for Boys , and fourteen guiueas in aid of local Charities . On the conclusion of the business , the brethren and guests proceeded to discuss an excellent banquet , Bro . Lewis Lewis W . M . presiding . An interesting featme of the proceedings was the presentation of a bandsome testimonial to Bro . G . de Paris P . M . Secretary . It took the form of a massive silver salver and coffee-pot , the former of which bore the inscription : —

" Presented , with a silver coffee-pot , to Brother G . de Paris P . M ., by the brethren of the Yarborough Lodge , No . 811 , as a mark of their esteem and regard , and in grateful acknowledgment of the valuable and energetic services rendered by him aa honorary Secretary during a period of eleven years . Jan . 21 , 1882 . "

An address on vellum , signed by numerous Freemasons , accompanied the gift . Bro . De Paris returned thanks in a few appropriate remarks . Songs and pianoforte selections were rendered during the evening by Bros . L . Conti , A . King , W . Giffard , W . Kuhe , and W . Ardley .

' PHE annual meeting of Una prosperous Lodge took place afc the - * - Cock Tavern , Highbury , on the afternoon of Thursday , the 9 th instant . The Bye-Laws having been read , the chair was taken by Bro . J . L . Mather P . M ., and Rro . D . P . Holness , W . M . elect , was presented for the benefit of

installation . A Board of Iustalled Masters was formed , and Bro . Holness was inducted into the chair of K . S . in accordance with ancient custom . He should do hia best for its welfare , and trusted that , at tho close of his year of office , the brethren would find no reason to complain of their having chosen

him . The health of the Initiate having been briefly but appropriately acknowledged , the Visitors were similarly honoured , Bros . Levander , Hogard , and Pownceby responding . Bro . Mather , Founder and Installing Master that evening , was most cordially proposed and received , shortly after which the brethren rose aud separated , after spending a most enjoyable evening .

special Masonic toasts , Bro . W . James Johns , the next Past Master in sonority , by desire of the W . M ., proposed the toast of the evening , namely , the Senior Past Master Bro . Chirgwin . After an enumeration of the many good qualities of that brother , and especially hia great services to the Lodge of Fortitude , in many ways , since hia initiation some twenty-six years since , Bro . Johns most gracefully

alluded to the excellent manner in which he had acted as Treasurer for some nineteen years , and , on behalf of the whole Lodge , he asked his acceptance of a very handsome solid silver salver , bearing an inscription , beautifully engraved , expressive of the event , as a small acknowledgment of the hearty thanks of the brethren for his long attention to their interests . Bro . Chirgwin rose , and in a

neat speech , as well as bis feelings would permit , returned thanks for so unexpected and highly valued a gift , and assured those present that whilst he had no idea that such a result was to have followed bis resignation as Treasurer , he should ever appreciate their kindness , and he hoped that those of his representatives who would come after him would value it as highly as he did .

He congratulated the brethren on the grand position the Lodge had attained , and hoped that the young members particalarly , would seek to perfect themselves in their duties , as many of the older ones had done , remarking that he meant to continue a member of the Lodge as long as he lived . Bro . Chirgwin resumed his seat amidst the hearty greetings of the members . The

salver was supplied by Bro . T . L . Dorrington , and bore the following inscription : —Presented to W . Bro . Thomas Chirgwin , J . P ., P . Prov . S . G . W . of Cornwall , Senior Past Master , by the members of Lodge Fortitude , No . 131 , in appreciation of his invaluable services aa Treasurer for 19 years .
