Taylor , and the minutes having been confirmed , the billot was taken for Mr . H . G . Mason , sou of Bro . II . Mason , and proved unanimous . Brother Mason , who is an esteemed Past Master of the Lodge , by special request , initiated the candidate , and was warmly congratulated , not on the masterly manner in which he performed the

ceremony , bnt in having tho pleasnre of initiating ono ol his own family into the ranks of tho good old Pattison . The Worshipful Master raised Brother James to tho thirl decree , und gavo tho lectnre in the first degree admirably , and on tho Lodgo being closed , the brethren dined , and spent a few hours with toasts and hnrn ony .

elicited universal admiration from tho brethren assembled . A notice of motion was submittoi that ton guineas bo given to tho East Lancashire Systematic Masonio Educational and Benevolent Fund , after which tho Lodge waa closed in peace and harmony , and the brethren adjonrned for refreshments , the same boing supplemented by the usual festive board .

NYANZA LODGE , No . 1197 . THE anniversary was celebrated on Wednesday , the 8 th inst ., at Freemasons' Hall , Ilminster , when Bro . A . W . Heard was installed W . opened the Lodge indue form and with solemn prayer at 730 p . m . Iu the enforced absence of Brother James Morrison S . W ., who had recently been seriously hurt in a railway accident nt ono of the Manchester Stations , and who is now jonrnejing to Eaypt for recuperating health , Brother Nail P . M . occupied the S . W . ' s chair . The second Tracing Board waa explained by Brother Fryer , who was

afterwards thanked by the VV . M ., for tho excellent way in which ho bad performed the duty . Brother Beever then addressed the brethren on tbe desirability for smartness , uniformity , and attention to detail in fche rendering of Masonio work . It was resolved to have a pic-nio dnring the ensning summer months , and a Committee , consisting of the W . M . and J . W ., together with Past Masters Moss , Nail , and

Fryer , was appointed to manage details . The Lodge was afterwards olosed in ample form and in peace and harmony . At the social boord which succeeded the Lodge business fche nsnal toasts wore honoured . The health of the W . M . was proposed by Brother Nail , to which Bro . Beever replied , regretting the absence of candidates , whereby bis Officers and himself had hitherto been unable to show their qualities .

Brothers Moss and Nail responded to tho toast of the P . M . s , both brethren giving interesting details of their connection with the Architect Lodge . The VV . M ., in proposing tbe health of tho oldest Mason in the room ( Brother Schloss ) , said that as a 51 years ' member of the Fraternity , although he had suffered from illness , yet the subject of his toast showed that Freemasonry agreed with

him . He welcomed him back amongst them with alt the heartiness , goodwill , and sincerity , which he could command . Brother Schloss responded , mentioning incidentally that be had had no little experience of Freemasonry both here and on the Continent , nnd thongh to a great extent it was a sham abroad , yet he was prond to say that in England it was a reality . Amongst tho brethren who

contributed to tho musical portion of tbo entertainment were Bros . Nail , Bennett , Rushton , and Fryer , tho latter singing " The Longshoreman . " Before tbe close of tho festivities the Worshipful Master announced that tho Director of Ceremonies ( Brother Nail ) had promised to give a lecture on " Masonic History"' at their next meeting .

TUDOR LODGE OE RIFLE VOLUNTEERS , Nc . 1 S 3 S . rPHE ordinary monthly meeting of this Lodge , held on Friday , iho * 3 rd instant , at the Drill Hall , Wolverhampton , was of more than usual interest as tbe business wgenda included tho initiation of the Right Hon . William Ileneage , Earl of Dartmouth , Privy Councillor , & c . The Lodge having been opened by the VV . M ., tho Depnty

Provincial Grand Master in charge took tho chair , and gave a short address to tho brethren . The W . M . having resumed his gavel , proceeded to initiate Lord Dartmouth , and also gavo tho charge after initiation . After banquet , the Worshipful Mnster having given tho Queen and the Craft , and tho M . W . Grand Master aud Officers of Grand Lodge , in proposing tho Provincial Grand Lodge , heartily

welcomed tho Depnty Provincial Grand Mnster , und congratulated him on his restored health . After the Deputy Provincial Grand Master had replied , Brother Major E . II . Thome proposed the health of tho W . M ., congratulating him ou the excellent aud impressive manner in which he had conducted the ceremony of initiation . Tho Worshipful Mastor . having replied , tho Deputy Provincial Grand Master proposed tho health of the Initiate , Bro . thc Earl of

Dartmonth , pointing out tho additional prestige thafc must como to the Craft by EO distinguished an addition to its members , Bro . Lord Dartmouth being the Lord Lieutenant of tho Province of Staffordshire . Brother Lord Dartmouth , in replying , said that ho appreciated the honour of boing admitted a member of so ancient and honourable an institution , and that it would be hia sincere wish to make daily advancement in tho art . The toast of the Pasfc Masters havinir beon

given , duly honoured , and replied to by the Immediate Pasfc Master , Brother Captain Longden , aud Major Walker , the Worshipfnl Master gave the toast of tho Visitors , expressing his pleasure at seeing so many distinguished brethren present , and coupling tho toast with tho names of Bros . Barnett and Gibson . Thc Officers and tho Tyler ' s toast having been given , a very pleasant evening camo to an end . Bros . Captain Chapman and Baker contributed some capital songs , which were mnch appreciated .
