ROYAL COMMEMORATION LODGE , No . 1585 .

A REGULAR meeting was held at the White Lion Hotel , Putney , on Wednesday , 5 th instant . Lodge was opened at 4 * 30 p . m . precisely . There were present Br < s . W . C Williams W . M ., Wing S . W ., Harding J . W ., Fayers acting S . D ., Oliver J . D ., Coombe I . G ., B > wler acting Tyler , Watkins Treasurer ; P . M . ' s Robinson Secretary , Collings Dir . of Cers ., Stacey Organist , Pardoe , and about

twentytwo other members . The visitors were Bros . Wingfield P . M . 1360 , Silcock S . D . 144 , Tucker 144 , Bass , Balls and Cory 865 , Turner 1767 . A ter preliminaries , Bro . Hague was raised to the sublime degree . Lodge was resumed , and Bro . Marshall was passed . A ballot was fc iken for Messrs . J . H . Morrisb and J . Cox , and ifc being unanimous

in their favour they were duly initiated into Freemasonry . Tbo whole of the ceremonies were carried through by fche W . M . in a manner which elicited the highest encomiums from the members and visitors . Some routine business having been transacted , the Lodge was closed iu perfect harmony nt 7 p . m . After discussing the good things

provided by tho host , Bro . Silcock , the Loyal and Masonic toasts were pit ! ily proposed and heartily accepted . The health of the W . M . was pr posed by Bro . Robinson P . M ., who complimented the Lodge on ha ing suoh an able Master and the W . M . on having such a prosperous and harmonious Lodge . Bro . Green sang " The Last Stirrup

Cup , and then the W . M . responded . The W . M . next complimented tho Initiates , remarking how fortunate tho Royal Commemoration Lodge had been lately in the quantity and quality of its initiates . Br ' . Price recited " Sal Grogan , " in a most pathetic manner , and th -n Bros . Cox and Morrish replied , the lafcter afc somo length ,

reie ring to the manner in which he had been impressed by the solemnity of the ritual and the forcible rendering of it by the W . M . To the toast of the Visio-a those named above replied . The health of the Past Masters was proposed . Bro . Howard sang " The Sprig

of Shillelagh , " and Bros . Robinson , Collings and Pardoe replied . The W . M . next gave the Officers , complimenting them on what they had done , and forcibly impressing npon them the necessity of attending Lodges of Instrnction . Bro . Williams commented on the small number who had availed themselves of his invitation to meet

him at the Royal Commemoration Lodge of Instruction on the previous Mouday evening . Bro . Knight sang " Mary Carey ' s Beau , " and then the Wardens and Senior Deacon responded . The Tyler ' s toaafc closed a very pleasant evening at 10 p . m .

KIRKDALE LODGE , No . 1756

THE annual meeting was held on the 28 th ult ., at the Skelmersdale Masonic Hall , Westminster Road , Liverpool , aud was without exception the most numerously attended Craft Lodge of the year , over forty W . M . ' s and P . M . 's being present , besides many other visitors and members . The Lodge has the largest number of contributing brethren of any at the North-end , and has been remarkable

since its formation in 1878 for its generous donations to the Masonic Charities . The chair was taken by Bro . R . T . Britten I . P . M ., in the unavoidable absence of the W . M . ( Bro . W . T . Warhurst ) , throngh severe illness , and he was supported by Bros . E . Johnston ( Father of the Lodge ) , H . Fergnsson

P . M ., R . B . Milton P . M ., H . Marshall P . M ., J . Grierson P . M ., 0 . Bargery P . P . S . G . D ., J . A . Kellie S . W . ( VV . M . elect ) , Joseph Molynenx J . Johnston

The brethren , to the number of 100 , afterwards dined together , and during tho evening a handsome P . M . 's jewel was presented to the I . P . M . Bro . VV . T . Warhurst ( whoso absence was feelingly alluded

to ) , by proxy , on behalf of the Lodge . A beautiful silver toa ancl coffee service , supplied by Bro . J . W . Morton , was also presented to Bro . J . Croxton , on behalf of the members , in recognition of his long and valuable services . The service during the installation was

fully choral , and au excellent musical programme was given after the banquet by Bros . Williams , Griffiths , J . T . Pugtnire , T . 0 . Fargher , and H . J . Nicholls , the conductor ancl accompanist iu both being Bro . George Eyton . The banqnetting-room was tastefully decorated by Messrs . Griffiths and Davies .

THE installation meeting was held on Saturday last , afc the Bnxton Hall . Dr . R . J . Griffiths was installed as W . M ., the ceremony being performed by Bro . J . H . Thomas . WILBERFORCE LODGE , No . 2134

fTIHE winter soiree and ball took placo in the Central Hall , Pryme--L street , Hull , on the 4 th instant . The large Hall had been t ^ tefully and artistically decorated for the occasion , and the proceedings , in which about 150 persons took part , were of the mosfc enjoyable and successful character . Dancing was commenced at

half-past eight o ' clock , under the direction of Bro . Jos . Strickland , M . C , and during the evening entertainments were given in the smaller hall adjoining by Bro . Vessey King , to whom belongs the chief credit of the excellent arrangements which were made for the comfort aud delectation of the brethren and visitors . Refreshments were provided in tha dining-hall , by Bro . Burdall .

EARL OF SUSSEX LODGE . No . 2201

A MEETING of the brethren of this Lodge was held at the Royal Pavilion , Brighton , on Saturday afternoon , 24 th ult . The Lodge was opened by the W . M . the Right Hon . Sir W . T . Marriott , Q . C , M . P ., who was supported by his Officers . The W . M . directed the Secretary to write to Mrs . Gerard Ford on behalf of himself and the brethren of the Lodge , and thank her for the handsome and

appropriate cover for tbe Lodge table , which she had kindly presented to the brethren . The Secretary reported that a die for the use of the Barl of Sussex Lodge had been presented by Bro . C . Bampfylde Warre , and the W . M ., on behalf of the brethren , tendered him their sincere thanks for the thoughtful present . Other business having

been transacted the brethren adjourned to the banqueting room , when they fat down to an elegant baiiqnefc served up in admirable style by Bro . Mutton , of King ' s Road , Brighton , who fairly excelled himself in his excellent catering . Tho VV . M . Bro . the Right Hon . VV . T . Marriott , Q . C . M . P ., presided , and gave the customary loyal

toasts , which were duly honoured . Brother Gerard Ford Depnty Prov . G . M . then rose and begged the indulgence of the brethren for making an alteration in the order of the toasfc list . Their W . M . was anxious to leave to catch an early train , in order that he might be able to start in tho morning for Egypt ; and Bro . Lord A .

Gordon-Lennox , the newly-elected Prov . S . G . W ., was also compelled to leave Brighton by the same train . He would therefore embrace the opportunity of coupling two toasts , ancl asking those present to drink the health of the VV . M . and the Prov . S . G . W . Their W . M ., he said , thongh soon to be absent from them , would in spirit be with

them . He then alluded in graceful terms fco the long association of the Duke of Richmond's family with tho Sussex Province . Bro . Sir VV . T . Marriott , in responding , said fche Deputy Prov . G . M . had " let the cat out of the bag . " He amusingly remarked that owing to decay and general break up he had been ordered abroad , and knew

that he had the sympathy of every brother present . Ho trusted to be back in a mouths time , fully prepared to carry out his duties in the Lodge . Bro . Lord A . Gordon-Lennox * , in acknowledging the toast , said he would endeavour to faithfnlly carry out the dnties of his new office . His family , as Bro . Ford had remarked , had been

connected with Sussex Freemasons for many years , and ho trusted the association would long continue . After the two distinguished brethren had taken their leave , Bro . Gerard Ford occupied the chair and proposed the Officers of Grand Lodgo Present and Past . Bro . Col . Shadwell Clerke Grand Secretary responded . The Officers of

Grand Ledge ( he wished to omit himself ) were Masons of acknowledged ability , who merited their high positions , and the Sns-cx Province possessed two notable examples in their Deputy Provincial Grand Master and their Provincial Grand Secretary . Bro . B . Letchworth P . G . Deacon proposed tho Provincial Grand Master of

Sussex H . R . H . the Dnke of Connaught . The toast , he said , always received a hearty response from the Brethren of the Province . They all o . teitained great respect nnd regard for H . R . H . tbe Duke of Connaught , who , thongh absent from the Province , was still actively engaged in promoting the interests of the Craft ns Prov . U . M . of

Bombay , and Grand Superintendent of that district . Bro . Colonel Shadwell U . Clerke proposed the Deputy Prov . G . Master Bro . Geraid Ford P . G . D . and the Officers of Provincial Grand Lodge Present and Pa t . Thongh unavoidably absent from England the Duke of Connaught , he said , placed the fullest trust in his Provinc al

Grand Officers , and he ( Bro . Clerke ) had excellent opportunities of witnessing the admirable manner in which they carried out their dnties . Better Provincial Grand Officers did not , he thought , exist in England . The Deputy Provincial Grand Master , Bro . Gerard Ford , was highly esteemed by all , and he trusted his health would continue to improve that he might ba able to carry out hia duties for

The large Hall had been t ^ tefully and artistically decorated for the occasion , and the proceedings , in which about 150 persons took part , were of the mosfc enjoyable and successful character . Dancing was commenced at

half-past eight o ' clock , under the direction of Bro . Jos . Strickland , M . C , and during the evening entertainments were given in the smaller hall adjoining by Bro . Vessey King , to whom belongs the chief credit of the excellent arrangements which were made for the comfort aud delectation of the brethren and visitors . Refreshments were provided in tha dining-hall , by Bro . Burdall .

EARL OF SUSSEX LODGE . No . 2201

A MEETING of the brethren of this Lodge was held at the Royal Pavilion , Brighton , on Saturday afternoon , 24 th ult . The Lodge was opened by the W . M . the Right Hon . Sir W . T . Marriott , Q . C , M . P ., who was supported by his Officers . The W . M . directed the Secretary to write to Mrs . Gerard Ford on behalf of himself and the brethren of the Lodge , and thank her for the handsome and

appropriate cover for tbe Lodge table , which she had kindly presented to the brethren . The Secretary reported that a die for the use of the Barl of Sussex Lodge had been presented by Bro . C . Bampfylde Warre , and the W . M ., on behalf of the brethren , tendered him their sincere thanks for the thoughtful present . Other business having

been transacted the brethren adjourned to the banqueting room , when they fat down to an elegant baiiqnefc served up in admirable style by Bro . Mutton , of King ' s Road , Brighton , who fairly excelled himself in his excellent catering . Tho VV . M . Bro . the Right Hon . VV . T . Marriott , Q . C . M . P ., presided , and gave the customary loyal

toasts , which were duly honoured . Brother Gerard Ford Depnty Prov . G . M . then rose and begged the indulgence of the brethren for making an alteration in the order of the toasfc list . Their W . M . was anxious to leave to catch an early train , in order that he might be able to start in tho morning for Egypt ; and Bro . Lord A .

Gordon-Lennox , the newly-elected Prov . S . G . W ., was also compelled to leave Brighton by the same train . He would therefore embrace the opportunity of coupling two toasts , ancl asking those present to drink the health of the VV . M . and the Prov . S . G . W . Their W . M ., he said , thongh soon to be absent from them , would in spirit be with

them . He then alluded in graceful terms fco the long association of the Duke of Richmond's family with tho Sussex Province . Bro . Sir VV . T . Marriott , in responding , said fche Deputy Prov . G . M . had " let the cat out of the bag . " He amusingly remarked that owing to decay and general break up he had been ordered abroad , and knew

that he had the sympathy of every brother present . Ho trusted to be back in a mouths time , fully prepared to carry out his duties in the Lodge . Bro . Lord A . Gordon-Lennox * , in acknowledging the toast , said he would endeavour to faithfnlly carry out the dnties of his new office . His family , as Bro . Ford had remarked , had been

connected with Sussex Freemasons for many years , and ho trusted the association would long continue . After the two distinguished brethren had taken their leave , Bro . Gerard Ford occupied the chair and proposed the Officers of Grand Lodgo Present and Past . Bro . Col . Shadwell Clerke Grand Secretary responded . The Officers of

Grand Ledge ( he wished to omit himself ) were Masons of acknowledged ability , who merited their high positions , and the Sns-cx Province possessed two notable examples in their Deputy Provincial Grand Master and their Provincial Grand Secretary . Bro . B . Letchworth P . G . Deacon proposed tho Provincial Grand Master of

Sussex H . R . H . the Dnke of Connaught . The toast , he said , always received a hearty response from the Brethren of the Province . They all o . teitained great respect nnd regard for H . R . H . tbe Duke of Connaught , who , thongh absent from the Province , was still actively engaged in promoting the interests of the Craft ns Prov . U . M . of

Bombay , and Grand Superintendent of that district . Bro . Colonel Shadwell U . Clerke proposed the Deputy Prov . G . Master Bro . Geraid Ford P . G . D . and the Officers of Provincial Grand Lodge Present and Pa t . Thongh unavoidably absent from England the Duke of Connaught , he said , placed the fullest trust in his Provinc al

Grand Officers , and he ( Bro . Clerke ) had excellent opportunities of witnessing the admirable manner in which they carried out their dnties . Better Provincial Grand Officers did not , he thought , exist in England . The Deputy Provincial Grand Master , Bro . Gerard Ford , was highly esteemed by all , and he trusted his health would continue to improve that he might ba able to carry out hia duties for
