Tho first degree was ably wrought by the Depute Master , after which Bro . Louttit , in his ablo mannor , passed a brother to the degree of Fellow Craft .

Star Lodge . —This Lodge hold its Nomination Meeting on Monday , in its own Hall , No . 12 Trongato , Glasgow , Bro . Morgan R . W . M . presiding . Ho was proposed for re-election , but declined to stand . Bro- Martin , tho D . M ., was then nominated unanimously , but some little contest is likely to tako plnco at tho noxt meoting for the subo rdmate offices .

Belgrave Lodge , No . 749 . —The installation mooting of this Lodge was hold on tho 8 th inst ., at Anderton ' s Hotel , Fleet Street . There was a full attendance of the officers and brethren ; and , among the visitors , were Bros . Rosenthal P . P . S . D . Middlosex , Liusell P . P . G . P . Mid ., Thos . J . Cusworth 813 , J . D . Loverdo 1196 , G . G . Leech 201 , J . L . Cogan 1365 . Tho minutes were unanimously

confirmed , and the ballot having been taken for Messrs . Henry W . L . Hobbs , and Richard J . Tyrrell , as initiates , and ono for Bro . Captain Redhead , of the Oriental Lodge , Constantinople , as a joining member •all unanimously elected—the W . M ., Bro . William Batey , passed Bros . McCreary , Cnlpin , Clemence , and Chesney . The installation of Bro . Joseph William Hobbs , the late S . W ., as W . M ., then took

place , which was worked by Bro . Henry Garrod , who certainly deserves great praise for the manner in which it was conducted . The installed W . M . then initiated Messrs . Hobb 3 and Tyrrell , in a masterly manner . The officers invested by the new W . M ., each with an ap . propriate speech , were—Bros . Greenwood S . W ., R . E . Booker J . W ., G . Gardner S . Bunting Treas ., Nanton Org ., P . ParBons Steward . Bro . Battey , the retiring W . M ., was presented with a P . M . ' s jewel , and , after the closing of the Lodge , the brethren adjourned to a banquet , upwards of ninety sitting down . The dinner over , the W . M . gave tho loyal toasts with excellent point , as he did also the toast of the Grand Officers . That of tho Initiates was drunk with great cordiality , the nowly

made brethren replying in appropriate terms . Tho I . P . M . then gave the W . M ., saying he was sure Brother Hobbs would fully justify the choice of the brethren , as he had diligently worked to the chaf having fulfilled every office . The toast was duly acknowledged j ™ the W . M . Other toasts followed , the company separating at a ] at 0 hour , having listened to some excellent recitations by Bros . Barn a , t ( j Cusworth , and Polharn , and some capital singing by members an ( 3 visitors .

Dalhousie Lodge , No . 860 . — Tho regular monthly meeting of this Lodgo took place at Anderton ' s Hotel , Fleet , street , on Thursday , 9 th November , P . M . Dalwood W . M ., W . J . Smith anting as S . W ., P . M . Senecal as J . W ., Weige S . D ., Worsley J . D ., Dickens I . G ., P . M . Littell Secretary , Bro . Wallington I . P . M . and Treasurer ; also P . M . 's Underwood and Bates , and a good muster of

brethren . The Lodge was opened in duo form , the minutes of the last meeting wero read and confirmed . Mr . J . A . Williams was initiated into tho Order . Bro . Tompkins was passed to the degree of a F . C ., and Bro . Woodhead raised to tho Sublime Degree . Two gentlemen were proposed for initiation , and ono member for joining ,

at the next monthly night . The Lodge was closed in due form . Tho brethren then adjourned for refreshments , when the W . M . gave the usual Loyal and Masonic toasts , which were interspersed by somo capital singing . The Tyler's toast followed in due course , and the brethren separated , after having spent a pleasant evening .

Dalhousie Lodge of Instruction , No . 860 . —The weekly meeting of the above Lodgo took place at Bro . Allen ' s , Royal Edward , Triangle , Hackney , on Tuesday , 14 th November . Bros . Cambridge W . M ., W . J . Smith S . W ., Barker J . W ., Weige S . D ., Hewlett J . D ., Dallas I . G ., Worsloy Secretary , and Wallington P . M . Preceptor . There were also present Bros . Johnson , Perrin , Crosby ,

Hogarth , Davies , Saunders , Baxter , Cook , King , & c . The Lodge was opened in duo form , and the minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed . The ceremony of passing was rehearsed , Bro . Hogarth acting a 3 candidate . Bro . Hewlett worked the First and Second Sections of the Lecture , assisted by the brethren . The Lodge was opened in the Third Degree , and closed down to the First . Bro . W . J . Smith worked the Third and Fourth Sections of the Lecture . Bro .

Smith was unanimously elected W . M . for tho ensuing week , tho Preceptor paying him a high compliment , statiug that , knowing his working , there was a treat in store for the brethren for next Tuesday night . We heartily wish him a good attendance . Bro . Hewlett gave notice that the Fifteen Sections would be worked by Bro . Webb , on tho 24 th inst ., at the Earl Grey , Mile-end-gate , to commence at seven . All Masonic business being ended , the Lodge was closed in perfect harmony .

M . initiated Messrs . Walter Rowley , T . Bailey , E .

Winshurst and F . Bauey , in a manner that reflected great credit for so young a Mason . Tho W . M . then rose and said it afforded him pleasure to present , in the name of the Lodgo , a testimonial of respect to the retiring W . M ., Bro . Jones , who had so ably conducted the duties of tho chair during his year of office . He hoped that ho might follow in Bro . Jones ' s footsteps . Bro . Jones in reply said , He felt proud

to receivo tho jewel , the more so from the knowledge that , during his year of office , the Lodge was never in a more flourishing condition , Tho W . M . then said he had another pleasing duty to perform , and that was to present to the Ex-Treasurer , Bro . Deportn P . M ., who had been in office sinco tho formation of tho Lodgo , and who had con . ducted his dnties in overy way to their satisfaction , with something

that , he wa 3 rnro , would be a slight recognition of the valuable services rendered by him to the Lodge . Bro . Deportn said the presentation would never bo forgotten by him ; it would remind him of many happy hours passed . Although ho had resigned the Treasurership of the Lodge , it had fallen into tho hands of a worthy successor . His services , however , were always at their command .

and he heartily and cordially thanked them for their valnablo gift . The Lodge was then closed , and the brethren pirtook of tho usual banquet and desert . On the removal of tho cloth , grace having beon said , the W . M . proposed tho usual Loyal and Masonic toasts . Bro . Jones I . P . M . then asked the brethren to do justice to the next toast , and that was , Tho Health of the W . M ., who had so recently been

installed into tho chair . He had ably and perfectly initiated four gentlemen . He had watched Bro . Jones ' s progress in Freemasonry ; thoy had worked hand in hand together ; and ho was sure the brethren would give a hearty response to tho toast . The W . M . said , From the time of his initiation , he was always pleased to bo among hia brother Masons , and ho had attained the summit of his ambition . He

then proposed the toast of the Past Masters . The Lodge was very proud of them . Bro . Jones replied . Tho W . M . next proposed the toast of the Initiates , and Bro . W . Rowley , on behalf of theso , made an excellent speech . He was followed by Bros . Bailey and Winshurst . The toast of tho Visitors was then given , and Bros . McCarthy , H . Massey , Thomas , H . M . Levy and S . Rowley responded .

Tho W . M . then proposed the toasts of tho Wardens , also the Officers Bro . Ellis said he was pleased to see how harmoniously tho meeting had been conducted . The W . M . then proposed the toast of tho Installing Master , Bro . L . Stean , and spoko of him in connexion with the Masonic Charities . He hoped he might bo spared among them for many years , to give the benefit of his valuable instruction .

Bro . L . Stean said he was pleased to hear his name connected with tho Masonic Charities . He had beon a Mason for 45 years , and his groat aim had always been the uniformity of woi'king . He had visited many Lodges of Instruction , and there were some slight , but , he thought , great differences in the working . He had seen that of the Lodge of Emulation , and he was sure the ono that the Grand Secretary belonged to was that wherein brethren could

attain Masonic knowledge . As Masonry was uuiversal , so ought its working to be . ( Cheers . ) He felt great interest in their Lodge , as ono of its founders , and would do all he could for its benefit . Ho regretted tho resignation of Bro . Deportn , late Treasurer , who was also one of the founders . Tho Lodge was , two years since , made a Vice Patron of ono of the Charities , and he hoped before long to see thorn Vice Presidents of the other two . Bro . Jones I . P . M . than

announced his intention to become a Steward on a future occasion , and tho Tyler ' s toast concluded a very agreeable aud harmonious evening .

Grey Friars Lodge , No . 1101 . —This Lodge held its monthly moeting on Wednesday , the 8 th of November , at the Masonic Hall , Reading . Present—Bros . Edward Margrett W . M ., Arthur Welch S . W ., Wm . George Flanagan J . W ., Wm . P . Ivey P . M . Sec , J . T . Stransom Treas ., J . Early Danks S . D ., Wm . Ferguson J . D ., Rev . C . R . Honey Chaplain , T . Newman Stoward , Edwd . J . The Lodge was opened in t ho second degree , and Bro . Hilder was passsd . Tho Lodgo was resumed ,

when tho olection of three members on tho permanent committee took place . Bros . Bailey , Robinson , aud Hawkes were unanimously chosen . Tho W . M . announced that the permanent committee had revised the bye-laws , aud he thought it would be better that a proof , with a margin , bo sent to each member of the Lodge before any discussion took place . This was unanimously agreed to . The

Secretary read a letter from the Prov . Grand Sec . of Berks and Bucks , requesting to bo informed to which of the Masonic Charities tho voto of P . G . Lodgo should be applied . After Borne discussion the Benevolent Institution was decided npon , the stewardship of which Charity was left an open question . After receiving nominations , the Lodge was closed , according to ancient form ,

to receivo tho jewel , the more so from the knowledge that , during his year of office , the Lodge was never in a more flourishing condition , Tho W . M . then said he had another pleasing duty to perform , and that was to present to the Ex-Treasurer , Bro . Deportn P . M ., who had been in office sinco tho formation of tho Lodgo , and who had con . ducted his dnties in overy way to their satisfaction , with something

that , he wa 3 rnro , would be a slight recognition of the valuable services rendered by him to the Lodge . Bro . Deportn said the presentation would never bo forgotten by him ; it would remind him of many happy hours passed . Although ho had resigned the Treasurership of the Lodge , it had fallen into tho hands of a worthy successor . His services , however , were always at their command .

and he heartily and cordially thanked them for their valnablo gift . The Lodge was then closed , and the brethren pirtook of tho usual banquet and desert . On the removal of tho cloth , grace having beon said , the W . M . proposed tho usual Loyal and Masonic toasts . Bro . Jones I . P . M . then asked the brethren to do justice to the next toast , and that was , Tho Health of the W . M ., who had so recently been

installed into tho chair . He had ably and perfectly initiated four gentlemen . He had watched Bro . Jones ' s progress in Freemasonry ; thoy had worked hand in hand together ; and ho was sure the brethren would give a hearty response to tho toast . The W . M . said , From the time of his initiation , he was always pleased to bo among hia brother Masons , and ho had attained the summit of his ambition . He

then proposed the toast of the Past Masters . The Lodge was very proud of them . Bro . Jones replied . Tho W . M . next proposed the toast of the Initiates , and Bro . W . Rowley , on behalf of theso , made an excellent speech . He was followed by Bros . Bailey and Winshurst . The toast of tho Visitors was then given , and Bros . McCarthy , H . Massey , Thomas , H . M . Levy and S . Rowley responded .

Tho W . M . then proposed the toasts of tho Wardens , also the Officers Bro . Ellis said he was pleased to see how harmoniously tho meeting had been conducted . The W . M . then proposed the toast of tho Installing Master , Bro . L . Stean , and spoko of him in connexion with the Masonic Charities . He hoped he might bo spared among them for many years , to give the benefit of his valuable instruction .

Bro . L . Stean said he was pleased to hear his name connected with tho Masonic Charities . He had beon a Mason for 45 years , and his groat aim had always been the uniformity of woi'king . He had visited many Lodges of Instruction , and there were some slight , but , he thought , great differences in the working . He had seen that of the Lodge of Emulation , and he was sure the ono that the Grand Secretary belonged to was that wherein brethren could

attain Masonic knowledge . As Masonry was uuiversal , so ought its working to be . ( Cheers . ) He felt great interest in their Lodge , as ono of its founders , and would do all he could for its benefit . Ho regretted tho resignation of Bro . Deportn , late Treasurer , who was also one of the founders . Tho Lodge was , two years since , made a Vice Patron of ono of the Charities , and he hoped before long to see thorn Vice Presidents of the other two . Bro . Jones I . P . M . than

announced his intention to become a Steward on a future occasion , and tho Tyler ' s toast concluded a very agreeable aud harmonious evening .

The Lodge was opened in t ho second degree , and Bro . Hilder was passsd . Tho Lodgo was resumed ,

when tho olection of three members on tho permanent committee took place . Bros . Bailey , Robinson , aud Hawkes were unanimously chosen . Tho W . M . announced that the permanent committee had revised the bye-laws , aud he thought it would be better that a proof , with a margin , bo sent to each member of the Lodge before any discussion took place . This was unanimously agreed to . The

Secretary read a letter from the Prov . Grand Sec . of Berks and Bucks , requesting to bo informed to which of the Masonic Charities tho voto of P . G . Lodgo should be applied . After Borne discussion the Benevolent Institution was decided npon , the stewardship of which Charity was left an open question . After receiving nominations , the Lodge was closed , according to ancient form ,
