initiation was ably and impressively performed by the VV . M . At the conclusion of the ceremony , Bro . G . L . Hart rose , and said he had been asked to undertake one of the most pleasing tasks he had ever been called on to do . It was to present to thi Lodge , subscribed for by every member of the Lodge , a most beautifully executed coloured

photograph of their worthy Senior Past Master , Bro . Stock , as a mark of tho very high esteem and regard in which he was held . It was in the year 1857 Bro . Stock filled the chair , and in the following

year was appointed a Prov . Grand Officer . In making the presenta . tion , he begged the W . M . to receive it on behalf of the Lodge , fco be held by them in perpetuity . The inscription below the portrait is as follows : —•

" Worshipful Bro . Henry Stock W . M . 1857 , Prov . G . Sup . of W , 1858 , Prov . G . J . W . 1887 . Presented to the Temple Lodge , No . 558 , by the Brethren , as a mark of the esteem in which they hold their Senior Past Master . December 1888 . " The W . M ., Bro . Dunk , then acknowledged and accepted the very

valuable gift , stating that the picture , which was a wonderful speci . men of the -art of photography , was the work of their esteemed Bro Clarke , of Church Street . Bro . Stock then rose , ond j with consider , able feeling , said : Worshipful Master and Brethren , —When you , worshipful sir , firsfc intimated to me the desire of the brethren to

present to my mother Lodge this valued token of their fraternal regard and esteem , I was filled with emotion ; indeed I can but now feebly express to you my deep inward feelings of gratification and pleasure that I shonld have been chosen as the first representative of that long array of worthy Past Masters whose portraitures may

some day grace the walls of this noble temple . And , further , I feel the great honour which will be accorded me of a place in close proximity to our Most Worshipful Grand Master , our Right Worshipful Provincial Graud Master , and to our old and esteemed Bro . Eastes his Deputy . I cannot disguise from you my feelings that

this last act of your kindliness may be somewhat in recognition of the fact that I , as your senior Past Master , for a long s ries of years fought nobly for my Lodge , and zealously endeavoured to keep together the frequently dying embers of the Temple ; neither can you fail to judge of my unbounded satisfaction at being permitted to see

it rise , like another Phcenix , from those ashes , to assume the very large proportions it now does . It will bo in the recollection of you all that only a few months ago I was presented by the Provincial Grand Lodge with the Jubilee Medal and the honorary rank of a P . P . G . J . W . I considered this as one of the greatest honours thafc

could be conferred upon a humble individual like myself ; bufc believe me , my brethren , that this honour even pales before the circumstance of to-night . My Brother Hart has kindly wished that I might be spared to be with you for very many years . This , in the ordinary courso of things , I can scarcely expect ; but I do ventuz-e to

hope that for some little time longer yet I may be permitted to be be with you , and to retain that fraternal regard , love , and esteem which I have already earned , so that in death I may not be forgotten . But whenever you gaze upon thafc picture ifc may elicit some passing

thought and a kindly word of one who went in and out among you , and of one who throughout his long life ever sought to maintain ancl practise those three grand Masonic principles of Brotherl y Love , Relief and Truth . Bro . Stock then resumed his seat amid the acclamations of the brethren , and the Lodge was closed .

LONDESBOROUGH LODGE , No . 734 .

a iHE installation of Bro . E . Mainprize took place afc the Masonic Hall , St . John ' s Avenue , Bridlinuton , on Wednesday , 5 th inst . The ceremony was performed by Bro . F . Greaser P . M . P . G . Standard Bearer . In the evening the banquet was held at the Britannia Hotel and was well attended , several visiting brethren being present .

EVERTON LODGE , No . 823 .

IT has hitherto been the custom of the Officers of this Lodo-e to organise an annual sea trip to the beautiful Welsh oinsfc , in aid of the Masonic Charities of the Province , aud in theso efforts the late Bro . T . II . Carefull P . M . rendered yeoman service . This year the "benefit" in aid of tho Charities took the form of a concert and

dance , which successfully came off in Rodnny Hall . The entertainment was under the control of Bros . W . Maddox W . M ., R . T . Britton J . W . who acted as Hen . Treasurer , and Edwin Kite S . D . as Hon . Secretary , whilo the general arrangements were entrusted to a cornpefcsnt body of Stewards . The artistes were Madame Gmefe

Ifc is understood that the mode of recognition will be by a banquet .

After the closing of the Lodge , the brethren dined together in their dining-room , under the chairmanship of Bro . Bilson and the newlyappointed officers . The usual Masonic toasts were duly hononred ,

and a pleasant evening was spent . During the proceedings in the Lodge , the Worshipfnl Ma-ter , in eulogistic terms , a-ked the Secretary ( Bro . Carlill Savill ) to accept a Masonic jewel , bearing fche following inscription :

" Presented to Bro . J . Carlill Savill , by Bro . H . Fawcett Pudsey , Worshipful Master 1010 , in recognition nf valuable services , on removal of Lodge to new Masonio Hill , 1888 . " Bro . Carlill Savill acknowledged the gift in suitable terms .

ZETLAND LODGE , No . 1071 .

THE annual banquet was held on the 5 th instant , at Bro . N . Bray ' s Commercial Uotel , Saltash . There was a large attendance . After dinner the W . M . Bro . W . R . Rawling gave the toast of the Queen and Cra't . The toast of the M . W . Grand Master of England H . R . H . the Prince of Wales , was proposed in eulogistic terms by the W . M . and was drunk with enthusiasm . The R . W . Provincial Grand Mister of

Cornwall Bro . the Earl of Mount Edgcumbe , the R . W . Provincial Grand Master of Devon Lord Ebrington , and the Provincial Officeis of Cornwall and Devon were proposed from the chair , ancl responded to by Bros . J . T . Brooking , W . II . L . proposed the health of the VV . M . Bro . W . H . Rawling . He felt sure Bro . Rawling would deserve the honour which had been conferred upon him . He had gone through the minor offices with credit to himself and to the Lodge , and he had no doubt that he would occupy the cha- ' r in the samo way . Bro VV . R . Rawling , in reply , thanked them

heartily for the way they hud received the toast . The I . P . M . of Lodge Zetland ( Bro . R . 0 . Revell ) was given by Brother R . Pearce , who presented Bro . Revell with a P . M . ' s jewel on behalf of Lodge Zetland . Bro . R . C . Revell responded . The medal , a very beautiful one , bore the following inscription : —
