The toast of the Queen was received with great enthusiasm , the National Anthem being sung by the Queen ' s Glee Singers . Equal appreciation greeted that of fche Grand Master , and the Grand Officers , for whom Bros . W . E . Chapman and W . A . Scurrah responded . . Bro . Merrett then sounded the gavel , and said it was his proud privilege to the health of their new Master . He was sure the Brethren had

propose hit upon the tight man for the place , and his work in the Lodge that evening had conclusively proved that he would carry out his duties to their entire satisfaction . He had been initiated in the Lodge , and had filled the usual offices . He therefore trusted that he would be blessed with health and strength to fulfil his duties , which they all knew he had the ability and willingness to perform . thanked the

Brother Hooper , who was received with hearty applause , Brethren for their kind reception . He was quite aware that in taking the office of Master he had assumed a great responsibility , hut with their assistance he would do his best to maintain the high character and reputation of the Lodge . He took the greatest interest it it , being his Mother Lodge , and some of the happiest days of his life had been spent in it . He hoped so to perform his duties that , at the termination of his year of office , he would still retain their regard and esteem . and them

In well-chosen words Bro . Hooper proposed the Initiates , urged to regard Freemasonry in its true light , so that if they acted up to its precepts they would become better men . Each of those Brethren responded , and expressed their thanks upon being admitted members of the Lodge . The W . M . then submitted the toast of the Past Masters , who were all good men and true . Their successive efforts had brought the Lodge to its present proud position . Bros . Jegeries , Harrison , responded , expressing their approbation of the excellent work in the Lodge , and the lavish hospitality at the festive board . Bro . W . M . Stiles replying , for himself and the Treasurer , who was absent , said he had been associated with the Lodge since its commencement , and had found a great amount of friendship among the Brethren . They had no schisms of quarrels within their walls , but had the hearty satisfaction of knowing that all were happy . He was proud to be the Secretary of so popular a Lodgeand to know that he possessed the esteem of its hundred members .

, Bro . Hooper referred in terms of Brotherly affection to his Officers , whom he designated as worthy Masons and excellent workmen in the Craft . He was extremely fortunate in having such a good set of fellows fco assist him , and prognosticated a happy year of office for them all . The Tyler ' s toast brought the proceedings to a pleasant termination .

During the evening a capital entertainment was given under tbe direction of Bro . Richard Warner , assisted by the following artistes . Miss Ruth Davenport , Miss Lily Warren , Miss Rose Verdi , and Messrs . Alfred A . Huxley , Frank Lyhne , and Professor Harcourt , a remarkably clever performer of legerdermain .

Bro . William Singleton Hooper , the new W . M . of the Lodge , was born 4 th January . 1863 , at Edinburgh . He entered early into Freemasonry , having been initiated in the Strand Lodge in March 1886 , and has ever evinced a keen interest in matters relating to the Craft . He was one of the Founders and first S . W . of the Eccentric Lodge , No . 2488 , and is a Companion of the Chapter attached to that Lodge . He is also a member of the Savage Club Lodge of Mark Masons , and his interest in the Masonic Charities is proved by the fact that he is a Life Governor of the Boys School .

HOLLOWAY LODGE , No . 2601 . A MEETING was held at Beale ' s Masonic Hall , Holloway Road , on the 16 th ult ., Bro . James Terry P . G . Sw . B . W . M . Bro . W . P . King was raised to the third degree , and Bro . A . 0 . Brett was passed to the second . The ballot having proved unanimous in favour of Messrs . John Edward Clarke , Willy Joseph Pullen , and William Alfred Burgess , as candidates , they were initiated , and Bro . Dr . Arthur Hope . Bernhardt , M . R . C . S ., of No . 1612 was unanimously elected a joining member . The ceremonies were rendered in a masterly and impressive manner hy the Worshipful Master , says the " Hornsey Journal . "

The Lodge being closed the Brethren adjourned to the banquet , after which the usual toasts were proposed . The W . M ., in responding to the toast of his health , proposed by Bro . Hughes P . M ., said he would never forget the honour that had been conferred upon , him by being chosen the first W . M . of this important Lodge , which had proved to be a complete success , although only consecrated in March last .

After the minutes of the last meeting had been confirmed , the Treasurer presented his report , which showed the funds of the Lodge were in a satisfactory condition . The only other business before the Lodge was the Installation , Bro . William Hawker , who was elected W . M . at the previous meeting , being presented by Bro . Beamish , and signifying his assent and obedience to the ancient charges and regulations .

The Brethren having retired a Board of Installed Masters was constituted when Bro . Hawker was regularly installed as Master of fche Lodge according to the old traditions . The ceremony was rendered by Bro . Forss in a perfect manner , assisted by Bros . Westwood as S . W ., Jonas Hill as J . W ., and R . J . Beamish as D . C . Upon the re-admission of the Brethren they duly saluted the new Master

LODGE OF SYMPATHY , No . 483 . rfTHE yearly installation festival of this Lodge , one of the most prosperous I in the Province of Kent , took place on Wednesday , at the Royal Clarendon Hotel , Gravesend , with remarkable success . After the minutes of the last meeting had been confirmed , the Treasurer presented his report , which showed the funds of the Lodge were in a satisfactory condition . The only other business before the Lodge was the Installation , Bro . William Hawker , who was elected W . M . at the previous meeting , being presented by Bro . Beamish , and signifying his assent and obedience to the ancient charges and regulations .

The Brethren having retired a Board of Installed Masters was constituted when Bro . Hawker was regularly installed as Master of fche Lodge according to the old traditions . The ceremony was rendered by Bro . Forss in a perfect manner , assisted by Bros . Westwood as S . W ., Jonas Hill as J . W ., and R . J . Beamish as D . C . Upon the re-admission of the Brethren they duly saluted the new Master

who proceeded to appoint and invest the following Officers : —Charles Matthews S . W ., J . N . Willis J . W ., Thomas T . Hogg P . M . Treasurer ( reelected ) , Arthur Ronaldson P . M .
