Quarterly Court Of The Girls' School

ns an amendment— " That a gratuity of £ 20 be given to each unsuccessful candidate who is prevented by the rules , on account of bor age , from applying for election . " Brother J . L . Hine ( Manchester ) seconded the amendment , which -was put and lost . Bro . Kuoker opposed the original motion , on the ground that it would require a machinery to be established to seo that the money

¦ would bo properly applied for the benefit of each of the twenty-five candidates . Bro . the Eev . A . F . A . Woodford also opposed , believing that it would debase Freemasons . The motion was put and lost . Bro . Binney moved ( for Bro . G . E . Webster P . M . 139 , Sheffield)— " Thatit is desirable that the Life Governors , the Subscribers , and others entitled to vote afc meetings of the General Court , should have the power of

voting by proxy ; and thafc all subscriptions , donations , legacies , and other moneys received by this Charity , which shall not be distinctly appropriated by the donors to the Sustentation Fund , shall be applied in maintaining , clothing and educating the children , and the surplus , if any , shall be invested in three per cent . Consols , in the names of trustees of the General Fund , which Fund and tho income thereof

shall not be applied for any other than the above-mentioned purposes . " Both these motions were lost . The Chairman then declared the poll open for the election of thirteen girls to the benefits of the Institution out of an approved list of forty-five candidates . The poll was kept open till three o'clock , and when the Scrutineers gave in their report at five o ' clock , the following was found to be the result : —

fPHE Quarterly Meeting of the Subscribers to the Eoyal Masonic - * - Institution for Boys was held on Monday , at Freemasons' Tavern , Col . Creaton presided . Bro . George Placknetfc was re-elected Treasurer . In the absence of Bro . G . F . Matior , Bro . J . L . Hine moved and Bro . Gladwell seconded " Thafc the Quarterly General Courts in January and July be held at four o ' clock in the afternoon , and that 29 be

j ^ w altered accordingly . " The motion was carried . The General Committee were re-elected with bub one alteration , Bro . Henry Wells of Aldershot to fill the place of tho late Bro . Henry W . Lmdus . A letter from Bro . S . B . Wilson , in reference to his dispute with the House Committee , having been read , Bro . Eaynham W . Stewart submitted that tho House Committee were iustified . as men

° t business , in not passing Bro . Wilson ' s account , unless he furnished them with detailed items . On the motion of Col . Burney , seconded by Bro . Parkhonse , a vote of approval of the conduct of the Committee was passed . The brethren then proceeded to elect 20 out ^ an approved list of 79 candidates to the Institution . At the declaration of the poll tho following was found to be the result : —
