Wolseley Lodge, No. 1993.

the Provincial Grand Jnnior Warden , and the Provincial Grand Secretary Bro . John Chadwick , whose presence in the Wolseley Lodge is always looked upon with a great amount of pleasure by every brother of the Lodge . The Worshipful Master Bro . Wm . Harris was at his post , assisted by every ono of

his Officers , who did their work that evening , as they have always done , in a manner that called forth the heartiest appreciation on the part of the Provincial Officers aud visiting brethren , many of whom were Past Masters and Worshipf nl Masters of neighbouring Lodges . Bro . Holland answered the questions leading to the third degree in a

manner seldom equalled , thus giving evidence that his instructor had well done his work . After a few preliminary remarks , the Worshipful Master instructed the Deacons to hand round to the brethren the voting papers for election of Worshipful Master . After this was done , Bro . McKellen P . M ., in a neat and truly Masonic

speech , strongly urged upon the brethren present the important necessity of having a unanimous election , and referring in laudable terms to the services of the Senior Warden Bro . Thomasson . He con . eluded by remarking that he hoped the way in whioh Bro . Thomas , son had performed all the offices he had held would induce the

brethren to sink other considerations , and reward his ability by electing him Worshipful Master . One by one each of the brethren who were eligible for election withdrew their names , and then the Junior Warden , who is very popular in the Lodge , in the most magnanimous manner also withdrew his name . The Director of

Ceremonies then rose , and expressed the pleasure he felt at the conduct of tbe Past Masters and Junior Warden in the matter . Ho endorsed almost everything that had been said by previous speakers , and hoped that the election would prove unanimous , and that the Wolseley Lodge would still go on and prosper . The Worshipful

Master appointed Bro . Geo . Hunt I . P . M . and the Director of the Ceremonies , Bro . Henry Darbyshire , as scrutineers of the voting paperr , which , having been gone through , were declared to be almost unanimous . The announcement was received with great satisfaction by the Lodge . Bro . Thomasson returned thanks , and

hoped that the brethren would never have occasion to regret the honour they had conferred on him . The Director of the Ceremonies then asked the Worshipful Master to be good enough to vacate the chair and leave the Lodge , as it was his intention to make a proposition which should be discussed by the brethren , and , as it referred

amongst others , to himself , he felt that the Worshipful Master would feel more comfortable outside . The Worshipful Master bowed assent , and requested his Immediate Past Master Bro . Geo . Hunt to occupy the chair , and retired amidst the Masonic greetings of the brethren . Bro . Darbyshire then made the proposition , and , at the

suggestion of Bro . Past Master Hopewell , amended the same , whioh was read as follows : — " That Past Masters' jewels be presented to the three first Worshipful Masters of the Wolseley Lodge —namely , Bros . D . Edwards , G . Hunt , and W . Harris , and that a committee be appointed to consider and decide as to a special

design being got for the said jewels , the cost to be defrayed by the Lodge . " The proposition , in its amended form , was duly carried , and the W . M . re-entered the Lodge . In reply to the usual questions , the Secretary Bro . J . Hatton read communications , and two resignations from brethren , who , through circumstances which they

explained with regret , withdrew from the Lodge . The resignations were duly accepted . Hearty good wishes were expressed by the visiting brethren , and the Lodge duly closed at 9 p . m . The brethren then sat down to a well-provided knife and fork tea , put upon the table by the Lodge caterer , Mrs . Edwards . The usual Loyal and

Masonic toasts were gone through , and , the W . M . having passed the gavel to Bro . D . Edwards , that worthy brother proposed the health of the newly raised Bro . Holland , in such a manner as to call forth the applause of the brethren . Bro . Holland replied iu suitable terms . The toast of the Worshipful Master was proposed by Bro .

Darbyshire , and responded to by Bro- Harris . The toast of the Officers was then proposed , and with it was coupled the name of Bro . J . Hatton , the indefatigable Secretary of the Lodge , and this

highly respected brother responded to the toast . One of the most pleasant evenings ever held in the Wolseley Lodge—enthusiastic to a degree—was brought to a close by the Tyler giving bis toast a few minutes before eleven o ' clock .

Prudence Lodge, No. 2069.

PRUDENCE LODGE , No . 2069 .

THE regular meeting of this flourishing Lodge took place on Saturday afternoon , in the Masonic Hall , Great George Street , Leeds , when there was a large attendance of brethren . The W . M . W . Bro . the Rev . Dr . Smyth , Deputy Dist . G . M . Eastern Archipelago was supported by W . Bro . Mason P . M . P . P . G . Treas . S . W ., W . Bro . Tudor Trevor P . M . S . W ., W . Bro . William Watson P . M .

Secretary , Bro . Robert Abbott Treasurer , Bro . the Rev . H . S . Butler Chaplain , Bro . the Rev . J . E . Player S . D ., Bro . Scott Young J . D ., Bro . Atkinson ( in the absence of Bro . Theswell ) I . G . W . Bro . Craig P . M . P . P . G . D . acted as I . P . M . The Visitors included Past Masters from Leeds , Ripon , Halifax , and other Lodges . Bros .

Benjamin , Sykes , Bailey , and Lewis Howard were raised to the sublime degree by the W . M ., assisted by W . Bro . Mason . This beautiful ceremony was most impressively worked . Bro . J . Wilton Jones was afterwards initiated into the mysteries of Freemasonry by the W . M ., who received efficient aid from his two Wardens , and

from W . Bro . R . Craig . Hearty good wishes having been exchanged , the brethren and Visitors adjourned to " high tea , " at which a most enjoyable time was spent . Bro . Jones , in responding to the Initiate ' s

toast , bore testimony to the impressive manner in which the ceremony had been worked . He expressed the hope that he mi ght be able to live up to the high standard set by the mystic Craft , and that m his case Brother might mean more than a name .

PRINCE EDWARD LODGE , No . 2109 .

rpHIS new Lodge , which may be said to be an off-shoot of the -L Wolseley Lodge , No . 1993 , Manchester , consecrated so recently as the 23 rd of January this year—which event was duly reported in our issue of the 6 ch of February—held its meeting on the 10 th inst ., in the hall of the Conservative Club , Heaton Moor , near Manchester . The chair in tho east was occupied by Bro . Hopewell W . M .

of this Lodge and Past Provincial Officer of Bombay . The Senior Warden Bro . Webster and the Junior Warden Bro . Barton occupied the chairs in the west and south respectively . All the other Officers were in their respective places at the time set down for the commencement of bnsiness , and tho Lodge was opened in due

form and with solemn prayer by the W . M . at 6 . 30 p . m . The business on the agenda paper was a ballot for one joining brother , one initiation , two passings , and two raisings . The joining brother was unanimously elected . The initiatory ceremony was performed in an excellent manner by Bro . Past Master Eastwood . The

corner-stone address was ably delivered by Bro . Wells , who was initiated only about two years since in the Wolseley Lodge , but who now , with much credit , occupies the position of Senior Deacon in the Prince Edward Lodge . The working tools were very creditably explained by Bro . Barton , the Junior Warden . The Lodge was then

raised to the second degree , and the candidates having answered the questions , were entrusted . After they had retired , the Lodge was raised to the third degree , and the candidates were duly readmitted , and raised by the W . M . in a most impressive manner . Several important matters were discussed . Hearty good wishes

were expressed from the visiting brethren , and the Lodge waa closed in due form , and with solemn prayer by the W . M . at 10 . 30 . After the ceremony of initiation , the brethren were called from labour to refreshment , and sat down to a wellfurnished table , supplied by the Lodge caterer . There was a

very good attendance of brethren , who seemed to enjoy the splendid working of the Officers , and tho Visitors were unanimous in their expressions of the delight they felt in seeing this new Lodge so favourably launched . We would remark that , though the room in which the Lodge is now held is a very handsome one ,

complete as to its furnishing and acoustic properties , we are glad to learn that it has been decided by the Officers and members , in conjunction with the proprietors of the Hall , to build a special room in the grounds adjoining the Conservative Club at Heaton Moor for a Masonio temple . Owing to the pressure of the business of the

evening , the Worshipful Master had not an opportunity of again inviting the visiting brethren to the festive board , but very generously remarked that he hoped they would take an early day to revisit them , when he might have an opportunity of showing them that

the Prince Edward Lodge could , and would , entertain its Visitors to a sumptuous festive board , where they might regale themselves , like the Wolseley Lodge , with the " cups that cheer , bub not inebriate . "
