EBRINGTON LODGE , No . 1847 . AT a very large gathering of the members , held on Tuesday , 12 th inst ., at the Ebringtoii Masonic Hall , Mohan-street , Stonehoiue . Bro . Wm . 0 . Hosking S . W . was unanimously eleo :. ed Worshipful Master for the ensuing year , amid general congratulations .
Bro . Nicholson P M . Treasurer was unanimously re-elected for the tenth occasion to that important office , while Bro . James Bartlott P . M . Tyler was also unanimously re-elected to that office . After the Lodge the Brethren adjourned to tho Refectory , where a very pleasant time was spent , speeches , interspersed with songs by various Brethren , being a most fitting wind-up to a very agreeable and successful evening .
SUFFIELD LODGE , No . 1808 . ON the evening of the 6 th instant the Brethren met at the Angel Hotol , North Walsharn , for the purpose of installing as Worshipful Master for tho ensuing year Bro . James Francis , and after tho ceremony was over he appointed the Officers . Lodge closed , a sumptuous banquet was partaken of , served in first-class style by Host and Hostess Ockelford .
LODGE OF TRUTH , No . 1458 . rpHE regular meeting was hold on Saturday , the 2 nd inst ., Brother E . M . JL Shepherd W . M . In accordance with the announcement made in our last report , the Lodge has changed its quarters , and is now located at the Mosley Hotel , Piccadilly , Manchester . The Brethren wert ) summoned for 5 p . m ., but circumstances had combined to throw the business considerabl y
later that that hour . In tho first place , the management had provided a room which was considerably at variance with Masonic requirements . We felt sorry for the W . M ., who was compelled , aftor due advice horn his Past Masters , to announce that under the circumstances it would bo impossible to perform the ceremony of passing Bro . It . B . Welch to the degree of F . C ., and this function was with his permission deferred .
Bro . Fred Hilton P . M . P . P . G . D . C , who prefaced his remarks by regretting that the inadequacy of arrangement had disappointed the candidate in his desire to make the requisite progress , explained that he , in conjunction with Bro . Chadwick Prov . Grand Secretary , and Bro . Abbott , another Provincial Officer , had interviewed tho manager of the Hotel , who
promised to put the room into proper condition until a new one , which it was intended to devote to Masonic purposes , was ready , and he could not understand how the mistake , which must have caused great annoyance to tho candidate , had arisen . Before sitting clown Bro . Hilton announced that a daughter of the late Bro . Wadsworth , of that Lodgo , had been successfully elected to the Royal Masonic Institution for Girls .
After the reading and confirmation of minutes , a ballot was taken for Worshipful Master , aud we are pleased to say that the choice foil upon Bro . Wm . Henry Worsley S . W ., who , in thanking the Brethren for the honour which they had conferred upon him , said that their confidence should not be misplaced , for he would try to perform his duties connected with tho position with that dignity and zeal which might be requisite .
In the matter of Treasurer , Brother Hilton desired to withdraw from the duties , as his engagements during tho ensuing year would probably interfere with his attendance at the Lodge , but under pressure he ultimately consented to accept the position , and was accordingly re-elected . Bro . Hyde was re-elected Tyler , and Bros . Burgess , Carr , and Hebden were appointed Auditors . The Lodge was shortly afterwards closed in peace and harmony , and the Brethren adjourned to tea .
We are always pleased to give a meed of praise when deserved , and must admit that the meal was put on the tables 'with very great nicety . The festive board followed , and here things wero not so satisfactory as with a little attention they might have been , for the Brethren wero kept
waiting an interminable length of timo before the Loyal and Masonic toasts could be commenced . At last everything was put into proper order , and the toasts were proceeded with , these being relieved by songs , & c , Bro . Worsley accompaning the former . The contributories to the harmony wero Bros . Carr , Worsley , Muller , Marr , Dean , Jackson , Hirsch , and Roberts .
Bro . Hilton proposed the health of the W . M ., saying that ho was well known as a genial , good-tempered , all round sort of man . Ho was searing the end of his term of office , but it could be said of him that he had satisfied all requirements . ' Bro . Shepherd W . M . responded , saying that he thanked Bro . Hilton for
the kind remarks which he had uttered about him . He had not done the work of the Lodge to his own satisfaction , mainly through an unfortunate circumstance which he explained . He thanked the candidate for waiving his right to be passed to the second degree , saying that the action was generous on his part .
Bro . Shepherd then proposed the health of the Worshipful Master-elect , expressing himself as delighted that tho result of the ballot had shown such unanimity in favour of Bro . Worsley . He hoped that ho mi ght have a prosperous year , with plenty of work , and that the G . A . O . T . U . would watch over him and give him strength to perform his various duties .
Bro . Worsley replied , saying that while in the Lodge he had felt so overwhelmed as scarcely to be able to express himself , but happily he had now recovered . Since his entry into Freemasonry , which had occurred in the Blair Lodge , he had been so struck and delighted with the ritual that it had been his ambition to attain something like a position . Ambition in sonic cases was not commendable , but when used for the purposes of Masonry it became a great and noble aspiration . Ho was aware of the fact that upon
the zeal of the W . M . depended the well-governing of a Lodge , and thought he would not speak egotistically , he might tell them that he should do Ins best while occupying the position to which they had elected him . If trying would command success it would be his , as he intended , if possible , by courtesy and kindness to the members , and by assiduity in the discharge of his duties , to obtain a fair measure of success . The Lodgo was in a prosperous position , and it had attained a maximum amount of success , this being partly duo to the efforts of Bro . Alfd . Hebden P . M . P . P . G . D . D . C . He looked with
confidence for the rendering of those services which the Past Masters wero always willing and able to give , and they , ktiowiug his anxiety to make his year of office a successful one , would , he felt assured , try to assist him . If ho had their co-operation failure was impossible . Bro . Buckley Carr P . M . proposed the health of the Visitors . He said the
toast was one proverbially so well received in Masonic Lodges , that it needed little from him to recommend it . On this occasion there was an importance attached to the toast , and he would like to do justice to it if possible , by associating the visiting Brethren with tho inauguration of their Lod ^ e meetings in that building . By their presence they were lending assistance to tho first meeting in what he supposed would bo the future home of the Lodge

bro . Worsley proposed tho health of the Past Masters , to which Bro . H . L . Uurgoss I . l' . lL replied . The toast of the Officers was given by Bro . Jas . Archdalo P . future . Bro . J . J . Dean I . G . responded . Besides those previously mentioned , there wero present : —Bros . Thos . H . Hall P . M . Sec , A . B . Taylor S . D ., L . Hirsch J . D ., M . Davies P . M ., G . H . Needle P . M ., Herbert Hellewoll , Arthur Leech , and others .
