WEST LANCASHIRE CHARITY .

A NUMEEOUSLY attended meeting of Brethren who have the arrangements in hand in connection with the forthcoming festival and ball , in aid of the funds of the West Lancashire Masonic Educational Institution , was held on the 8 th , at the Masonic Hall , Hope Street , Liverpool , under the

presidency of Bro . W . Eawsthorne P . M . 1182 . It was intimated by the Honorary Secretary Brother G . Broadbent P . M . 1013 that Bro . Dr . Crawford P . P . G . Treas . had accepted the position of Chairman of the Ball Committee , and he wrote expressing regret at bis inability to be present , in consequence of a professional engagement .

A letter was read from the Provincial Grand Master the Earl of Lathom accepting the position of one of the Patrons ; and

the Secretary also reported that communications to the same effect had been received from Bros . E . Wylie D . P . G . M ., J . D . Murray P . G . Treas ., W . Goodacre P . P . G . St . B . Prov . G . Sec , E . Segar P . P . G . W ., T . M'Wean P . P . G . D ., and several others . A long list of Stewards was adopted , and it was resolved

that a deputation should wait on the Lord Mayor at an early date , to ask for his patronage and for the use of the Town Hall The enthusiasm shown in connection with the arrangements

warrant the expectation that the festival of 1896 in Greater Liverpool will be one of the most successful which has ever been held in aid of one of the finest Masonic schemes in England *—" Liverpool Mercury . "

FORTESCUE ANNUITY FUND .

AT a meeting of the Committee , held at Exeter , arrangements were made for the election , which will take place at Plymouth on the 27 th inst . There are five applicants for the vacant annuity , viz ., from Lodges Nos . 39 , 797 , 666 , 1254 , and 156 . This fund is on the eve of extending its usefulness , says the " Western Morning News , " and it is hoped the Freemasons of the Province will give it liberal support .

rT ^ HE Deputy Provincial Grand Master of North and East I Yorkshire succeeded to the title of his father , Lord Bolton , on the decease of that nobleman , which occurred last week at Bolton Hall , Yorkshire . The deceased peer was born in London in 1818 , and succeeded his uncle , the second Baron , in 1850 .

He lived the life of a country gentleman , and took no part in public affairs beyond serving on the Bench . He married a daughter of the late Colonel Crawford , of Ayrshire , and had been a widower for the past thirteen years . He leaves three sons and a daughter .

BEO . Arthur W . Palk , a prominent citizen of Paignton , died on Friday , 25 th ult ., after a long and painful illness , at the comparatively early age of 43 . He was a P . M . of the local Lodge , and filled various public appointments in the town .
