was a particularly good Officer , looking after the finances of the Lodge with the greatest of care , and managing their affairs in such a way as to be able to hand over this year a much larger balance than any previously known in the Lodge . Of the Secretary he could not speak in too enlogUtio a manner . He was second to none , and hod been of great service in the Lodge . He attended to every part of his hot he abilities

duty in a satisfactory manner , but beyond ( possessed others did not enjoy , inasmuch as he was ablo to entertain them nt their festive board in a manner that would put many professionals in the shade . Past Master M . A . Molnerny was the first to respond . One ol the most pleasing duties afforded to the Past Masters was that of acknowledging tho toast proposed on behalf of the former Masters .

It had always afforded binr great pleasure to respond , but he had especial pleasure in doing so on that occasion , when they had in the ohair a brother with whom he was well acquainted , and whose oha . ract ? r he fully appreciated . He al ? o expressed the pleasure he felt in seeing so many old friends round him , brethren ho bad known in Gibraltar and elsewhere . Bro . H . Gardiner P . M . also spoke , aud fully endorsed the words of

Bro . Molnerny . Bro . G . Cook P . M . Treasurer felt that the Warrant Officera Lodge had been as unique in it * Treasurers as in its Secretary . ' aa the brother who preceded him in the office was a brilliant light in Masonry . He referred to Bro . J . Lewis J . W . Bro . W . P . Cheosman P . M . acknowledged the toast as Secretary ,

thanking tho Master and members of the Lodge for the reception they had accorded him . He had the honour of beiug their Secretary from the foundation of the Lodge , and ho accepted tbe position most willingly and heartily . He also thanked them for the very kind way in whioh they had referred to his efforts as an entertainer , and assured them he was ready and willing nt all times to amuse them

when opportunity offered , and convenient for tbe members to listen to him . The toast of the Officera was next given , and responded to by Bros . 0 . A . Pugh S . W ., J . Lewis J . W ., W . A . Bailey I . G ., H . B . Dickins Asst . Dir . of Cer ? ., and J . D . Lidbury Steward .

Bro . J . T . Simmons presided at the piano , and Bros . J . Hitching , H . Gardiner , A . J . Wilson , J . B . Short , J . A . Romain , W . J . Boyle , G . Cooke , and W . P . Cheesman contributed to the harmony during the evening . Tho Tyler's toast brought the proceedings to a happy conclusion .

THE fouith installation meeting was held on tho 27 th alt ., at the Masonio Rooms , Royal Hctof , Cadoxton-Barry , and was largely attended . Tho Lodgo having been opened , and the Worshipful Master elect ( Bro . T . Higmau ) having been presented by Brother Marmaduke 'Pennant D . P . G . M . to the Iutfcalling Master , tho

ceremony wns impressively performed by Bio . J . J . Williams W . M . of the Lodge , assisted by Bro . George Thomas P . M . Tho new W . M . invested his Officer ? , and the Lodge was olosed . An interetting presentation wns made to the retiring W . M ., who was made the rec i pient of a Past Master's jewel in gold , a gift from the Lodge as

token of esteem and regard of the members , and also of their high appreciation of the ability he had shown in his conduct in the chair dnriag the past twelve months . In the evening the annual installation banquet was held at the Royal Hotel .

Fidelity Lodge of Instruction , No . 3 . —Held at the Prince Alfred , Roman Road , Barnsbury , on Wednesday , 11 th inst ., Bros . Spooner W . M ., Young S . W ., Underbill J . W ., Ferguson Preceptor , Gregory Secretary , Beveridgo S . D ., Edmonds J . D ., Atkinson I . G ., Messor , Hanes . Lodge opened to the second degree . Bro . Beveridge

answered the questions , was instructed and raised . Lodge resumed and ceremony of initiation worked . Bro . Hanes candidate . Bro . Edmonds proposed Bro . Spooner , W . M . elect of the Cricklewood Lodge , as a member , and he was admitted . Bro . Young was elected W . M . for the ensuing week , and the Lodgo was closed .

Sympathy Lodge of Instruction , No . 483 . —A new Lodge of Instruction has recently been established at Gravesend under the banner of the Lodge of Sympathy , No . 483 , which bids fair to become successful . It is held at the Star Hotel , Porrock Street , in the centre of the town and very convenient for tbe members . The furniture has been presented by various brethren , so that

the Lodge starts free from debt or any liability . Thns Bro . A . Ronaldson P . M . gave the Volume of the Sacred Law , the Sqnare , Compasses and Cushion ; the three pedestals were presented by Bros . T . T . Hogg S . W . and C . Matthews ; the rough ashlar by Bro . J . P . Moore P . M . ; the perfect ashlar , with tripod and crane , a handsome piece of workmanship , by Bro . R . West S . D . ; the Columns by Brn . J Willisthe

. N . ; general decorations by Bro . W . J . Hay ward P . M ., and a fine box of working tools by Bro . Watts . There are also collars for the Officers and aprons for the three degress together with a useful set of tracing boards . The Lodge has secured an excellent Preceptor in Bro . Henry Forss P . M . P . Z ., and the ceremonies end ritual will be conducted on tho lines of the Lodge of

sublime degree by Bro . Selby , the working tools being presented by Bro . Lingard . The traditional history was afterwards given by Bro . Hebden . Tho names of four brethren were announced who were desirous of becoming members , viz ., Bros . Harry Barber and Archibald Longworth , Lodgo 10 S 3 , Thomas Henry Stott 121 . 9 , and William Allen Smith 877 .

THE annual meeting of the Grand Chapter for the Province was held on the 10 th inst ., ati the Masonic Hall , Barnstaple . The arrangements for the reception of the visitors—this being the first time the P . G . Chapter had visited Barnstaple—gave every satisfaction . Lord Ebrington P . G . Supt . occupied the throne , and jwas ably supported .

The Prov . Grand Treasurer ( Comp . A . J . Truscott ) reported that the dues amounted to £ 89 , and after payments to the Masonic Charities and the ordinary expenses there was a balance in hand of £ 48 12 s , although they began with a balance of £ 41 14 s 5 d .

On the proposition of Comp . tho Rev . Dr . Lemon , seconded by Comp . J . Leonard , the balance sheet was adopted . Comp . W . Allsford moved that £ 10 10 s be voted to the Devon Educational Fund .

Comp . J . Lee lard seconded . The P . G . Matter said ho was under tho impression that some years ago tho Grand Chapter passed a resolution to give £ 5 5 s annually to the Devon Masonic Educational . Fund , find no more .

The P . G . S . said the vofe of five guineas to the two funds had to be paid in any evcut . Com p . W . G . Rogers then proposed that a similar contribution be paid to the Devon Fortescue Annuity Fund .

Comp . Lord seconded , and ifc was carried with acclam-. afcion . Comp . Lord nominated Comp . W . Allsford 202 as P . G . Treasurer , remarking that he had been an Arch Mason for over twenty-eight years , and bad done yeoman service .

Comps . Gregory , Brewer , and Crabb supported . The nomination was accepted with enthusiasm . On the proposition of Comp . Frank R . Thomas , Comps . L . R . Lord and J . W . Cornish , of Plymouth , were appointed Auditors .
