RRPORTS OF MEETINGS .

We shall be pleased to receive particulars of Masonic meetings for insertion in our columns , and where desired will endeavour to send a representative , to report Lodge or other proceedings .

CRAFT : METROPOLITAN . — : o : — CONFIDENCE LODGE , No . 193 . THE regular meeting of this Lodge was held on Monday , at Anderton ' s Hotol , Fleet Street , E . G ., under the presidency ol Bro . George Spico W . M ., who was supported by Bro ' . J . W . Simeons S . W ., E . Pennock I . P . M . acting J . W ., E . J . Davey P . M . See ., Past Masters Joseph Hart , E . Kington , F . S . Plowright , S . Smithers , Cubitt , G . P . Nightingale ; S . W . Fells S . D ., Metcalfe Bailey J . D ., W . Haughton acting I . G ., E . H . Lough Ore ., L . G .

The minutes of the last meeting having been read and confirmed Bros . T . J . Goodchild , E . C . H . Tiffin , and J . Sweeney , who had been initiated at the previous meeting , presented themselves as candidates for preferment , and answered the questions in excellent manner . They wero entrusted and , the Lodge being opened in the second degree , they were duly passed to the rank of Fellow Craft .

The W . M . resumed the Lodge to the first degree , and Messrs . George Kimber and Walter Osborn were presented as candidates , the ballot having been proved to bc unanimous in thoir favour . In due course they had tho privilege of participating in the mysteries of Ancient Freemasonry .

Bro . John Cecil Ward , of the Broxbourne Lodge , No . 2353 was balloted for and accepted as a joining member . A grant of £ 10 10 s was proposed by Bro . F . S . Plowright for the widow of a late member , and Bro . Kington P . M . proposed that the sum of five guineas be voted to a member of the Lodge . Both theso propoutions wore unanimouslv carried .

Some discussion took place concerning the Ladies' night , of which further particulars will appear in a later issue . The working being ended the Lodge was closed in due form , and tho Brethren retired to partake of an excellent repast . Bro . Collings as usual looked after the comfort of the guests . The customary Loyal and Masonic toasts were proposed and honoured . Bros . Kimber and Osborn wore cordially received in connection with the toast of the initiates , to which both made suitable response .

During the evening several Brethren contributed songs , thus adding to the enjoyment of another meeting of this successful and happy Lodge .

CITY OF LONDON LODGE , No . 901 . AN emergency meeting of this woll known Lodge took place on Monday , at the Guildhall Tavern , Gresham Street , E . G ., under the presidency of the popular Worshipful Master , Bro . Joseph Hatton , wbo received the support of the following : Bros . R . W . Dobin I . P . M ., W . H . Haylock S . W ., E . Beadle J . W ., H . Narbord P . M . Treas ., W . R . Haylock P . M . Sec , George

The Visitors included Bros . W . Pitman 1457 , A . E . Purkis W . M . 1314 , J Wynman , and others . The preliminaries of opening having been obversed , tho W . M . proceeded to advance the Lodge , when Bros . F . Hall , W . Bridgen , and G . Boiland were examined as Follow Crafts , entrusted , and regularly raised to the sublime degree of Master Mason .

The W . M . resumed the Lod . -je to the fi .-st degree . There wore four candidates on the agenda for passing , but two of tho Brethren were unavoidably prevented from being present at the appointed timo , and the W . M . therefore proceeded to examine Bros . W . H . White and A . E . Britton , who , having answered the questions to the satisfaction of tho Brethren , wore entrusted . The Lodge was opened in the second degree and the Brethren were passed as Follow Crafts .

The W . M . again resumed tho Lodgo to tho first degree , and Bros . W . Quainton and G . Bailey were examined ; having answered the usual questions without the slightest hesitation they were entrusted and in duo course passed to the second degree . The Worshipful Master was now further put on his mettleand gavo

, additional evidence of his ability as a worker . He again resumed the Lodge to tlie first degree , and the ballot having beon passed for Messrs . Cook Thomas Wright , and H . G . Hancock , proving unanimous in their favour , and thoy being present , they were most impressively initiated into the mysteries of ane ' ent Freemasonry .

We were highly pleased with tho perfect and impressive manner in which the three ceremonies were rendered , and we congratulate the Brethren on having so excellent a ruler as Bro . Joseph Hatton . The case of a distressed Brother was brought forward and ordered to be nvestigated , and after some other business had been disposed of thc Lodgo was closed .

UPTON LODGE , No . 1227 . UPON receiving an invitation to visit this popular Lodge we at once availed ourselves of such a brilliant opportunity of spending a happy evening , for at no Lodge do we receive a moro hearty and thoroughly Masomc reception than from the Officers , Past Masters and Brethren of No . 1227 . The work in the Lod ge is always excellentl y and efficiently carried ' out , from the presiding Officer to his lowest subordinate- and at the banquet table hospitality is the strong point . The regular meeting was held on Thursday , Oth inst ., at the Great Eastern Hotel , Liverpool Street , when Bro . Henry James Rowberry W . M ,

This was the first meeting held since the installation of our worthy Brother in September , and he speedily opened his Lodge and had the minutes of the previous meeting read and confirmed .

Bros . C . H . Phillips , J . Mills , A . Giles , and F . A . Laurie , being candidates to be passed to tho second degree were examined , entrusted and retired . The Lodge was opened in tho 2 nd degree , aud thoso Brethren wero duly passed as Fellow Crafts . Bro . VV . E . Pound was a candidate to ho raised to tho third degree , and having answered the usual questions the Lodge was opened up and ho was very impressively raised as a Master Mason .

The Lodge was r -sumod to tlie first degree . Mr . J . L . Sinclair , a candidate for initiation , was unabl i to ho present on this occasion—but the ballot was taken in his absence , and proved unanimous in his favour . Bros . Noble and J . Baker , his proposer and seconder , spoke in very high terms of tho candidate , assuring the Brethren that it was only from the fact that he was on his way from abroad , the ship having been delayed , or he would have been present .

A letter of sympathy was unanimously resolved should be sent to Bro . Treasurer , who unfortunately was prevented from attending the Lodge through illness . On the proposition hy Bro . Jeffreys P . M . the sum of £ 10 10 s was voted from the Benevolent Fund to the " Daily Telegraph " Fund for the benefit of tho Widows and Orphans of our soldiers engaged in South Africa , and this grant was afterwards supplemented by the contents of the "Gavel , " which amounted to £ 2 ;* is 6 d .

A proposition of a candidate for initiation at tho next meeting was made by Bro . Hyde P . M ., and the Lodge having been regularly closed the Brethren retired to the banquet room , where , after the inner man had been refreshed , the usual Loyal and Masonio toasts were given and received with hearty enthusiasm , that of the Queen and the Craft being , naturally at the present time , especially well received .

The I . P . M . proposed in felicitous aud kindly terms the toast of the W . M ., stating that they had a first class Master in Bro . Rowberry , who would uphold the credit of tho Upton Lodge , which would not suffer while the ruling was in such able hands . The W . M . replied , thanking the Brethren for the unanimous and hearty

manner in which they had received the kind and flattering terms used by the I . P . M . in proposing the toast . Brevity being the soul of wit he should not err on the score of long speeches ; over since he had joined the Lodge his desire had always been , that whatsoever his hand found to do he did it with his utmost ability .

The Visitors' toast was responded to by Bros . Smith , Miles and Page P . M . s and Bros . Papworth and Thompson . The City Choir , and Bros . Martin aud Gunn contributed to the harmony during the evening . The Organist of the Lodge presided at the piano .

DUKE OF FIFE LODGE , No . 2345 . fin HIS Lodge has long since been so firmly established and so flourishing JL that it becomes a certainty of seeing excellent working of the beautiful ceremonies for which the Mystic Order is noted whenever one of its meetings takes place . On Wednesday evening there was no exception to this rule , for by the courtesy of the W . M . Bro . Andrew Robertson , tlie first and second

degrees were worked by B ** o . W . VV . Westley P . M . D . C , in a finished , careful manner , indeed that expert Craftsman excelled himself by his earnestness in delivering the full explanation of the working tools in the second degree , a treat which the Lodgo has not enjoyed for some years , the last Master who undertook that duty boing Bro . Woods . It was fortunate also that all the Officers were present and " lit . "

Bros . Boden and Jones wero passed to tho second degree and Mr . L ^ man initiated . After all Masonic business had been transacted and the Lodge closed the Brethren dined together under the presidency of the W . M ., who afterwards gave the usual Loyal , Patriotic , and Masonic toasts , and they were duly honoured .

Bro . Westley P . M ., in proposing the health of the Master , pointed out that they had the right man in the right place , a man who was heart and soul a Mason , one who would be popular wherever the best men assembled . Bro . Robertson W . M ., in reply , said no one had more love for the beauties of Masonry than himself ; he loved the beautiful ritual , and would always do his best to carry out the lessons inculcated in the Lodge . The Initiate suitably responded to the toast of his health .

The W . M . heartily welcomed the Visitors on behalf of the Lodge , and Bro . T . W . Nesbitt P . D . P . G . M . Isle of Man made a stirring speech in reply . He gave good advice to those now commencing their Masonic career , as one with twenty-five years experience of the Order could well do . The Officers and Tyler ' s toast closed a capital meeting , the harmony ol which had been increased by the efforts of the following musical Brethren : — Bros . G . F . Winny S . M . the sum of £ 10 10 s was voted from the Benevolent Fund to the " Daily Telegraph " Fund for the benefit of tho Widows and Orphans of our soldiers engaged in South Africa , and this grant was afterwards supplemented by the contents of the "Gavel , " which amounted to £ 2 ;* is 6 d .

A proposition of a candidate for initiation at tho next meeting was made by Bro . Hyde P . M ., and the Lodge having been regularly closed the Brethren retired to the banquet room , where , after the inner man had been refreshed , the usual Loyal and Masonio toasts were given and received with hearty enthusiasm , that of the Queen and the Craft being , naturally at the present time , especially well received .

The I . P . M . proposed in felicitous aud kindly terms the toast of the W . M ., stating that they had a first class Master in Bro . Rowberry , who would uphold the credit of tho Upton Lodge , which would not suffer while the ruling was in such able hands . The W . M . replied , thanking the Brethren for the unanimous and hearty

manner in which they had received the kind and flattering terms used by the I . P . M . in proposing the toast . Brevity being the soul of wit he should not err on the score of long speeches ; over since he had joined the Lodge his desire had always been , that whatsoever his hand found to do he did it with his utmost ability .

The Visitors' toast was responded to by Bros . Smith , Miles and Page P . M . s and Bros . Papworth and Thompson . The City Choir , and Bros . Martin aud Gunn contributed to the harmony during the evening . The Organist of the Lodge presided at the piano .

DUKE OF FIFE LODGE , No . 2345 . fin HIS Lodge has long since been so firmly established and so flourishing JL that it becomes a certainty of seeing excellent working of the beautiful ceremonies for which the Mystic Order is noted whenever one of its meetings takes place . On Wednesday evening there was no exception to this rule , for by the courtesy of the W . M . Bro . Andrew Robertson , tlie first and second

degrees were worked by B ** o . W . VV . Westley P . M . D . C , in a finished , careful manner , indeed that expert Craftsman excelled himself by his earnestness in delivering the full explanation of the working tools in the second degree , a treat which the Lodgo has not enjoyed for some years , the last Master who undertook that duty boing Bro . Woods . It was fortunate also that all the Officers were present and " lit . "

Bros . Boden and Jones wero passed to tho second degree and Mr . L ^ man initiated . After all Masonic business had been transacted and the Lodge closed the Brethren dined together under the presidency of the W . M ., who afterwards gave the usual Loyal , Patriotic , and Masonic toasts , and they were duly honoured .

Bro . Westley P . M ., in proposing the health of the Master , pointed out that they had the right man in the right place , a man who was heart and soul a Mason , one who would be popular wherever the best men assembled . Bro . Robertson W . M ., in reply , said no one had more love for the beauties of Masonry than himself ; he loved the beautiful ritual , and would always do his best to carry out the lessons inculcated in the Lodge . The Initiate suitably responded to the toast of his health .

The W . M . heartily welcomed the Visitors on behalf of the Lodge , and Bro . T . W . Nesbitt P . D . P . G . M . Isle of Man made a stirring speech in reply . He gave good advice to those now commencing their Masonic career , as one with twenty-five years experience of the Order could well do . The Officers and Tyler ' s toast closed a capital meeting , the harmony ol which had been increased by the efforts of the following musical Brethren : — Bros . G . F . Winny S . W ., Boden , Merrett , Machin , and E . 0 . Goff ,
