Bro . A . C . Smith W . M . 1356 , and H . Oppherheimer 1540 were elected members , and Bro . Briggs chosen W . M . for to-day ( Saturday ) . Bro . H . Hill , the Preceptor , announced that the ceremony of raising would be rehearsed with Choir and Organ accompaniment on Saturday , 25 th inst ., at 7 . 45 sharp , and that several professionals would attend , therefore tho Brethren may expect an exceptional Masonic treat .

Tho large Masonic Hall of the establishment has been secured for tho evening , and we strongly advise Brethren to attend , as such work is rarely witnessed in our Lodges of Instruction . THERE was an intores'in .- ceremony at tho mooting on Thursday , 2 nd inst ., in the Masonic HaU , Bournemouth , the special function consisting of the presentation of Bibles to tho bids wbo actcl as Lewises in the Masonio ceremonies of laying the first stones of the new Boscombe Hospital aud the

St . Andrew ' s Church , Bournemouth , this year . The five Lewises on those occasions were F . P . Brazier , sou of Bro . J . J . Brazier P . M . of Lodge Horsa , No . 2208 ; C . O . Hodges , son of Bro . R . Hodges P . M . of Lodge Hengist , No . 195 ; E . Humphry , son of Bro . W . Humphry P . M . of Lodge Hengist ; H . S . Knight , son of Bro . H . G . Knight I . P . M . of Lodge Horsa ; and H . H . Street , son of Bro . Street , of Lodge Horsa .

The lads having been introduced into the Lodge , selected verses from tho Volume of the Sacred Law were read by the Chaplain Bro . H . J . Atkins ; and then tho bovs wore presented to the W . M . by Bro . C . T . Miles , who made a grateful allusion to the devoliou of their fathers t > the Craft . The Worshipful Master Brn . VV . Mattocks , in addressing the lads , said : It verv rarely happens that any b . ; t regci ' ariy initiated Brethren are admitted

within the precincts of an open Masonic Lodge . We have , however , invited you fivo Lewises here tbis evou " ng to presoni . each of you with a souvenir of the two recent functions in wh'ch yoa were privileged to take a somewhat important part . The rel ^ ious and humanitarian objects to which those two buildings will be dedicated when they are complete were referred to in your presence bv our revered Provincial Grand Master , and it only remains for me

to remind you that the Volume of the Sacred Law , which you had tbe honour of carrying ou both occasions' is an essential part of every Masonic ceremony . It may happen that on reaching the years ot manhood you will desire to enter the Fraternity iu which your lespectiye fathers are esteemed Brethren . In the meantime , whether you ultimately become Freemasons or not , let me enjoin you to make a daily study of tbisgrand old Book , and you will become

acquainted with the real basis of our Masonic Art . By the same means you will have laid the foundation of a manly , honest life , devoted , we earnestly trust , to the service of your fellow men . On behalf of the three sister Lodges of Bournemouth I now present each one of you with a copy of the Sacred Volume , which we regard as the unerring Standard of Truth and Justice , in the hope that you will always direct your conduct by tho divine precepts it contains .

Insideeaoh of the Bibles then presented was the following inscription : — Presented by the Lodge of Hengist , 195 ; Boscombe Lodge , 2158 ; and Horsa Lodge , 2208 , to as a memento ol his having assisted in carrying the Volume of tho Sacred Law in the Masonic ceremonies of laying tho first stones of the new Boscombe Hospital , 28 th June 1899 , and St . Andrew's Church , Bournemouth , 3 rd October 1899 .

W . Mattocks W . M . Lodge of Hengist , 195 . A . 0 . Grosutt W . M . Boscombe Lodge , 2158 . H . B . Harvey W . M . Horsa Lodge , 2208 . Bro . J . J . Brazier , in responding on behalf of the lads , expressed appreciation of the kindness of the throe Lodges on presenting to them the Bibles which thoy had just received , and said no more fitting present could

have been chosen , because whilst tho Volume of the Sacred Law was opened at all Masonic meetings , it was also taken as the rule and guide for the lives of Freemasons in their intercourse with the outer world . The lads , be said , felt it to have been a great privilege to assist in the Masonic ceremonies at Boscombe and Malmesbury Park , and they were old enough to hope that the connection with Freemasonry formed on the occasions referred to might be

consummated when they arrived at mature ago . They felt that the fact of their fathers being members of tbo Craft was sufficient to induce them to follow in their footsteps . Bro . Brazier thanked the W . M . for the kind words he had addressed to them , and assured him that his remarks had made a deep impression on their minds , and that they would earnestly strive to follow

the advice given . In conclusion , Bro . Brazier conveyed the thanks of the lads to the W . M . and Officers for having permitted the presentation to take , place there , and especially expressed thanks to Bro . Miles for the trouble he had taken in the matter . The Bibles presented were of the Teacher edition , and handsomely bound .

CENTURION LODGE , No . 2322 . THE regular meeting was held at the Victoria Hotel , Manchester , on Monday , Oth iast ., Bro . Surg .-Capt . J . J . Kent l" * airclough W . M ., the principal business of the evening being the annual election of Officers . Bro . Rov . J . W . ChalHnor P . P . G . Chap . S . W . was unanimously chosed as W . M .-elect . Bro . Lieut .-Col . J . Howarth-Clarke P . P . G . D . P . M . ' Treasurer was reappointed to that position .

DUKE OF YORK LODGE , No . 2449 . THE regular meeting was held at the Albion Hotel , Manchester , on Thursday , 9 th instant , Bro . A . G . Bryce W . M ., there being a very good attendance . After the reading and confirmation of minutes , Mr . William Brantingham , who had been balloted for on a previous occasion , was initiated into the mysteries and privileges of ancient Freemasonry by the W . M ., assisted by Bro . J . T . Whittle J . W ., who presented and explained the working tools , and delivered the Ancient Charge . Another initiation had been announced to take place , but the candidate was absent through illness .

The usual festive board followed , songs , recitations , & c , being given by Bros . Clement Jno . Hall P . M ., Saml . Kew S . D ., Arthur Sutcliffe J . D ., Wm . Morecroft P . M ., T . W . In the meantime , whether you ultimately become Freemasons or not , let me enjoin you to make a daily study of tbisgrand old Book , and you will become

acquainted with the real basis of our Masonic Art . By the same means you will have laid the foundation of a manly , honest life , devoted , we earnestly trust , to the service of your fellow men . On behalf of the three sister Lodges of Bournemouth I now present each one of you with a copy of the Sacred Volume , which we regard as the unerring Standard of Truth and Justice , in the hope that you will always direct your conduct by tho divine precepts it contains .

Insideeaoh of the Bibles then presented was the following inscription : — Presented by the Lodge of Hengist , 195 ; Boscombe Lodge , 2158 ; and Horsa Lodge , 2208 , to as a memento ol his having assisted in carrying the Volume of tho Sacred Law in the Masonic ceremonies of laying tho first stones of the new Boscombe Hospital , 28 th June 1899 , and St . Andrew's Church , Bournemouth , 3 rd October 1899 .

Brazier , in responding on behalf of the lads , expressed appreciation of the kindness of the throe Lodges on presenting to them the Bibles which thoy had just received , and said no more fitting present could

have been chosen , because whilst tho Volume of the Sacred Law was opened at all Masonic meetings , it was also taken as the rule and guide for the lives of Freemasons in their intercourse with the outer world . The lads , be said , felt it to have been a great privilege to assist in the Masonic ceremonies at Boscombe and Malmesbury Park , and they were old enough to hope that the connection with Freemasonry formed on the occasions referred to might be

consummated when they arrived at mature ago . They felt that the fact of their fathers being members of tbo Craft was sufficient to induce them to follow in their footsteps . Bro . Brazier thanked the W . M . for the kind words he had addressed to them , and assured him that his remarks had made a deep impression on their minds , and that they would earnestly strive to follow

the advice given . In conclusion , Bro . Brazier conveyed the thanks of the lads to the W . M . and Officers for having permitted the presentation to take , place there , and especially expressed thanks to Bro . Miles for the trouble he had taken in the matter . The Bibles presented were of the Teacher edition , and handsomely bound .

CENTURION LODGE , No . 2322 . THE regular meeting was held at the Victoria Hotel , Manchester , on Monday , Oth iast ., Bro . Surg .-Capt . J . J . Kent l" * airclough W . M ., the principal business of the evening being the annual election of Officers . Bro . Rov . J . W . ChalHnor P . P . G . Chap . S . W . was unanimously chosed as W . M .-elect . Bro . Lieut .-Col . J . Howarth-Clarke P . P . G . D . P . M . ' Treasurer was reappointed to that position .

DUKE OF YORK LODGE , No . 2449 . THE regular meeting was held at the Albion Hotel , Manchester , on Thursday , 9 th instant , Bro . A . G . Bryce W . M ., there being a very good attendance . After the reading and confirmation of minutes , Mr . William Brantingham , who had been balloted for on a previous occasion , was initiated into the mysteries and privileges of ancient Freemasonry by the W . M ., assisted by Bro . J . T . Whittle J . W ., who presented and explained the working tools , and delivered the Ancient Charge . Another initiation had been announced to take place , but the candidate was absent through illness .

The usual festive board followed , songs , recitations , & c , being given by Bros . Clement Jno . Hall P . M ., Saml . Kew S . D ., Arthur Sutcliffe J . D ., Wm . Morecroft P . M ., T . W . Lewin , Edward Roberts P . M ., and others , a pleasant evening being spent . Principal among those present , and not mentioned above were Bros . Simon Mamelok P . M . P . P . J . G . D . S .
