Lodge being duly opened with solemn prayer and the minutes of the last meeting confirmed , the W . M . in a clear and impressive manner raised Bro . F . Wilmott to the degree of Master Mason , and invested him as such . He also passed Bro . W . M . Ball to the second degree . Bro . Edwin Candy , of the Bangalore Lodge , was unanimously elected a joining member .

The Bye-laws of the Lodge having been read , the election of the administrative for the ensuing year was proceeded with , the proclamation of the ballot being unanimous in favour of Bro . H . After the Loyal toasts , Bro . J . H . Rutherglen I . P . M ., in proposing the health of the W . M ., stated how proud . he had been to witness the able manner in which the W . the chair . This being the last time he would have to propose this toast he felt he must say that the W . M . had presided at the close—as ho had at the start—with skill , ability and consideration . He had been informed by the W . M . he has had two previous experiences of leaving the Master's chair , but he never left it with greater regret than he should this time . , Ho thanked

the Brethren for the resolution to present their W . M . with a jewel , as it not only served to demonstrate that ho had succeeded in his endeavours to discharge his duties , but at the same time showed he had retained their affections . He was bound to say it was a proud decoration , and being worn , as was the rule , at every Masonic meeting , proved to the Brotherhood the estimation in which the owner was held .

¦ The W . M ., in responding , thanked the Brethren for the kind manner in which they had received the toast of his health . It was not new , for it had been the same the whole period of his Mastership . They had not only been loyal to him , but he had experienced a large amount of affection , which only enhanced the regret with which he should leave the chair . He had ever

endeavoured to strengthen the bonds of fraternity and equality , as he did not believe that any association built on the one man principle ever prospered . They were all members , and he was pleased to say that it was each one ' s pleasure to make each other happy , from Master to Initiate , All joined in the grand design of being happy , and communicating happiness to others .

The W . M . next proposed the health of Bro . R . H . Nicholls S . W . Masterelect , eulogising him , not only as to his Masonic knowledge , but also as to his generous nature . He trusted that ho would have a very prosperous year of office . Bro . Nicholls replied in a few conscise and well selected remarks . The next toast was that of the Visitors ; 'in reply to which Bro . Rev . J . F . Downes P . P . G . C . Herts stated it gave him peculiar pleasure to respond , inasmuch as for many years he had been associated with the W . M . in the

Province of which he was a Past Oilicer , and also that the Treasurer was the W . M . of his mot . her Lodge . He was bound to admit , as a Poor Law Officer , that he always apprehended that the Lodge would have the taint of " shop , " which was the one thing to be deplored , but he had learnt to know , like many more , that he had reckoned without his host . What he had seen that evening had dispelled any such notion . The working and musical portion of the ceremony were must impressive , and the hospitality was grand , so far so that even if the Rontgen Rays were employed it would be impossible to discover a skeleton at tho feast . Bro . Linnell also suitably replied .

Bro . Rutherglen I . P . M ., Dr . Greigg P . M . Treasurer , and Roberts Sec , responded , as also did the other Officers , to the toast proposed in their honour . A collection on behalf of the Benevolent and Orphan Fund of the Poor Law Officers' Association was made , and produced £ 2 , which , with the collection at the last Lodge meeting , made a total of £ 5 . A most satisfactory and enjoyable meeting was closed with the Tyler ' s toast .
