initiates , and he was afraid tbey conld not look forward , in these depressed times , to a similar amount of progress in the coming year At any rate , they had a very good balance in hand , and he did not want to remain long in possession of that money , in fact , at their next meeting he thought it wonld bo proposed that a portion of it should be given away to tho various Charities . Tho Lodge
hitherto had not sent up many members to tho different Charities as Stewards , but he did hope this year at least the three Charities wonld be represented . He thought that would be a very good beginning , and a good way of getting rid of some of the money in hand . There was no doubt tbey would have a few initiates , and their finances would be well kept np . With the
valuable assistance ho had received from their excellent Secretary , his duties bad been comparatively light , and ho could assure them tbey had been most agreeable . He hoped so long as tho G . A . O . T . U . spared him , which he trusted might bo for many years , he should continue to hold the office of Treasurer of the St . Martin ' s-le Grand Lodge , and that he might continue to enjoy , as he
believed he did at present , tho confidence of the brethren . Bro . J . Hookey , as Secretary , thanked tho brethren for tbe great kindness ho had at all times received at their hands . It was a great pleasure and honour to occupy the post ho now filled , and to find the Lodge in such a prosperous condition ns his worthy friend and coadjutor , Bro . Major Williams , had stated . They could not expect to
mako such progress next year as they had done in the past , and be did not think they wished to do so , as the Lodge now numbered fifty members , which was a good working number . Stephen's , Lewisham ) lending most valuable and efficient asssistance as accompanyist on the pianoforte . A noticeable feature of the entertainment was a humorous recitation by Bro . Hatch , entitled " Melancholy Mad , " which provoked roars of laughter . Altogether a most harmonious and agreeable evening was spent .

AMONGST the Lodges that have been consecrated since tbe doings of the Craft have been recorded in the pages of this journal , few have been more successful than the one now under notice . The Wpst Middlesex Lodge was inaugurated on the 15 th Jnly 1876 , the late Bro . John Hervey officiating as consecrating officer ; he had the assistance of Bro . Fenn P . G . D ., nnd Bro . Weaver ,
who respectively filled tbe Senior and Junior Wardens' chairs , while for the nonce Bro . H . G . Buss , Assistant Grand Secretary , with wonted ability , acted as Director of Ceremonies . The day was in all respects an auspicious one ; Bro . Hervey most enthusiastically directed attention to the brilliant future it was his opinion was before the Lodge . W . Bro . A . Beasley . P . M . of the Roval Alfred Lodge ,
No . 780 , was installed the first W . M ., and so ably did he conduct tho bnsiness of the Lodge , that , at the conclusion of his year of office , he was unanimously re-appointed Master . In due course he was succeeded by Bro . Thomas Ivngston , who filled tho chair in 1878 , this brother made way for Bro . H . L . Kasner ; while Bro . A . J . Burr , who has ruled during the past year gave place ou Saturday to Bro .

Throughout its career the Lodge has been recognised as a pattern one ; every regard has been paid to the ceremonies being conducted with dignity , and strict attention has been given by its Officers to make themselves proficient for their duties . Bnrr , who warmly supported the proposition that £ 5 should be voted from tha Benevolent Fund of the Lodge . This was unanimously agreed to , and after greetings Lodge was closed . The banquet was served at tbe
Lvric Hall , which thanks to the enterprise of Bro . Delevanto and others in the neighbourhood , will doubtless be a great acquisition to the residents of Ealing . The alterations are not com . pleted , but sufficient has already been done to enable us to judge of the advantages we may look forward for . On the removal of the
cloth , tbe toasts were duly honoured . The proceedings throughout were of a very harmonious character . Bro . Delavante , as usual , had provided a host of talent ; and special thanks are due to him , his daughter , his son , and to Bro . Hambleton , for tho successful efforts they made to entertain the company . Bro . Jones gave a capital read , ing , which was justly appreciated by the brethren .

Tbe Worshipful Master proposed the health of the Pro Grand Master the Earl of Carnarvon , the Earl of Lathom , and the rest of the Grand Officers of the Graud Lodgo of England . Bro . Stonor P . M . then rose ; he had great pleasure in taking the gavel for the purpose of proposing the toast of the W . M . The
brethren had witnessed his working , and were satisfied with it . The W . M . in reply wished to say that he was pleased to see so many present . He was proud to say he hoped to have the co-operation of the old members , and that in futnre they might meet as they had already done , and thus render this Lodge one of " union " in reality . The toast of the Visitors was next given . Tha W . M . said the members
were pleased to see them . He would call on Bros . R . Baker W . M . 188 , Pare 185 , and H . M . Levy P . M . 188 , to respond .
