— : o : — CONSECRATION OF THE BISLEY LODGE , No . 2317 . ON Wednesday , the 25 th nit ., a new Lodge waa consecrated in dno format the National School Room , Bisley . The acting Provincial Grand Master , Bio . F . Woat , assisted by Bro . 0 . Greenwool Proviucial Grand Secretary , and other distinguished brethren , performed the ceremony . The Hector of Bisley , Bi'o . Rev . J . Cater ,

was duly installed as first Worshipfnl Master , and then proceeded to appoint the following- brothren as Officers Tor the year : —Bros . E . EJ . Gale Crowdy S . W ., J . B . S . Lancastar J . W ., T . Aitken S . D ., Major Collins J . D ., C . P . Passmore I . G ., C . Palman Seoretary , P . W . Biscoo Treasurer , T . Coxhead nominated as I . P . M ., and Mason as Tyler .

The brethren and visitors were afterwards conveyed to tho Brookwood Hotel , where Bro . and Mrs . Loder prepared an excellent banquet . Judging from the speeches made in reply to the customary toasts , it would appear that considerable good work 13 likely to be accomplished , and that a bright future is before the new Lodge .

PORTLAND LODGE , No . 637 .

ON Thursday , tho 3 rd inst ., at Stoke-upon-Trent , Bro . G . W . Hancock was installed as W . M . for the ensuing year , in the presence of about fifty brethren , including several visitors from other Lodge ? . The ceremony was performed by Bro . J . Eardley the retiring W . M ., assisted by " Brothers H . C . Param , J . B . Ash well , E . Roberts , W . T . Copoland , D . Smith . The following Officers

were appointed : —Bro ? . W . H . Bamber S . W ., E . Penn J . W ., W . T . Copeland Treasurer , R . Williams Secretary , R . Barb S . D ., W . Burt J . D ., H . C . Param D . C ., W . N . Edge Organist , T . R . Yoxall I . G ., H . N . Marks and W . H . Smith Stewards , S . Kingston Tyler . After the Lodge had been closed , the brethren adjourned to the Copeland

Arms Hotel , where a most sumptuous banquet was provided by Bro . Rayues . Tbe loyal toasta having been honoured , the toasts of the Pro Grand Master ( the Earl of Carnarvon ) , the D . G . M . ( the Earl of Lathom ) , and the P . G . M . ( Colonel Gough ) , were proposed iu succession . Bro . Ash ton next proposed the D . P . G . M . ( Col . Bindley ) and

the other Officers of the Prov . Grand Lodge present and past , lor whom Bros . Copeland and Stevenson responded . Bro . Ashwell , in complimentary terms , proposed the health of the W . M ., which was very cordially received , and Bro . Hancock responded . The health of the Installing Master ( Bro . Eardley ) having been drunk with mnch

heartiness , Bro . Penn , in a neat speech , proposed the visiting Brethren , Bros . Windle , Skerrett and Taylor responding . The toast of the Past Masters of the Lodge , proposed by Bro . Bamber , was

acknowledged by Bros . Tootb , D . Smith , and Param . Bro . Clayton submitted the toast , of the Officers of the Lodge , the Inner Guard responding . The Masonio Charities and the Tyler's toast followed . Several brethren contributed music . The evening was spent in a convivial manner .

PLEIADES LODGE , No . 710 .

THE annual installation meeting took place on the 3 rd instant , at the Masonic Hall , Totnes . Bro . Dr . Prasor W . M . elect waa duly installed Worshipfnl Master , the installation ceremony being performed by Bro . J . Drennan , assisted by the Board of Installed Masters . The W . M . appointed and invested his Officers , as follow : —

The usual Loyal and Masonic toasts were duly proposed and responded to . Several good songs and recitations were given during the evening . The banquet reflected great credit on Bro . Darke , and tho floral decorations were also much admired .

TORBAY LODGE , No . 1358 .

rpHE installation meeting was held on the 30 th ult ., at the Town J- Hall , Paignton . Bro . Charles W . Perrett W . M . presided , and after the first degree had been worked , presented Bro . John Bradford with a Secretary ' s jewel , as a mark of esteem of the zeal and ability he had displayed during the eight years he had acted aa

Secretary . Bro . Bradford , in accepting the jewel , said he should always value it , for it had been a pleasure to him to work as he had done to get tbe Lodge into its present condition , which was certainly eqnal to that of any iu the Province . He hoped he should contiuue to merit tho esteem in which they held him at present .

The W . M . elect—Bro . R . Light , R . N . —was then installed by Bro . John Lane P . M . 1402 , in a very able manner ; the Board , of Installed Masters inclnded Bros . G . S . Bridgman , Rev . rnHE regular meeting of this Lodge was held at the Masonio Hall , -L Woolston , on Wednesday , the 2 nd instant , for tho transaction of the usual business , when a very large numbor of members and visitors attended , the principal event of the evening being tho presentation of a portrait of Bro . Walter Bowyer , Secretary , to tho Lodge by Bro . John Butler , in consideration of tho services rendered

during the past 15 years , as Pounder , Worshipfnl Master , and Secretary . The Worshipful Master had invited the W . M . 's , P . M . ' a , and Wardons of the following Lodges to be present on this occasion : Economy Lodge , No . 76 , Winchester ; Royal Gloucester Lodge , 130 ; Peace and Harmony Lodge , 359 ; Southampton Lodge , 394 ; Shirley

Lodge , 1112 ; Albert Edward Lodge , 1780 , and a goodly number responded to the invitations . The presentation was made by Bro . E . T . Wise I . P . M ., on behalf of Bro . J . Butler . In doing so , he alluded to the valuable services rendered by the Secretary during tho time he had been connected with the Lodge , and to Masonry in

general . The Worshipful Master accepted the portrait on behnlf of tho Lodge , adding that tho painting would hang on the walls aud re . mind them of one who had worked hard in the irterests of the Lodge from its foundation , and to whose effoits they wero grc : illy indebted for the erection of the handsome luilding in which they

were now assembled , and also of one who had contributed materially to the success , not , only of the Clansentum Lodgo , bnt to Freemasonry in the Province of Hampshire and the Isle of Wight . The Worshipfnl Master welcomed the Visitors , who responded with hearty good wishes for the Clausentnm Lodge . Tho business ended , about nixty

sat down to a banquet , which had been prepared by tho Tyler of tho Lodge Bro . C . Henley , and on the cloth being removed , the usual Loyal and Masonic toasts were given , interspersed with some excellent harmony by Bros . H . Kemp , S . J . Line , S . B . Crook , II . La-, hmoro , IV . H . Smith , and others ; Bros . W . H . Smith aud W . Fowler accompanied at the piano .

ROYAL COMMEMORATION LODGE , No . 1585 .

A REGULAR meeting of thia Lodge was held at the White Lion Hotel , Putney Bridge , on Wednesday , the 2 nd iust . The Lodgo wa 3 called for and opened at 5 p . m . punctually . There were present : —Bro ? . V . Wing W . M ., Hiding S . W ., Sandalls J . W ., Watkins Treasurer , Robinson P . M . Secretary , Oliver S . D ., Wright J . D ., Collins P . M . D . C . Stacey P . M . Organist , Grundy Steward

acting I . G ., Payers Assistant Steward , Gordon Assistant Organist , Walkley Tyler , Williams I . P . M ., Pardoe , Boohr , and some 20 other members of the Lodge . Amongst tho visitors were : —Bros . Dr . Canston W . M . 865 , Hatfield 304 , Holmes W . M . 1981 , Wade J . W . 1360 , Jones 1624 , Alexander P . M . 1257 , Ball 1567 , Bird P . M . 1567 ,

Haynes 865 , Tucker S . D . 144 , & c . The Lodge having been opened , and tho minutes of last irteeting read and confirmed , Bro . Snines was proved and entrusted . The Lodge was opened in the second degree , and Bro . Saines was passed . The Lodge wa 3 resumed in the first degree , and a ballot taken for Mr . Jas . E . Culverd , comedian

(" Jovial Johu Bull ' ) , who was proposed by Bro . Theodore Gordon , and seconded by Bro . Wright ; Mr . A . P . Lloyd , electrician , proposed by Bro . Knight , and seconded by Bro . Grundy ; and Mr . J . Wetherell , proposed by Bro ; Chapman , and seconded by Bro . Cox . The ballot was unanimous in favour of the candidates , and they wero

duly and ably initiated , according to ancient custom . After some charitable and other routine business had been disposed of , the appointment of a Secretary , in the room of P . M . Robinson resigning , occupied the attention of the Lodge for some time . Tho W . M . remarked on the excellent services Pro . Robinson had rendered to

the Lodge since its formation , and expressed the regret with which he contemplated Bro . Robinson's severance of his official connection with it . These sentiments met with hearty accord from the members present . The W . M . added that to find an able successor for the post had been a difficult task for himself and the Past Masters ;

several names had been suggested of members more or less qualified , but it was deemed necessary that the Secretary should be a tried , trusty , and skilled Past Master ; consequently the I . P . M . Bro . Williams had been selected for the post . At the same time he wished those brethren whose claims had been pnt forward to

believe that the selection had been made with a fervent desire for the welfare of the Lodge . These remarks were endorsed by a most emphatic approval from the brethren , and the W . M . then , with a few trenchant remarks , transferred the Secretary ' s collar from Bro . P . M . Robinson to Bro . I . P . M . Williams . Several of tbe

brethren having testified to the high esteem in which Bro . Robinson had been held for so many years , and expressed their hope that he would visit the Lodge as often as convenient , the Lodge closed in perfect harmony , and adjourned till Wednesday , 6 th of November . Owing to the late hour before which tho protracted business of the

Lodge was completed , the banquet was shorn of one of tho most distinguishing features of the Royal Commemoration Lodge , viz ., its musical entertainment . The W . M . suggested , and in fact set the example for short speeches , but the Loyal and Masonio toasts were proposed and enthnsically received , and honoured with real

" Commemoration Fire . " The health of the W . M ., the I . P . M ., the Initiates , . and the Visitors wero ably proposed and Bnitably responded to . The compliment to the Treasurer and Secretary invoked a great amount of enthusiasm . The Treasurer and new Secretary are both well known and deservedly popular members of

tho Lodge . After they bad replied , a general call was made for the ex-Secretary , Bro . Robinson , and a perfect round of applauso greeted his remark that as lon ^ as he lived ho hoped to remain a member of the Royal Commemoration Looge , and to come among the brethren

as often as hia duties would permit . The toast of the Past Masters followed ; it was responded to by Bros . Williams , Robinson , and Pardoe . Tbe Officers came next , and Bros . S . W ., J . W ., and Steward responded in terms suited to the exigencies of the time at their disposal . The Tyler ' s toast concluded a most enjoyable even-

Haynes 865 , Tucker S . D . 144 , & c . The Lodge having been opened , and tho minutes of last irteeting read and confirmed , Bro . Snines was proved and entrusted . The Lodge was opened in the second degree , and Bro . Saines was passed . The Lodge wa 3 resumed in the first degree , and a ballot taken for Mr . Jas . E . Culverd , comedian

(" Jovial Johu Bull ' ) , who was proposed by Bro . Theodore Gordon , and seconded by Bro . Wright ; Mr . A . P . Lloyd , electrician , proposed by Bro . Knight , and seconded by Bro . Grundy ; and Mr . J . Wetherell , proposed by Bro ; Chapman , and seconded by Bro . Cox . The ballot was unanimous in favour of the candidates , and they wero

duly and ably initiated , according to ancient custom . After some charitable and other routine business had been disposed of , the appointment of a Secretary , in the room of P . M . Robinson resigning , occupied the attention of the Lodge for some time . Tho W . M . remarked on the excellent services Pro . Robinson had rendered to

the Lodge since its formation , and expressed the regret with which he contemplated Bro . Robinson's severance of his official connection with it . These sentiments met with hearty accord from the members present . The W . M . added that to find an able successor for the post had been a difficult task for himself and the Past Masters ;

several names had been suggested of members more or less qualified , but it was deemed necessary that the Secretary should be a tried , trusty , and skilled Past Master ; consequently the I . P . M . Bro . Williams had been selected for the post . At the same time he wished those brethren whose claims had been pnt forward to

believe that the selection had been made with a fervent desire for the welfare of the Lodge . These remarks were endorsed by a most emphatic approval from the brethren , and the W . M . then , with a few trenchant remarks , transferred the Secretary ' s collar from Bro . P . M . Robinson to Bro . I . P . M . Williams . Several of tbe

brethren having testified to the high esteem in which Bro . Robinson had been held for so many years , and expressed their hope that he would visit the Lodge as often as convenient , the Lodge closed in perfect harmony , and adjourned till Wednesday , 6 th of November . Owing to the late hour before which tho protracted business of the

Lodge was completed , the banquet was shorn of one of tho most distinguishing features of the Royal Commemoration Lodge , viz ., its musical entertainment . The W . M . suggested , and in fact set the example for short speeches , but the Loyal and Masonio toasts were proposed and enthnsically received , and honoured with real

" Commemoration Fire . " The health of the W . M ., the I . P . M ., the Initiates , . and the Visitors wero ably proposed and Bnitably responded to . The compliment to the Treasurer and Secretary invoked a great amount of enthusiasm . The Treasurer and new Secretary are both well known and deservedly popular members of

tho Lodge . After they bad replied , a general call was made for the ex-Secretary , Bro . Robinson , and a perfect round of applauso greeted his remark that as lon ^ as he lived ho hoped to remain a member of the Royal Commemoration Looge , and to come among the brethren

as often as hia duties would permit . The toast of the Past Masters followed ; it was responded to by Bros . Williams , Robinson , and Pardoe . Tbe Officers came next , and Bros . S . W ., J . W ., and Steward responded in terms suited to the exigencies of the time at their disposal . The Tyler ' s toast concluded a most enjoyable even-
