rjlHE July Quarterly Court was held on Thursday of last X week , at Freemasons' Hall , Bro . A . 0 . Spaull Past Grand Standard Bearer presiding . The Brethren unanimously passed a motion made by Bro . E . Letchworth Grand Secretary , in the absence , through illness , of Bro . Peter de Lande Long Past Grand Deacon , that in view of the long and pre-eminently

successful services rendered by Miss Davis , as head governess of the Institution for a period of thirty-five years , and having due regard to the emoluments attached to the office , she be allowed a retiring pension of £ 225 per annum . The list of candidates for election into the school in October next was then settled at 26 , 19 of whom will be elected .

THE Quarterly Court of this Institution was held on Friday of last week , at Freemasons' Hall , Bro . Eichard Eve Past Grand Treasurer in the chair . The Court resolved that fourteen boys should be elected to the benefits of the Institution out of a list of forty-four candidates at the Quarterly Court next October .

It is to be regretted from a common sense and general Masonic point of view , that the two District Grand Masters should have made such a childish exhibition of themselves in the following advertisement : — MASONIC . —Understanding that attempts are being made to induce

Brethren of the English and Scottish Constitutions in our Districts to visit the meeting of the so-called Grand Lodge of New Zealand ( as advertised ) , we beg to caution such Brethren against attending , as the only result will be suspension from all Masonic privileges , as per instruction from their respective Grand Lodges . —JAMBS GORE D . G . M . S . C . ; T . S . GRAHAM D . G . M . E . C .

The " attempts to induce were in plain English courteous and fraternal invitations to be present at a most important Masonic function , on the lines usually recognised in other parts of the colony . It will be interesting to note the actual result of the stupid threat . — " New Zealand Craftsman . "

We cannot help reminding the advisors of H . E . H . the Most Wor . Grand Master , that it would have been a very nice way of celebrating tbe twenty-first anniversary of the election of the Prince of Wales to the Grand East , by granting to the Grand Lodge of Quebec full and complete Masonic rights as an

independent Grand Lodge , and thus heal a standing disgrace , and a cause of bad feeling in the Craft . Such an act , we feel confident , would be in keeping with the kindly feelings the Grand Master entertains for the loyal Masons of Quebec . — " Canadian Craftsman . "
