beloo" the Apollo University Lodge , and from them we gather thafc Bros . ' HercuIes Durham , Rev . Robert Markham , D . D ., and Rev . Jas . Wood , M . A ., were the first W . Master , Senior Warden , and Junior Warden respectively . It met , in the first instance , at the King's Head , Cornmarkefc , and towards the end of 1771 removed to the $ eW Inn , Fish-street . In 1772 a medal was approved of , and it ; ;

was ordered that forty of these shonld be struck off for the use of the Lodge . Only one known impression of this remains , and that was purchased by the Apollo University Lodge in 1881 . The Lodge appears to have taken a prominent part in raising the Grand Lodge Hall in Great Queen-street , the brethren being present on the n / .-maion in academic costume , and an ode , composed by one of its [ »

members , being sung . In this Lodge as many aa 103 brethren were initiated , and 32 joined its ranks from other parts . The Constitution Lodge , No . 396 , was warranted 17 th March 1770 , and continued to meet np to 1 st August 1788 , when the minutes and the Lodge " may be presumed to have collapsed . " In it were initiated thirty-three brethren , and there were five joining members . ' '

There were , in addition to these , the following Lodges warranted by the " Ancients , " and of these only one survived the Union of 1813 , havinsr , however , since succumbed . These were No . 132 , at the Ram , Chipping Norton , warranted 5 th June 1771 ; No . 180 , the Starr Cross Inn Lodge , Oxford , warranted 26 th February 1773 , and re-warranted 2 nd April 1792 ; No . 185 , Crown , Bicester , warranted

Thus nine Lodges have at different times been established in Oxfordshire , which have doubt .

less done good service on behalf of the Craft , but which are now no longer in existence . The rest of Bro . pecially as it is supplemented by particulars respecting the good things done by the Province in aid of our Charitable Institutions . In fine , the work has been most carefully compiled , and Bro . Hawkins may congratulate himself on having had fche services of so able a t ypographer and publisher to reproduce his brief , bufc valuable , contribution to Masonic history .

Tlie Treasury of Scripture Knowledge . Consisting of Five hundred tbou « and Scripture References and ParaNed Passages , with numerous illustrative notes . Arranged to suit all editions of the Holy Scriptures . London : Samuel Bagster and Sons , 15 Paternosterrow .

THE firm of Bagster and Sons is so well known for the merits of their several publications in the way of Bibles and Biblical annotations , that it is hardly worth while to lay any especial stress on the issue of their present volume . Yefc ifc iaso well compiled , tbe notes , whioh are concisely written , bufc without undue elaboration , are so clear

and so full of the necessary information , that , in spite of its being a rejigious work and therefore outside the legitimate scope of a Masonic journal ' s notice , we do not hesitate to express a most favourable opinion of its contents . We have looked carefully through its pages , and we have come to tbe conclusion that it will prove a worthy addition to the library of every student of Biblical Literature .

Afc a Special Provincial Grand Lodge meeting of the Mark Master Masons of North Wales , held on the 5 th inst ., at the Masonic Hall , Llandudno , Bro . Capt . C . Hunter P . D . G . M .
