would bring with it a reaction , and what , then , would be their posi'ion ? He could not shut his eyes to the responsibilities the Craft had imposed on him ; as he was c » oing on in life he faced thoso increased responsibilities with failing powers . The boys of the present would be the men of the future generation ; they were objects of their sympathy , and to his dying dav he should continue to ndvo .

ca ' e tho principles of Masonic charity . He had ahnmble notion that , while by God ' s providence they possessed means for their own enjoyment , their hearts and sympathies should be extended towards those who were not so fortunate as themselves . It was here mentioned by the W . M . that one of the members had made an offer of £ 5 if nineteen others would do the same , to be devoted to his list ;

on a paper going round several brethren gave in their names for a similar amount , nnd it is believed that tho list will be fully made np at the next meeting of the Lodsre . The toast of the Initiates having been duly honoured , and severally responded to , the W . M . proposed the Visitors , nnd remarked that , from the time of the foundation of The Great City Lodgp , they had always a goodly nnmber of visitors

they gave them a hearty welcome , and hoped they would come again , Somo of the visitors returned thanks , expressing their pleasnro at the excellent working of the Lodge , and the bountiful hospitality which hnd been extended towards them . The W . M . next gave the Past Masters , extolled their good qualities , and their readiness at all times to render any services required of them . After a few words

from Bro . Kibble I . P . M ., Bro . N . B . Headon P . M . Treasurer said , he nsnally felt in a predicament when it came to his turn to speak , as the previous speakers had exhausted the snbject . He was sorry that Bro . Stevens was not with them that nhyht in his usual position , especially as a severe accident had kept him indoors for a month , and was likely to keep him afc home for some weeks longer . The

Past Masters had endeavoured to do their duty , and he believed they had succeeded . It was most gratifying to them to Find so many members qualified to undertake any duties that might be cast upon them . The Great City Lodge had taken to heart the question whether a new Gr nd Treasurer should be elected year by year . Bro . Brooks Marshall had been nominated for that office ; he was a good Mason , and he ( Bro . Headon ) hoped they would support his

nomination when the time for action arrived . Bros . Blackie and Hamer also returned thanks . The health of the Secretary was proposed by the W . M ., to this due justice was done , and Bro . Blackie responded in suitable terms . Some other toasts were given , and the evening was spent most harmoniously . Bro . Cozens presided at the pianoforte , and sang some choice songs . Bro . Wasley , one of the initiates , also contributed to the pleasures of the evening .
