AT tho regular meeting of this Preccptory , on Tuesday last , tho E . Preceptor Sir Knight T . B . Whytohoad read a lengthy and interesting paper on tho History of the Order of the Temple , especially as regarded tho City of York , endeavouring to trace out tho early links connecting the Order with that of Freemasonry .

INTERESTING TORPEDO EXPERIMENTS

A MOST interesting series of experiments in tho science of warfare is announced to tako place off the East Cliff , St . Lawrence-on-Sea , near Eamsgato , during this month . Those experiments will be conducted nnder the nianagomeut of Mr . Michael Boyton , late U . S . N , ( well-known in connection with tho direction of the exhibitions of hia brother , Bro . Captain Boyton ) , who will have tho assistance of somo

of tho leading scientific authorities on the subject . Tho demonstratious will consist of both clay and night displays illustrative of actual operations in torpedo warfare , offensive and defensive . They will include an attack on , defence ancl destruction of an iron clad fleet , constructed of sloops ancl boats of dimensions sufFicient to demonstrate effectively the value and destructive

force of tho explosive engines , and tho facility with aud dis . tauces at which they may be worked with safety to tho operator . Tho event promises to be no less interesting from a scientific point of view than imposing from the magnitude of the many original and spectacular effects designed to give it a framework . The demon , strations are fixed for Thursday , 20 th inst . at 11 o ' clock a . m ., and 9 p . m .

Bro . W . Hyde Pullen P . G . S . B . -will officiate as Installing Master at the Installation Meeting of the YarTborough Lodge , No . 811 , to be held this day at the Royal Pavilion , Brighton .

E . W . Bro . Sir W . Wyndham Burrell , Bart ,, M . P ., who was installed as P . G . M . in June last , will preside at tho meeting of the Provincial Grand Locige of Sussex , to be held on Tuesday next , at the Eoyal Pavilion , Brighton .

Early next month , a now Mark Lodge , to be known as the St . Wilfrid Locige of Mark Master Masons , will be consecrated at Alford , Lincolnshire , by E . W . Bro . John Sutcliffe , Grand Mark Master Mason of that Province .

We arc authorised by Grand Secretary Bro . Binckes to announce that the Grand Lodge of Mark Master Masons for England and Wales , and our Colonics ancl Dependencies , has been formally recognised by the Supreme Grand Eoyal Arch Chapter of the United States . This , in tho
