Princess Victoria Mary of Teok has consented to become patroness of the Maoready Seaside Holiday Institute at Hastings , whioh will be opened expressly for the members of the Theatrical Mission , Covent Garden , at the commencement of the new year .

THE BLENHEIM ORCHIDS . —The late Duke of Marlborough ' s collection of orchids will be sold by auction next Monday and

following days , by Messrs . Protheroe and Morris , at the gardens of Blenheim Palace . The collection comprises 25 , 000 " established " plants , nnd idoludes many fine specimens .

The Pope has addressed a letter to the Itn' <* n Bishops and another to the Italian pe . <* in both of whioh he severely denounces the freemasons , who , in bis Holiness ' s opinion , pursue the Satanic aim of seeking to replace Christianity by natnralism .

We understand that a farther sum has been granted by the Commissioners of the Chicago Exhibition to tbe Women ' s Section presided over by Princess Christian . The exhibits will be of a highly varied and interesting character .

A meeting of the Committee of Benevolence of the Province of Cheshire has been held at Crewe in connection with the proposed fund of benevolence for the relief of aged Freemasons and widows of Masons who

cannot be got in the Royal Masonio Benevolent Institution in London . The following were elected members of tbe Charity Council : —Brother Alexander Owen , Stalybridge division ; Bro . Henry Jackson , Hyde division j

division ; Bro . G . H . Browne , Birkenhead division ; Bro . John Lee , Seacombe division . Several petitions for relief were considered , and five grants , amounting in the aggregate to £ 50 , were made . It was originally

proposed to raise an amount of not less than £ 1 , 000 , and towards this the Provincial Grand Master , Lord Egerton of Tatton , promised £ 100 . At the meeting at Crewe reports were submitted by the Charity

Representatives , and with promises made to the Provincial Grand Secretary , Brother Newhouse , the Chairmap ( Brother Salmon ) was able to announce that the magnificent sum of £ 1 , 799 10 s had been paid or promised

towards the fund . It is now certain that the amount of £ 2 , 000 will be raised . The draft scheme for the proposed institution was adopted with some slight alterations , and a strong committee was appointed for the purpose of drawing up bve-laws .
