Kendrick Lodge, No. 2043.

Grand Lodge . He tendered hi 3 felicitations to the new Worshipful Master of the Kendrick Lodgo upon having attained to the honourable position which he now filled , and to the brethren upon the success which the Lodge had already achieved . He nrged on the Officers and members generally to manifest n continuous and

sustained interest in the work of their Lodge , and to exercise dne caution and carefnl supervis i on as to tho introduction of those who sought admission to the mysteries and privileges of the Craft . Allusion was also made to tho approaching Masonic Elections , and to tho organisation that prevailed in the Province as to tho proper

utilisation of voting power , the Provincial Grand Secretary exhorting the brethren to fall in with the general wish that pervaded the Province that all votes should be forwarded to one common centre . The Immediate Past Master , in proposing the toast of the evening , the health of the Worshipful Master ,

observed that he had known Bro . Webb for only a short time , but after the experience of tho past twelve months he had confidence that he would sustain tho duties of the chair with credit to himself and satisfaction to the brethren generally . He had proved himself very efficient thus far , and would , he was sure , sustain the prestige

which the young Lodge had already gained . He felt he must apologise to the brethren for the slight physical disadvantage under which he ( the speaker ) had laboured to-day , suffering as he did from hoarseness , but he had endeavoured to render the installation ceremony as perfectly as he was able . The toast having been cordially

received , tho W . M . thanked the brethren for the honour they had con erred upon him by placing him in the chair of K . S ., and spoke of the happy friendships which had been engendered between himself and many members of the Craft since his initiation into Freemasonry . These pleasing gatherings served to rub off the rough angles

which might otherwise exist amongst them , and he concluded by wishing for tho Kendrick Lodge , which conld now boast of twenty members , a long courso of future prosperity . Bro . Margrett next proposed tho Masonic Charities , in doing which he gave some interesting illustrations of practical charity , and

dilated upon the great usefulness of the various Institutions , which were the pride and boast of the Order . It was very gratifying to have his name associated with so important a toast , and he hoped the interest exhibited in these Institutions might bo well sustained in the coming year . With the toast ho coupled the name of Bro .

Mount P . M ., who responded in suitable terms . After thanking the proposer of the toast for the opportunity of doing so , he sketched the career of the various Masonic Charities , and detailed the oxtent and influence of their respective operations . Ho urged upon the brethren tho advantage of laying up in store for them , by increasing the

permanent income of the Institutions , so that they might not be dependent upon annual subscriptions . The broken column was then passed round , and produced £ 2 10 s , which was very satisfactory , considering the as yet comparatively limited membership . Bro . F . J . Ferguson P . M ., in proposing the Immediate Past and Installing

Master , referred to the loss they had sustained by the death of Past Master Moxhay , who had hitherto been regarded as the permanent Installing Officer of the Reading Lodges , and said that they had now inaugurated a new era , namely that retiring Masters should instal their successors . Bro . Flanagan had made an admirable start in

that direction , and they must all appreciate the zeal and ability he had displayed ou this occasion . He paid a high tribute to the memory of the late Bro . Moxhay , who had been rightly described as a link between the present and the past . In response to a general request , Bro . W . W . Morgan favoured the company with an appropriate

recitation , Tennysou ' s " In Memoriam , " which was much appreciated . Bro . Flanagan , in acknowledging the toast , spoke of the desirability of retiring Masters installing their successors , aud expressed his pleasure in having done so to-day in spite of the physical weakness to which he had already alluded . Tho Junior Warden proposed the

Visitors , who severally responded . Bro . Cook gave the health of the Worshipful Master , Past Masters , and Brethren of the Lodge of Union 414 , and of the Grey Friars Lodge 1101 , the compliment being responded to by the Worshipful Masters of the respective Lodges named—Bros . Withers and Hawkes . The health of the

Wardens , Treasurer , and Officers of the Kendrick Lodge came next , the t'iast being ably responded to , and the programme was fittingly closed with the Tyler's toast . The interesting proceedings were varied by a capital selection of vocal and instrumental music , the arrangements being under the able direction of Bro . Fred . H . Cozens .
