PECKHAM LODGE OF INSTRUCTION , No . 1475 .

THE brethren of the above Lodge assembled at the Lord Wellington Hotel , 516 Old Kent-road , on Wednesday evening - , Bro . Cowly having been voted to the chair as W . M . Bros . T . D . Hilton S . W ., Stone J . W ., Page S . D ., J . J . Brinton I . G . The ceremony of passing was rehearsed , after which the sections of the second lecture were worked by Bro . Preceptor Eose P . M . and Bro . F . Hilton , who

were ably assisted therein by the brethren . Lodge was then closed in dne form . Afterwards some bnsiness appertaining to the Masonic Charities was transacted . Bro . J . T . Scotts , the esteemed host , intimated that as he had reached the fifty-sixth anniversary of his natal day , if the brethren consented it would afford him much pleasure to take wine with them . This was assented to by Bro .

Preceptor Bose P . M ., who iu feeling and graceful terms proposed the health of Biro . Scotts , who for a long series of years had been associated with the Lodge , and who had , moreover , striven to do all in his power to render them comfortable . In proof of this , the room which they then occupied was an instance . Without being accused of flattery , he could assert that Bro . Scotts was respected by all who knew him ,

for his excellencies and sterling worth . They , one and all , wished him many happy returns of tho day , and expressed a hope that the great Architect of the Universe wonld shed His benign influence around him , and all those near and dear to him likewise . He having been heartil y pledged , Bro . Scotts acknowledged the compliment in concise bnt appropriate terms . Ho assured the -brethren that he reciprocated

their kindness , and would on all occasions endeavour to promote the interests of tbe Lodge and the comfort of tho brethren . Bro . Eose Preceptor stated that Bro . Bracogirdle was about sailing once more for China , ancl therefore lie would call on the brethren to drink to his good health , coupling therewith their hearty good wishes . Many years wonld elapse ere he could hope to retnru to his native country , and therefore , in the midst of those who knew but little or nothing

about their Order , he hoped that he might prove to them in all his dealings that Freemasonry was something more than a more name . The toast was received with enthusiasm . Bro . Bracogirdle made a feeling speech in reply . Bro . W . 0 . Page sang " Many happy returns Of the day , " and other brethren also favoured with some excellent Songs . ^ The harmony was maintained for somo considerable time , fraternisation not being allowed to flag for a single moment .

Peckham Lodge Of Instruction, No. 1475.

Tho Earl of Kimberley , accompanied by the Countess and Lady Constance Wodehonse , returned to town , for tho season , on Wednesday . Tho Earl and Countess of Bectivo have returned to Westmoreland from a visit to Headfovt House , Meath .

•Tho Princo of Wales was represented at the funeral of tho late General Macdonald by Mr . A . Pepys Cockerell , one of his grooms of tho bedchamber . Sir 11 . Bateson Harvey ' s harriers mot at Guy ' s House , Holyport , on Tuesday , and had fair sport in tho neighbourhood of Bray , Fifield , and Ded worth .

Tho Prince and Princess of Wales have accepted an invitation to bo present at a Ball , to be given on or about tho 15 th of February , by the Honourable Artillery Company , of which His Eoyal Highness is Colonel and Captain-General .

Tho Eight Hon . J . G . Dodson left town on Wednesday for Conyboi'ough , near Lewes . The Marquis of Hartington , M . P ., who attended tho Cabinet Council on Satnrday , left town on Tuesday evening for his seat ab Holker .

Earl Granville has been staying at Walmer Castlo since Tuesday . The Countess of Eosebery and her infant son aro both progressing most favourably . Lord Leigh presided at a special meeting , on Wednesday , of tho supporters of the North Warwickshire hounds , when it was agreed to continue the practice of advertising the fixtures for the various meets .

The accouchement of Her Eoyal Highness the Duchess of Connaught , who is residing at Bagshot House , may shortly be expected . Tho Lord Mayor aud Sheriffs attended Divine service in State , at St . Botolph's , Bishopsgate-street , on Sunday last , on the occasion of the unveiling of two new windows representing tho " Last Supper , " and " St . Paul preaching to the Athenians on Mars' Hill . "

On Wednesday the Lord Mayor visited the Marquis of Exeter , at Burghloy House , Stamford , returning to the Mansion House the day following . Monday being Plough Monday , tho Lord Mayor held a court of Wardmote , in tho Aldermen's Chamber , Guildhall , when the Town

Clerk , Sir J . B . Monckton , reported tho returns from tho different Wardmotes for tho election of Common Councillors . The City Marshal , tbo Guildhall nnd Mansion House Officers , the Ward Beadles , and tho Constables of the different markets were subsequently sworn , in as usual .

At a meeting , on Monday , of the Nottingham Town Council , a letter of condolence was ordered to bo sent to the Duke and Duchess of St . Albans , on the occasion of the death of Mr . Bernal Osborne , the Duke's father-in-law . A suitable address to the Duke of Albany on his approaching marriage was also agreed to .
