TOWNLEY PARKER LODGE , No . 1083 . THE regular meeting was held at tbe Grand Hotel , Manchester , on Wednesday , the 31 st ult . The circular convening the meeting contained the names of three candidates for initiation , but as two of these , from reasons assigned , did not put in an appearance , only one ceremony was taken , the gentleman who received his first degree being Mr . Herbert Wooler , of Farnworth , Bro . George Parker

W . M . whose work we have described before , performing the ceremony in his usual pleasing and effective manner . Lode * certificates were signed by , and presented to Bros . W . L . B . Hirst , W . Wright , and P . Sammerton . The business of the Lodge was concluded at 7 * 45 , and the brethren afterwards sat down to an

excellent banquet which was succeeded by the festive board , where Loyal and Masonio toasts were dnly honoured , these being interpersed by songs , & c . There were present : —Bros . Mason , this work being done in a most able manner by Bro . John A . Brown . The Worshipfnl Master then initiated into the arts and mysteries of ancient Freemasonry Mr . Robert Hood , the Junior Warden explaining the working tools . After the Lodge was closed the brethren adjourned for refreshment , Bros . John Lawton and Dr .

Forshaw being called npon to respond on behalf of the visitors . The rest of the evening was devoted to songs and recitations , splendid services being rendered by the Masonio members of the Derby Castle Orchestra , amongst whom were Bros . Poulter P . P . G . D . C , Harry Wood ( Conductor ) D . C . 2050 , Graham 591 ( S . C ) , J . Taylor 2042 , J . Richardson 2042 . and W . Hatton 2042 .

ARCHITECT LODGE , No . 1375 . AT the regnlar meeting of this Lodge , which was held at the Masonic Hall , Chorlton-cum-Hardy , on Friday , the 2 nd inst ., a very interesting paper , prepared by Bro . John Yarker P . M . P . G . S . W Greece , and entitled " Masonic Charges , " was read by Bro . A . W . Bennett , and very well received . The paper contained many points , which led to disenssion of a friendly character . The usual festive

MORECAMBE LODGE , No . 1561 . THE annnal picnic in connection with this Lodge was held on Thursday , the 1 st instant , the Lake District being again visited . The party , numbering about 40 persons , left Euston Road Station at 7 ' 30 a . m ., and arrived at Lake Side at 9 47 . A steamer was taken from Lake Side to Ambleside , lunch being partaken of on board . After driving from Ambleside to Patterdale , by way of

Kirkstone Pass and Brothers' Water , dinner was served at Patterdale Hotel . After dinner , time was allowed to visit the neighbourhood , which is noted for its grandeur ancl scenic beauty . The return journey to Bowness was by way of Kirkstone Pass , through Valley Troutbeok , and by Cook's House , Rayrigg . An excellent tea was

partaken of at the Stag s Head , Bowness , after which tho health of the W . M ., Bro . W . Wilson , and the Secretary of the picnic Committee , Bro . T . Baxter , was proposed by Bros . W . Duff P . M . and Dr . Waterson in eulogistic terms , and each of them responded . The health of Bro . Thwaites , of Bradford , was afterwards drunk , and in response , he said his Lodge at Bradford would this year celebrate its

hundredth anniversary ; it was their intention to invite many Masonic friends , and he promised a hearty welcome to any Morecam be brethren who chose to attend . At Lake Side the party indulged in a little boating , and then proceeded to Windermere , Morecambe being reached about 1015 p . m . Several photographic groups of the party were taken , and , the day being fine , the outing was most thoroughly enjoyed .

The Lodge waa opened in ancient form and with solemn prayer , and the minutes of the last regular meeting were read by the Secretary . The only business before the Lodge was the election of the incoming W . M ., the Treasure and Tyler , and on a ballot being taken , it was found that seven votes had been given to Bro . Watson and

six to Bro . Cowir . So tho W . M . declared Bro . Watson duly elecled . Bro . R . E . Cain and Bro . John Lanagan were re-elected Treasurer aud Tyler respectively , after whioh the Lodge was closed and the brethren adjourned for refreshment . The usual Loyal and Masonio toasts were proposed , Bros . Dr . Forshaw , Dr . Home and Ballautyne responding to tbo toast of the Visiting Brethren .

Brownrigg Lodge of Instruction . —The annual supper to mark the close of the season of this Lodge was held ou the 29 th nit ., at the Alexandra Hotel , Kingston Hill , where it has met now for several years with varied succesa but with undoubted benefit to those who have attended the meetings . Bro . W . Drewett P . M . 889 and 1638 P . P . G . S . B . was voted to tbe chair , with Bro . J . H .

Sumner opposite , and the company present included Bros . James Edgell W . M . 889 , A . Levy I . P . M . 889 , Abel Laurence P . M . 1638 Preceptor , W . H . Willis W . M . 1638 Secretary , T . Montague P . M . 1638 , H . A . Pettipter , A . Watkin Steward 889 , Pennington S . W . 1638 , W . Lane P . M . 1638 , and others : An excellent repast was provided by Bros . Curtis and Willie , and that over a few toasts were

proposed . In giving success to the Brownrigg Lodge of Instrnction , the Chairman sketched its history , reminding tho brethren that it was formed in 1879 , three years after the constitution of the parent Lodge , and carried on for some time by the late Bro . Buckland . Aftor a period of slumber and a removal elsewhere , the " school " foond its home at the Alexandra Hotel , where , by Bro . Matthews

tho late proprietor , and for some years now by Bros . Curtis and Willis , every kindness had been shown in the way of accommodation on the very best of terms as to tenancy . As to the usef nlness of the Lodge of Instruction , Bro . Drewett mentioned the names of many who had passed the chair in the Dobie and in the Brownrigg with greatest credit , and who had gained much of their knowledge

of tho ritnal by attendance afc tho Brownrigg Lodge of Instraction , and testified to the help he had received there in by . gone years . Eulogistic reference was then made to the long-continued labours of Brother Laurence , of whom it was that , whenever two or three were gathered together , he was to be found in tbo midst of them ; aud au expression of appreciation of services was

also given in respect of Bro . Willis , who acted as Secretary and Treasurer . Bro . Abel Lauren : o responded , and said he was amply repaid in watching his pnpils—as thoy wore pleased to call themselves , though he did not claim to bo a Preceptor proper—fill various offices in the Lodges near , and as long ns the meetings were held he should be pleased to continue to do aa he had done , so long ,

at least , as ho was able . Bro . Willis also responded , and after referring to the benefit he had received under Brother Laurence ' s tuition , ho said fchera was another feature iu connection with the Brownrigg Lodge of Instruction which bad escaped the Chairman ' s notice . It was this—that daring the last eight or nine years a sum of over £ 800 had been sent up to the three great Charitable Institu .

tions of tbe Order by the agency of the Benevolent Fund worked in conjunction with tho Brownrigg Lodge of Instruction . He thonght that was something to be prond of , aud , as he had worked oub the third scheme for obtaining Life Governorships in an easy way , he was anxious to start another for the benefit of younger brethren . Among tho other toasts was one in honour of Bros . Curtis and Willis , the proprietors of tbe hotel , of whose great kindness all who have

attended the meetings know well . Brother Curtis said he was pleased to see the brethren at their house , and so was his partner ; and the Brownrigg Lodge of Instruction should never want a home while it was conducted as it had been , and the Alexandra was in the same hands . Capital songs were given by some of the brethren , and recitations by others , the vocalists having efficient help at the piano from Bro . Paokington .

Metropolitan Lodge of Instruction . —Held at the Moorgate , 15 Finsbury Pavement , on 12 th inst . Present : —Bros . Ellioger W . M ., Fry S . W ., Roger J . W ., Price S . D ., Cook J . The Lodge was resumed to the first degree , when the dues were collected . Bro . W . M . Stiles Preceptor then proposed Bro . Fry VV . M . for the ensuing week , and the proposition was carried unanimously . Congratulations were then pasued to ' Bros . W . A . Scurrah aud Be . H «

Gurner answered the questions loading to the second degree in a

perfect manner ; Lodgo was opened in the second degree , aud Brother Gurner wns passed by the W . M . iu a very gratifying way . The Lodge was resumed to the first degree , when the dues were collected . Bro . W . M . Stiles Preceptor then proposed Bro . Fry VV . M . for the ensuing week , and the proposition was carried unanimously . Congratulations were then pasued to ' Bros . W . A . Scurrah aud Be . H «
