PEOYINCIAL

McVey , and J . Paul for their kindness in working the different sections for those Brethren who were unavoidably prevented from attending , also to the other Brethren who worked the different sections in such perfect and faultless manner . To this the S . W . and several others responded . Several Brethren were elected members . This Instruction Lodge meets every Friday , at 8 o ' clock , at the Waterloo Arms , Bro . G . Wood P . M . being the Preceptor .

ROYAL SUSSEX LODGE , No . 53 . rjlHE annual installation festival took place on Monday , 7 th inst ., at the I Masonic Hall , Old Orchard Street , Bath . Amongst those visiting the Lodge was Bro . B . C . Else D . P . G . M . Somerset . The installation ceremony was performed by the retiring Master Bro . P . K . Stothert , and at its conclusion the newly installed W . M . Bro . F . H . Milsom invested his Officers .

The business of the evening being ended , the Brethren adjourned to dinner in the dining hall .

PHOENIX LODGE , No . 94 . THE annual meeting was held in the ancient Freemasons' Hall , Sunderland , on Wednesday , 2 nd inst ., additional interest being lent to the occasion by the unique circumstance that the new Master would be installed by his father . Quite a large assembly of Brethren from the local Lodges were present , and many from the surrounding towns and the Province of Northumberland .

Bro . Thomas Olman Todd W . M .-elect was presented fco the Installing Master ( Bro . J . D . Todd P . M . P . P . G . S . B . ) , for the benefit of installation , which ceremony was conducted in a most impressive and efficient manner , after which the new W . M . invested the Officers . At the conclusion of the Lodge a banquet was held at the Palatine Hotel .

MARQUIS OF GRANBY LODGE , No . 124 . THE celebration of the festival of St . John the Evangelist , always an event of considerable interest to Freemasons generally , says the "Newcastle Journal , " was especially so to the members of this Durham Lodge , on Tuesday , 1 st inst ., when there was a record attendance in connection with the festival of the Lodge .

The cause , perhaps , was not far to seek . The popularity of Superintendent Isaac Burrell has been manifest from his very initiation to the office of W . M . a year since , as indeed it was before , and his year of office has been one of the happiest , pleasantest , and most successful from every point of view , especially in the multiplication of members , known in connection with the history of the Lodge .

At the Lodge on Tuesday night there were upwards of a hundred Masons present , including a number from other Lodges , who assembled to do honour to the W . M . who had so worthily sustained the reputation of the office to which he was elected twelve months before . The Bev . J . Haworth P . P . G . C S . W . was elected to succeed Bro . Burrell in the office of W . M ., and the election of Bro . Haworth , who is Principal of the Durham Diocesan Training College for Schoolmistresses , is no doubt a very popular one .

At the conclusion of the business portion of the proceedings the usual festival of St . John the Evangelist was held in the banqueting room of the Masonic Hall , Old Elvet , now rapidly becoming an historic building in connection with Masonry . The company sitting down was larger than on

any previous occasion remembered in connection with the festival , and tho catering , which was carried out under the superintendence of the W . M . and Bro . J . Smith P . M . P . P . S . G . D ., was everything that could be desired , and reflected the greatest credit on those concerned . The tables presented an attractive appearance , and the cuisine was excellent .

The retiring W . M . Superintendent J . Burrell presided , and he was supported by Bro . B . Hudson Provincial Grand Secretary and others . The usual Masonic toasts were heartily pledged and a most successful and enjoyable evening was spent . The harmony of the evening was specially provided by the Durham quartette , consisting of Messrs . Nutton , Duncanson , Macdonald , and Jackson , of the Durham Cathedral choir , whose singing was highly appreciated and much applauded .

Bro . M . Fowler , M . P ., has been re-elected Treasurer of the Granby Lodge , and Bro . W . Grabham Tyler .

LODGE OF TRUTH , No . 521 . rpHE installation took place at Fitzwilliam Street , Huddorsfield , on JL Friday , 4 th inst ., when , despite tbe very bad weather , eighty-one members and visitors were present . Bro . John Davis was duly installed by the I . P . M . Bro . John F . Dyson , assisted by Bro . Williamson P . M .

P . P . J . G . D . At . the conclusion of the ceremony , the festival of St . John was observed , sixty-eight of the Brethren sitting down . The usual Loyal and Masonic toasts were given .

LOYAL BERKSHIRE LODGE OF HOPE , No . 574 . rilHE Officers and Brethren held their last meeting for the present year in JL the Temperance Hall , Newbury , on Friday , 4 th inst ., under the presidency of the Worshipful Master Bro . 0 . E . Keyser Past Grand Deacon of England . There was an unusually large attendance .

The first business on the agenda was the initiation of Mr . A . E . Pike , of Donnington Square , and Mr . Herbert Bavenor , of Speenhamland , the ceremony being impressively performed by the Worshipful Master . The scholarship fund in connection with the Boys School , and of which Earl Amherst , Sir John Monckton , and Bro . Keyser are the Trustees , received the hearty approval of the Brethren of the Lodge , who unanimously voted a contribution of £ 5 5 s , for which the Worshipful Master tendered his warmest thanks , Bros . Major Ricardo , Astley , and Howard volunteered their services as Stewards at the Festivals of the three great Masonic Charitable Institutions

during the ensuing year , and the customary contributions from the Lodge were voted . The next business was to elect the Worshipful Master of the Lodge for the ensuing year , and Bro . Keyser was invited to continue in the office , but

while thanking the Brethren for the compliment , the Worshipful Master explained that as there was no lack of Brethren prepared to take office in the Lodge he should prefer retiring from the chair at the end of the present term .

A ballot was then taken , and the Senior Warden Bro . Astlay was unanimously elected to fill the offico for the ensuing year . Bro . Astley returned thanks , observing that he should feel it a great honour to hold a position in the Lodge of Hope which was filled by his late father in the years 1857 and 1858 , and again in 1863 .

Bro . Belcher was warmly thanked for the valuable services he had rendered as Treasurer , and was unanimously re-elected . Bro . Stephen Knight was also thanked for having officiated as Almoner of the Lodge , and accepted the office for another year . Bro . Legg was re-appointed Tyler .

An application from the St . Nicholas Stained Glass Window Society for a contribution to its funds was read , and the matter was deferred until a subsequent meeting . At the close of the Lodge business the Brethren dined together at the Queen ' s Hotel , when the Worshipful Master presided , and the usual Masonic toasts were honoured .

CLIFTON LODGE , No . 703 . THE annual festival of St . John the Evangelist , together with the installation of the Worshipful Master , took place at the Clifton Arms Hotel , Blackpool , on Thursday , 3 rd inst . The W . M .-elect Bro . John Ellison S . W . was presented fco the installing Master Bro . E . Taylor W . M . by Bro . J . Walsh P . M ., and the installing ceremony was performed by Bro .

Taylor . The address to the W . M . was given by Bro . S . Wolstenholme P . M ., and Bro . E . Wolstenholme made the presentation of tools . The address to the Wardens was given by Bro . J . W . Clayton P . M . P . G . S ., and Bro . 3 Heyes P . M . P . G . P . C . B . gave the address to the Brethren in general . The Lodge was reported to be in a flourishing position . A banquet followed .

ROYAL CLARENCE LODGE , No . 976 . THE installation of Bro . E . King took place on Thursday , 3 rd inst ., at Bruton , the ceremony being performed by the D . P . G . M . of Somerset Bro . B . C Else . There was a large attendance of members of the Lodge and visitors , who afterwards dined together at the Blue Ball Hotel , Bro . Carharfc catering in excellent style .

ATHOLE LODGE , No . 1004 . < PIHE installation meeting , held on Wednesday , 2 nd inst ., at Douglas , JL was a very great success , and there was a large attendance . The occasion was the installation into the chair of the Lodge of Bro . Harry Webb , and the Installing Master was his father , Bro . Alderman Webb P . M .

P . Z . Prov . S . G . W ., who was assisted by Bro . W . J . Kelly P . M . Prov . G . St . Br . The Brethren afterwards dined together in the Masonic Hall , and Mrs . Nattan ( Granville Hotel ) catered in her best style . A very pleasant evening was spent , during which Bro . F . B . Fleming the retiring W . M . was presented with a Past Master ' s jewel , in recognition of his services to the Lodge .

The Secretary Bro . H . T . Rylance jun . was also awarded a Secretary's jewel , as some acknowledgment of the work done by him .

TYRIAN LODGE , No . 1110 . AT the anniversary of the Lodge , held at the Gildredge Hotel , East bourne , on Monday , 30 fch ult ., Bro . J . Welch was installed as W . M for the ensuing year , in succession to Bro . F . B . Sutton . The customary banquet followed , under the presidency of the new W . M ., who was supported by several of the Masters of the Province and other visitors .

The usual Masonic toasts were honoured , and a musical programme was carried out under the direction of Bro . J . Easter P . M . P . P . G . Orgt . The vocalists comprised Miss Edith Welling and Messrs . Parsons , Dynham , Partridge and Boper , the accompanist being Bro . S . G . B . Coles . Bro . Fred . Bartlett also gave a recitation .

RYBURN LODGE , No . 1283 . THE annual meeting was held on Wednesday , 25 th ult ., at Sowerbj Bridge , among the visitors present being the Deputy Provincial Grand Master Bro . J . 0 . Malcolm , of Leeds . Bro . John Smith , of King

Cross , was impressively installed as W . M . Bro . William Haigh P . M . was re-elected to represent the Lodge on the West Yorkshire Charity Committee , and Bro . John Smith sen . was re-elected Almoner .

PEMBROKE LODGE , No . 1299 . A MOST enjoyable evening was spent on Thursday , 19 th ult ., by the members and their lady friends , at the Lodge Booms , Shell Road , Liverpool .

The proceedings commenced with a banquet , after which the company were entertained by Miss Clara Bell and Walter Baunell ( by kind permission of Bro . James Kiernan ) , also by Bros . Nelson , Jackson , S . H . Jones P . M ., W . Baker , Fred Mawdsley , G . Baper , Jerrard , Mat Cose , and

G . Kiddle . The toasts wore few , and included the Ladies , the W . M ., the host and hostess , and fche musical Brethren . In the course of a brief speech the W . M . Bro . Edwin Parkinson , who presided , said thafc the success of the evening was mainly due to the efforts of Bro . Eobert Kendall , the energetic Secretary .

ST . JOHN LODGE , No . 1343 . THE last meeting for the present year of this Lodge was held at the Blasonic Hall , Grays , on Wednesday evening , the 25 th ult . Bro . F . W .
