Clemow , with his usual ability ai ; d taste , provided a really magnificent banquet . After dessert tho r-snal Loyal and Craft toasts were proposed from the chair and duly honoured . Bro . Cubitt rose ; he did not intend

Master paid a deservedly high tribute to the zeal , assiduity , and ability of Bro . Cubitt , who during his very successful year of office had ( loiio BO much to uphold tbe prestige of " tho Lodge , and to extend its usefulness . He felt perfectly certain that in his Immediate Past Ma-Ur he should find every assistance he might require in the
dis-( h .-. rpo of his onerous duties , and on behalf of the brethren he asked Bro . Cubitt ' s acceptance of a valnablo Past Master ' s jewel , whioh he had richly earned by his unwearying efforts for tho promotion and wr-Ifaro of tho Confidence Lodge . Brother Cubitt Immediate- Past Muster retnrned his very sincere thanks for the kind manner in which
the Worshipful Master had proposed the toast , and tho brethren for the cordiality with which had they received it , and also for the generous manner in which tbey had been pleased to vote him the handsome Past Master ' s j ^ wel on his retirement from the chair . He knf . w it had been an established custom in this Lodge to pay a
similar compliment to Masters when they retired from thafc position , and he had often heard them declare that when they received the jewel it was tho " happiest moment of their lives . " He was not going to follow those who had spoken in such terms , bnt he was very proud indied to receivo this jewel as a Past Master of tho Lod ^ e . The
W . M , in proposing the health of the Past Masters , said the toa 3 t was ono which involved a great amount of goodwill . They had a goodly number of Past Masters present that uh-ht , and he repeated that during the years he had been connected with this Lodge he had ever received from them the utmost courtesy , kindness , and "nod lhat the
feeling , being case he was only too pleased and happy to have tho opportunity of expressing his gratitude to them for the services they had rendered him . It was a great acquisition to a Master in the chair to have Pasfc Masters around him who were willing to sujport him and uphold him in the dignity of that position . Of course he considered the duties of the Mastership should be carried

out in a way thafc was becoming and dignified , combined with respect and good feeling , without which they could not have unanimity iu the Lodge . It should be his study to promote a feeling of goodwill amongst the members during his year of office , nnd especially to work in harmony with the Past Masters . Bro . Walter Wood said
the rest of the Past Masters had placed upon his shoulders the outy of responding to the toast . He could not but thank the company for the hearty manner in which the toast had been received . Every speaker had observed that it was too late to say cverythiug he had intended to say ; and with such excellent examples before him it
would be rash on his part to attempt a lengthy speech . Therefore , sheltering himself uuder their exense . * , he would merely say tho Past Masters of the Confidence Lodge had in the past done all iu their power to forward its interests , and nothing on their parts would be wanting in tho future in tbe same direction . Bro . Shackell ; briefly
replied to the toast of the Treasurer and Secretary . He had risen to respond to that toast a good many times during the 21 years he had been a member of this Lo Ige , and hoped to do so a good many more . He trusted he might be deserving of all the good things that had been said of him . The Officers of the Lodge came next , and on their

There was an unusually large attendance , including representatives of every Lodgo in the district . The ceromony was performed in a most efficient manner by

HPHE monthly meeting of this Lodge was held on Saturday evening , -A . 9 th inst ., at the Terminus Hotel , Cannon-street . Bro . Fendick W . M . presided , snpported by his Officers , several members aud Past Masters , and the following Visitors : —Bros . Otis ^ y W . M . 59 , J . Lingdon 1457 , J . Deacon 39 , A . J . Hudson 1627 . The minutes of the last Lodge having been read and confirmed , Bro . Fraser , a candidate for passing , was examined as to his proficiency and afterwards passed to the degree of F . C . Tho next business was to ballot for tho admission of Mr . Alfred Joseph Coleman ; this being unanimous in his favour and
he being in attendance , was impressively initiated into tho mysteries and privileges of ancient Freemasonry . Au appsal was made to the Lodge by a distressed brother , and a very handsome response was made to it by a contribution amongst the members . There being no further business , the Lodgo w . is closed , and an adjournment took
place to the dining hall , where a substantial dinner was served . Afc its conclusion grace having been said , the Worshipful Master remarked that as that was an off-night he should give tho enstomary toasts in a very brief and comprehensive form , which embraced tho Queen and tho Craft , H . R . H . the Prince of Wales M . W . G . M ., the
Pro and Deputy Grand Masters , and tho rest of the Grand Offices Past and Present . Bro . Baber I . P . M . said , that having assumed the Worshipfnl Master ' s gavel the brethren knew to what use ho should apply ifc ; this wa 3 to propose the health of the Worshipful Mast r . In doing so he should adopt his suggestion , arid that was to be very
brief iu tbe observations he should make in proposing the toast . There was no doubt that be had filled tho offijo with very great ability , and therefore he asked the brethren to drink his health wi h great ; cordiality , a request which was heartily responded to .
