GLEANINGS .

The Freemason , Syduey , saja : —An enlarged photo of the Masonic Hall , Castlereagh Street , is to be included in the group of architectural views of Sydney for the Chicago Exhibition . Bro . Chief Justico Way , Pro Graud Master of South Australia , states as his

opinion that this templo is much superior to that iu Boston , which is considered to bo in tho first rank of Masonic Temples in America . The photo will , we think , surprise our American cousins—some . Canadian Craftsman .

Freemasonry is tho most ancient of all societies , and notwithstanding it has had ( like all other human institutions ) its difficulties to contend with , aud there have been those among Freemasons who have fallen from tbo path of rectitude , yet tho principles of tho

Fraternity are so sound , tho great landmarks so well defined , that it has been , is , and ever will bo an impregnable fortress . It cannot fail , because it is founded on the truths of Holy Writ . — Grand Master Ovas .

The Masons' Hall in the city of Richmond , Va ., the corner-stone of which was laid in 1785 , and which was not completed until 1791 , ia still standing and used for Masonic purposes . In it the Grand Lodge of

Virginia held its annnal meetings for moro than eighty years , and within its walls have sat some of the most famous men this country has produced . It is probably the oldest Masonic building now standing in the United States . —Masonic Advocate .

Freemasonry in its form of government is at once an ideal republic and an ideal monarchy . Its republicism is only equalled by its absolutism . —Canadian Crafturnan . Men are every day saying and doing , from tbe powor of education , habit and imitation , that which has no root whatever in their serious convictions .

A religion that never suffices to govern a man will never suffice to save him . That which does not distinguish him from a sinful world will never distinguish him from a perishing world . MASONIC CLOTHING . —It is not proper for the Officers of a Lodge to

wear their jewels or Masonio clothing at the burial of a doceaaed brother . "Masonic dross" is all that is permissible , unless a dispensation is granted hy the Grand Master , which , however , is not customary .

Every good aud holy desire , though it may lack tho form , hath iu itself the substance and force of a prayer with God , for he regards aa prayer the moaniugs and sighings of tho heart . Ax OLD MASONIC CUSTOM . —Mrs . Harlem— " So tho Arabiaus go to
