ST . ANNE LODGE , No . 970 . THE members of thia Lodgo have decided to commemorate the Diamond Jubilee of Her Majesty ' s reign by entertaining their lady friends at a special banquet on tho 29 th inst ., to be followed by a soiree at the Guildhall , East Looe . A Committee has been appointed to make the necessary arrangements .
WALPOLE LODGE , No . 1500 . ON Thursday , 3 rd inst ., at the rooms of t ^ he Masonic Association , Norwich , in the presence of an exceptionally large gathering of brethren , including the D . P . G . M . Bro . Hamon Lo Strange , forty Past Masters , and other notabilities of tho Craft , Bro . Harry Warne was installed W . M . by Bro . R . Ford P . P . G . O . the retiring Master , and Bro . C . 3 . Campling P . M . P . P . G . O . Prov . G . R .
During the evening Bro . Ford was asked to accept at the hands of Bro . Warne a Past Master ' s jewel and an illuminated address—tokens of the goodwill entertained towards him by the brethren of Walpole Lodge . The subsequent proceedings were most successful and enjoyable , some first-class music being contributed .
MERLIN LODGE , No . 1578 . rjpHE annual festival took place at the Butcher ' s Hotel , Pontypridd , on JL Thursday , 27 th ult ., when the Rev . W . Lewis , the respected Vicar of Ystradyfodwg , was installed as W . M ., the installation ceremony being ably performed by Bro . Joseph David P . M . A banquet subsequently took place .
FREDERICK WEST LODGE , No . 2222 . nnHE installation of Bro . James Purkess as Worshipful Master took place _ L at the Masonic Temple , Castle Hotel , East Molesey , on Tuesday , llth ult ., and proved a brilliant function , the ceremony being graced by the presence of the Earl of Onslow Provincial Grand Master of Surrey , Bro .
Frederick West Deputy Provincial Grand Master , Bro . Charles T . Tyler Provincial Grand Secretary , and a large number of visitors , which included many Provincial Officers of Surrey , Middlesex and Hants , all of whom were very hearty in their congratulations to Bro . Purkess on the high position he had attained .
The Lodge business being ended the whole of the brethren , numbering about 60 , sat down to an excellent banquet served by Bro . John Mayo , and ably presided over by the new W . M . The proceedings throughout were an entire success , and the event will live long in the memories of the members of the Lodge .

WELSHPOOL CHAPTER , No . 998 . THE anniversary festival was held at the Masonic Temple , Newtown , on the 28 th ult ., when Comps . W . P . Hole , Welshpool , and James Tomlins , Aberdovey , were installed as Principals . After the business of the Chapter was completed , the Companions sat down to a sumptuous banquet , provided by Mr . Evan Bebb , of Newtown . The usual toasts were proposed , and an enjoyable evening was spent .
ZETLAND CHAPTER , No . 1071 . THE installation meeting was held at Saltash , on Wednesday , 19 th ult ., when there was a good muster of members . Unfortunately , owing to illness , the Z .-elect Dr . Meadows could not be present , and his installation •was therefore postponed . Comps . Shanks and Lander were installed as H . and J . respectively .

_ One or two resignations were accepted , and Colonel G . Lambert P . G . D . C . was elected an honorary member , as he was one'of the founders of the Chapter . The report of the Auditors was read , being of a very satisfactory nature . A P . Z . jewel was presented to Comp . C . Godfrey , and after hearty good

wishes the Chapter was closed , and the Companions adjourned to a banquet . The M . E . Z ., after grace , gave the Loyal toasts , in the course of which he remarked that the Queen was an honour to womankind , an honour to the world , and an example to both . Tho Grand Officers toasts were then honoured . Comp . Godfrey , in proposing the M . E . Z ., was brief , as all were so well acquainted with him and his qualifications . He trusted he would long be amongst them .
Comp . Rowe expressed thanks for the grand reception they had given to the toast , and would do all he could to advance the interests of the Chapter . He had followed Comp . Godfrey both in the Lodge and Chapter , and if he carried out the duties in as admirable a manner he would be satisfied . At this moment Colonel Probyn had to leave , but in response to his toast said he appreciated their kindness , more especially aa so many of the Companions were members of the corps of which he was colonel and justly proud .
The toast of H . and J . followed . Comp . Clark H . thanked the Companions heartily . As they had approved of his work as 3 . he would endeavour to deserve their further approval as H ., as he took the greatest of interest in everything pertaining to Royal Arch Masonry . Comp . Harnell J . said he would do his utmost to support the M . E . Z . and H . in their duties , by being ready at all times to do his own .
Tho Visitors then followed . Comp . Dehane congratulated the Chapter in having so splendid an Installing Officer in Comp . Cleghorn , who was not only letter perfect , but added that emphasis which made their ritual so beautiful . He also congratulated , the Chapter on their choice of Principals and Officers .
Comp . Manuel also responded , and said the M . E . Z . was an excellent man and Mason . He was pleased to visit the Chapter , which bore the honoured name of Queen ' s Westminster . He had twenty years Masonic experience , and had visited many Lodges and Chapters , but must confess those with military element were most enjoyable—this Chapter was no exception .
The P . Z . ' s , S . E . and Treasurer ' s toast followed , including the Installing Officer . Comp . Cleghorn said he was pleased to have had the honour to instal , and felt sure the M . E . Z . would justify the choice the Companions had made . He said that in 1860 he was a spectator when the regiment was reviewed . Comp . Von Joel also briefly responded .
The S . E . had pleasure to have been associated with the Chapter and regiment . By force of circumstances at tho WarjOffice , he had to go on the halfpay list . The Chapter work appealed to him , and while he had strength and health he would do his best . The Officers' toast was responded to by Comps . Truman , Gunzell , and Tomes .
The Janitor then closed a happy meeting , the musical arrangements at which were carried out by Miss Katie Thomas , Companions A . Kenningham and Thomas Kempton .

LOVE AND HONOUR LODGE , No . 94 . rriHE installation meeting of this Lodge was held at Falmouth , on Thursday , _ L 3 rd inst ., when Bro . W . W . J . Sharpe was placed in the chair as ruler for the year , afterwards appointing and investing his assistant Officers .
EAST SUSSEX LODGE , No . 166 . THE annual meeting was held at the Castle Hotel , Hastings , when Bro . Alderman John Bray P . P . S . G . D . was installed as Worshipful Master , there being a large assemblage of Brethren to congratulate him on his appointment . The annual banquet followed , the different toasts being interspersed with songs , & c .
Lord Dorchester and a friend are reported as having been seized as spies , during the Franco-German war , by some French soldiers , who were baiting their horses at Montmedy , one man swearing that he saw Lord Dorchester riding in the Crown Prince ' s staff at Sedan . The two prisoners were stripped and searched , and Lord Dorchester would probably not be alive now
to tell the story of his expedition had not one of the bystanders recognised in him a Brother Freemason , and thereupon mounted the box of his carriage , which he did not leave until Lord Dorchester and his friend were safe on Belgian territory . A very good argument , as Lord Dorchester has more than once pointed out at subsequent Lodge dinners , for being a Mason .
