S . D ., Burdon I . G ., Thornton Secretary , J . De Casseres P . M . Preceptor , Levy , Durrell . The W . M . rehearsed the ceremony of Initiation , Bro . Levy acting as candidate . Bro . Levy then answered the questions leading to the second degree . The Brethren assisted Bro . Boyce P . M . to work the first and second sections of the lecture .

G ., Oliver P . M ., C . Wetton P . M ., Crabtree , Collins , Holland , Cecil Merrie , Wynman , and others .

The Lodge was opened in the three degrees , when , by desire of the W . M ., Bro . Sinclair took the chair , and resumed to the second degree . Brother Martyn offered himself as a candidate for raising , and that ceremony was rehearsed , in a manner which reflected great credit on Bro . Sinclair . The W . M . resumed his chair , and rehearsed an initiation , with Brother Crabtree acting as candidate , and that Brother afterwards answered the questions leading to the second degree .

This being the first occasion on which Bro . Holmes had fulfilled the duties of the chair in a Lodge of Instruction Bro . Darch Preceptor proposed that a hearty vote of thanks be accorded him , the same to be entered on the minutes , as a record of his faultless working on the occasion . This was agreed to , and the compliment was duly acknowledged by Bro . Holmes .

Bros . E . Martin , Meridian Lodge , No . 893 ; B . T . Crabtree , Royal Jubilee Lodge ; and T . Holmes and W . Oliver , Pimlico Lodge , were elected members , and suitably acknowledged their election . Bro . Almayo was elected W . M . for the 2 nd March , next Wednesday being Preceptor ' s day , when- Bro . A . Darch P . M . will rehearse the three degrees , and will doubtless attract a large attendance .

Bro . Darch made touching reference to the funeral of the late Bro . Charles Wise P . M . Assistant Preceptor of the Lodge , which had taken place the previous Monday , a wreath being sent by the members of the Lodge in memory of their departed friend .

CAMALODUNUM LODGE , No . 660 . ON Tuesday , 15 th inst ., the annual gathering was held at the Masonic Hall , Malton , when Bro . W . G . Thurley Rose was installed Worshipful Master for the ensuing year , by Bro . the Rt . Hon . Lord Bolton P . G . W . of England Deputy Provincial Grand Master of North and East Yorkshire .

PHILANTHROPY LODGE , No . 940 . THE annual meeting was held on the 17 th inst ., at the Freemasons' Hall , Stockton , when Bro . Charles T . Johnson , Borough Surveyor of Thornaby , who had been elected for the second year , was installed as W . M . There was a large muster of Provincial Brethren from Durham and the surrounding Provinces , together with the Brethren of the Stockton Lodges . Johnson

Bro . , in his past year of office , has proved himself a very popular W . M ., and has won the esteem and appreciation of all the members of the Lodge for his urbanity . He initiated rather unique experience for a Stockton Lodge , in that for his Office-Bearers for the ensuing year he only appointed Past Masters . o o o ROYAL ALFRED LODGE , No . 1028 . THE anniversary was held on Tuesday , 8 th inst ., at Alfreton , and was attended by a large number of Brethren from various parts of the

Provincial.

Province . One part of the Town Hall had been specially fitted up as a Lodge room , owing to the large attendance which was expected . The other part of the room was curtained off as a banqueting hall . Bro . Wm . Peel was impressively installed Worshipful Master by Bro . Henry Hole the retiring Master . The Brethren afterwards partook of the annual banqutt , which had been prepared by Bro . Alfred Schofield , of the George Hotel .

ON Monday , 7 th inst ., the members held their annual installation meeting , in the Masonic Hall , Church-street , Lancaster , and there was a fair attendance of members . Bro . J . W . Wearing P . Pr . G . D . W . M . performed the installation ceremony , and inducted Bro . C . E . Barrow into the chair .

ARCHITECT LODGE , No . 1375 . THE regular meeting was held at the Masonic Hall , Chorlton-cum-Hardy , on Friday , 4 th inst ., Bro . T . A . Holland W . M . The principal business was that of balloting for Bro . Frumjee Dorabjea Panday , who was desirouB of becoming a re-joining member . After the ballot , which was successful , the election of Officers took place , Bro . J . R . E . Birkett J . W . being unanimously chosen as W . M .-elect , and Bro . A . Redfearn S . W . as Treasurer .

At the festive board which followed , the notable feature was a very interesting account from the W . M . of a journey which was practically round the world , and from which he had recently returned . The usual toasts were honoured .

o o o SKELMERSDALE LODGE , No . 1380 . ON Monday , 14 th inst ., the annual meeting took place , Bro . Francis B . Hopkins being installed by the retiring W . M . Bro . Arthur J . Lloyd , in a most impressive and efficient manner .

URMSTON LODGE , No . 1730 . i pHE regular meeting was held at the Victoria Hotel , Urmston , on Monday , I 14 th inst ., Bro . James Ormrod Worshipful Master . After the reading and confirmation of minutes , and the election of three members on the Benevolent Committee , Bros . J . Smith , R . Appledore , and G . H . Barker were invested as Stewards . A successlul ballot was then taken

for Mr . Reuben Cochrane , Commerial Traveller , Urmston , who was afterwards initiated into ancient Freemasonry by the W \ M ., assisted by Bro . Hedley Jones J . W ., who delivered the charge . Bro . Francis Taylor was passed to the degree of F . C . by Bro . Walter Bowers P . M ., assisted by the W . M ., who presented and explained the working tools . .

As announced by notice of motion , Bro . John Slyman , J . P ., P . M . P . P . S . G . D . proposed " that a sum of five guineas be voted from the Lodge funds to the Lathom Address and Memorial Fund , " which was carried . ^ At the festive board , Loyal and Masonic toasis were pleasantly varied by songs , recitations , < % p ., the contributaries being Bros . J . H . Marsh P . M . P . G . S ., Walter Bowers P . M ., J . Goodwin , F . Ridsdale Bowley P . M . 1213 , E . P . Woodhouse J . D . 1387 , and others .

The health of the newly-initiated Brother , proposed by the W . M ., was responded to by Bro . Cochrane , who said that he had not seen sufficient of the working of the Lodge to say very much about it , but he hoped he would be able by his conduct to uphold the ancient traditions , or so much of them as had been expounded to him so far . Bro . Jones proposed the health of the newly-passed Brother , to which Bro . Taylor replied .

C . of Bro . Louis

DE TATTON LODGE , No . 2144 . THE regular meeting was held at the Town Hall , Altrincham , on Wednesday , 9 th inst ., Bro . Charles Kenworthy W . M . The Lodge was opened in due form by the W . M ., and after confirmation of the minutes of the previous regular meeting , and the transaction of other business , was closed in peace and harmony at 6 ' 45 p . m .

The labours of the evening being ended , the W . M ., Officers , and a large number of Brethren , including Visitors , accompanied by several of their lady friends , enjoyed an excellent dinner , the remainder of the evening being devoted to vocal and instrumental music . Mrs . Newman ( Halle ' s Concerts ) sang two songs , " The Swallows " and " Needles and Pins , " which were highly applauded . She was accompanied by Bro . H . Stevens , Mus . Bac , of the Philharmonic Society . Bro . Geo . Birch

acquitted himself well on the pianoforte in a well-chosen selection . Brother Whiteside , the well-known tenor , sang with his usual good taste " The Heavenly Song " and " Queen of the Earth , " in the former of which Bro . Geo . Sowerbuts ( Halle ' s Concerts ) played the violin obligato , following which Brother Sowerbuts gave an excellent selection on the violin , accompanied by Bro . Geo . Birch on the piano , which was rendered in a masterly style . Bro . A . Jacobson showed himself in excellent form in singing his favourite song ,

The labours of the evening being ended , the W . M ., Officers , and a large number of Brethren , including Visitors , accompanied by several of their lady friends , enjoyed an excellent dinner , the remainder of the evening being devoted to vocal and instrumental music . Mrs . Newman ( Halle ' s Concerts ) sang two songs , " The Swallows " and " Needles and Pins , " which were highly applauded . She was accompanied by Bro . H . Stevens , Mus . Bac , of the Philharmonic Society . Bro . Geo . Birch

acquitted himself well on the pianoforte in a well-chosen selection . Brother Whiteside , the well-known tenor , sang with his usual good taste " The Heavenly Song " and " Queen of the Earth , " in the former of which Bro . Geo . Sowerbuts ( Halle ' s Concerts ) played the violin obligato , following which Brother Sowerbuts gave an excellent selection on the violin , accompanied by Bro . Geo . Birch on the piano , which was rendered in a masterly style . Bro . A . Jacobson showed himself in excellent form in singing his favourite song ,
