday , 18 th inst ., at 8 o'clock He had been chosen to act as the Preceptor . Bro . Wynman responded to the toast of the Masonic Press .
Other toasts followed , the Tyler concluding a most pleasant evening . A compliment is due to the Brethren who added to the pleasure of the evening with some excellent singing , amongst those deserving mention in this respect being Bros . Newman Willis , J . D . Jones , Charles Legg , E . R . Cleaton . The W . M . and his father sang an excellent duet . Bro . G . T . Clough presided at the piano . Bro . Newman Willis has a beautiful voice , and we hope ^ to often hear him in the future .
