Seo ., who was received with the usual greeting . After the routine business had been transacted , the ceremony of installing Bro . J . Tidmarsh aa W . M . for the ensuing year waa proceeded with , Bro . S . Meech acting as Installing Maater ,

M . Treasurer , W . A . Cooks Secretary , W . F . Field S . D ., C . Mead J . D ., J . Passmore I . G .. W . C . Hall P . M . Org ., Rev . E . C . Britton Chaplain , Foster D . C , W . Freemantle and T . Payne Stewards . A moat impressive delivery of the addresses
brought the ceremony to a close , and the first official act of the newly installed W . M . waa to present , on the part of the Lodge , to his predecessor a valuable P . M . 'a jewel , as a alight recognition of his faithful services during the past year . The I . P . M . briefly thanked the Lodge , and theu announced that the illuminated address voted to Bro . Earl Jersey had been forwarded to him , and a letter of thanks
received from his Lordship , whioh was ordered to be recorded on the minutes . The question of holding the usual ball for the Masouic Charities was quickly decided in the affirmative , and after " hearty good wishes " from a circle of distinguished visitors , fche Lodge was closed , and the brethren sat down to the banquet table , spread with much care and attention by Bro . Freemantle , whose efforts ia the 4 th
degree were highly appreciated . As usual , the programme waa a leugthy one , and like many othera of a similar character waa only half performed , especially aa regards the musical arrangements . Bros . T . Smith , Heathcote , L . Walker and Phillips , from Sfc . Mark's College Lodge , No . 2157 , were ready to give a choice selection of glees , but their aervicea were only requiaitioned once , when they
favoured the company with " Banish , 0 Maiden . " The usual Loyal and Craft toasts were proposed from the chair and duly honoured . That of tho Prov . G . Maater and hia Officera waa responded to by Bro . Howard Room Prov . G . Sec , who was just recovering from a bronchial affection , bufc was able to congratulate tbe W . M . upon the excellent working he had witnessed : especially was he pleased with
the ceremony of installation , which he had never heard excelled . The toaat waa acknowledged also by Bros . J . O'Connell W . M . 1851 P . G . Organiat ( Surrey ) , W . Seward jun . Treasurer P . P . G . S . B ., and W . C . Hall Org . P . G . S . B . In proposing the health of the W . M ., the I . P . M . said Bro . Tidmarsh had , both by merifc and ability , richly earned that honourable position , and be claimed from the members
of the Lodge loyal and hearty co-operation in making the W . M . ' s year of office happy and prosperous . Eton College . A very hearty reception waa accorded thoae viaiting brethren , and their repliea were unanimoua in three points , —thanks for the excellent hospitality , congratulations to the W . M . and brethren on the prosperity of the Lodge , and eulogising the I . P . M . for the splendid way in which he had worked the ceremony of installation . The W . M ., in proposing the toast of the last mentioned
in his double capacity , considered that the manner in which Brother Meech had performed hia onerous task that evening—for the first time—not only reflected great credit on himself , but honour on tho Lodge , and a high compliment fco him ( tbe W . M . ) Bro . Meecb , in responding , said that if he deserved the kind remarks passed upon him for his efforts , it waa because he was impelled not only by his
regard for the hononr and reputation of fche Lodge , especially in view of tho distinguished visitors present , aud also his long friendship and esteem for the W . M . The other toasts—the Officers , the Masonic Charities , and tbe Tyler ' s toast—were duly honoured , and tbe company separated , after one of the most pleasant and successful meetings in the annals of the Lodge , but not before they had complimented the host and hostess on their excellent cateriug .

M . then nominated his Officers . The banquet was catered for by Mrs . Chamberlain , of the White Lion Hotel , in her usual excellent style .

ON Wedceaday the 5 th inst ., the members held their installation meeting at the Guildhall Tavern , under the presidency of Bro . J . Perry Godfrey , the outgoing Master . This Lodge baa long been recognised as a Corporation Institntion , and although not exclusively , it is very largely composed of gentlemen engaged in Civic work . Sir . J . Monckton , fche respected Town Clerk , was the prime
mover in the foundation of the Lodge ; ho was the first Master , and with but ono exception only , we believe he has installed every succeeding Master , among whom have been several prominent members of the Court of Common Council . Sir J . Monckton again performed the installation ceremony this year , and did it in a moat

Worshipfnl Master . It was always a great pleasure to mere members of tbe Masonic body , and more particularly upon that occasion , when ho saw so many friends around him . He should never forget tbat it was entirely due to the manner in which tbe Corporation had honoured him in electing him Chief Magistrate tbat
he now enjoyed the distinction of being one of the Past Grand Junior Wardens of England . Allusion had been made to the death of the late Earl of Carnarvon , and he regarded it as a mosfc fortunate circumstance tbat a man who had so many claims upon mankind in general and the world afc large should have taken so much interest in
the Craft . He was convinced that all those who had been favoured with high office by the Grand Master were actuated by the earnest and anxious desire to promote the besfc interests of Freemasonry , while ifc was their united wish that it might prosper , and that for years to come its traditions might be handed down unimpaired .
Bro . Perry Godfrey ( fche Immediate Pasfc Master ) , in giving the health of the Worshipful Master , complimented Bro . Fitch upon the high distinction whioh the Lodge had conferred upon him in electing him fco the ohair . While they had men who , like Bro . Fitch , took such an interest in the Lodgehe was convinced that they must prosper .
, They hacl to thank tbo Worshipful Master for fche handsome regalia which he bad presented to tbe Officers of the Lodge . The Worshipfnl Master replying , stated that it was good fortune to have been initiated in the Alliance Lodge , and he regarded ifc aa no small honour to have been elected to tbe hi > h office he now held . them heartily for the hononr which they hacl conferred upon him , and ho assnred the members thafc no effort should be wanting on his part to justify the confidence they had placed in him .
