After Lodge was opened , and the minutes had been read and

confirmed , the ceremony of installing Bro . Andrew as W . M . was proceeded with , the officiating Master jbeing Bro . Josiah Houle P . M ., who undertook tho duty last year , and was equally successful in its performance on this occasion . The W . M . then invested his Officers for the year , among them being Bros . H . F . Auldjo S . W ., T . L . Wilkinson J . W ., E . Home P . M . Treasurer , J . Houle P . M . Secretary , W . Bohm

S . D ., A . Dent J . D ., T . C . Speight Tyler . Past Masters' jewels were presented to Bros . G . J . Atkins and Edgar Home , that to the former being given in commemoration of his having entered on the fifty-third year of his membership of the Lodge , while the latter received his in recognition of his very valuable services during the last nine year 3 in the capacity of Treasurer . The presentation was suitably

acknowledged by each brother in turn . An address of congratulation was afterwards presented to Bro . R . F . Gould , on his appointment as Grand Senior Deacon , and Bro . Gould having warmly expressed his thanks for the compliment , the other business was despatched and Lodge closed . The brethren then adjourned to a banquet , which proved to be a great credit to the proprietors , Messrs . Spiers and Pond .

After dinner , the customary Loyal and Masonic toasts were duly honoured . In the case of the Queen and the Craft , the Worshipful Master mentioned incidentally that to Bro . Sir Moses Montefiore , who was initiated into the mysteries of Freemasonry in the Moira Lodge as far back as the year 1813 , was indirectly due the birth of Her Majesty in England . The worthy baronet was travelling on the

Continent towards the close of the year 1818 , when he chanced to meet their Royal Highnesses the late Duke and Duchess of Kent , and he urged on the Duke how desirable it was the heir or heiress that might be born to him should first see the light on British soil . In proposing the health of the Prince of Wales , Bro . Andrew spoke of the high appreciation in which His Royal Highness was held , and also

referred to the congratulatory resolution to the Princess of Wales , passed in Grand Lodge on the 1 st instant , in honour of her thirty , sixth birthday , when the brethren there assembled wished Her Royal Highness many happy returns of the day . In speaking of the Grand Officers , the Worshipful Master referred to the pleasure as well as efficiency with which they fulfilled their duties , and the great

popularity they enjoyed in consequence . With the toast was associated the name of Bro . Mclntyre , Q . C ., M . P ., Grand Registrar , who , in replying , expressed his thanks for the honour done both to him and his colleagues , and congratulated the Lodge on one of its members , Bro . Gould , having had conferred on him this year the great honour of a Grand Senior Deaconship . He spoke in terms of eulogy of the

brilliant services to Freemasonry of one of the brightest lights of the Moira Lodge—the late Bro . Potter , and expressed a belief that it would win additional lustre under the able sway of its present Master . He fully complimented the Installing Master ( Bro . Houle ) on the efficient and impressive manner in which he had carried out his task . Then followed the toast of the evening , which is invariably given on these

occasions , " The Pious Memory of the Earl of Moira "—afterwards Marquis of Hastings . In proposing this the Worshipful Master briefly touched upon the leading incidents in the career of that distinguished nobleman , as a soldier , a statesman , and a Freemason ; and expressed his indebtedness to Bro . Gould for having kindly furnished him with the materials for so doing . The toast was drunk in solemn silence .

The duty of proposing the health of the Worshipful Master devolved on Bro . Carter , who made several happy allnsions to the nationality of the different Worshipful Masters who had guided the destinies of the Lodge . After a suitable reply from Bro . Andrews , who trusted he should be able to fulfil the anticipations of Bro . Mclntyre , and that during his term of office he should have many dutios to perform

the W . M . proposed the toast of the Past Masters—Bros . Carter , Atkins—who , however , had been under the necessity of leaving early—Webster , Houle , Home , Harben , and Gould . Brother Carter acknowledged this , after which the toast of the Visitors was responded to by Bro . Scott G . D ., Dep . Prov . Grand Master

Sussex . The other toasts were given in order , and the brethen then rose . An admirable musical programme was provided , under the direction of Bro . Lawler , who was assisted by Miss Annie Sinclair , Bro . Schartau , and Mr . Sidney Tower , Bro . Schartau presiding at the pianoforte .

Lodge Of Harmony , No . 309 . —At the usual meeting on Thursday evening , 2 nd inst ., tho Rev . A . A . Headley , Provincial Grand Chaplain for Hants and the Isle of Wight , was unanimously elected Worshipful Master of the Lodge for the ensuing year .

Hornsey Lodge, No. 890.

HORNSEY LODGE , No . 890 .

THE installation meeting of the above Lodge was held on Friday , 3 rd inst ., at the Freemasons' Hall , Great Queen Street . A nnmber of the members of tho Lodge were present , and it was but natural to expect that the placing in the chair of King Solomon , for tho second time , he having already filled the office in a Surrey Lodge , of so well-known and hard-working a member of the Craft as Bro . S . J .

Turquaud P . P . G . D . C . Surrey , should cause au influx of visitors to tho Lodge—almost equal in number to the members ; they made conjointly a very large assembly . Admirably was the impressive ceremony performed by the outgoing W . M . Bro . Kempster , M . D ., eliciting the warm applause of the hearers . Bro . Turquand appointed and invested , in a formula that explicitly detailed

their several privileges and duties , his Officers , as follow : —Bros . T . G . Smith S . W ., Walters J . W ., Churchward , M . D ., S . D ., Bolton J . D ., French I . G ., Crawley D . C ., Willis W . S ., Hickman A . W . S . Bro . Kempster , M . D ., was presented with a handsome jewel , on his retirement from the chair . At tho banquet , provided by the proprietor of the Freemasons' Tavern in his best manner , the usual toasts wore given

and acknowleged . If more warmth was expressed in the reception of some where all were cordially received , those of the W . M . and the Masonic Charities might be mentioned . " The Visitors" met with fitting replies from Bros . Greenwood G . S . B . P . G . S . Surrey , Greenwood jun . P . G . R . Surrey , H . E . Travers P . P . G . D . Surrey , Tew , and others . The W . M . intimated it was his intention to be Steward to the Boys '

in June next . Bros . Binckes and Torry , in replying for the Masonic Charities , told the oft-repeated tale how worthy those Charities were of support , and told it with the charm of novelty , and with an elo . queues that will not fail , we think , to be remembered by the brethren when they aro called upon by the W . M . for support in the duty he has undertaken . Much delight was given during the evening by some

excellent singing by Miss Berrie Stephens , R . A . M ., Messrs . Lovett King , and H . Prenton , with recitations by Bro . J . A . Keable . Miss Berrie Stephens rendered Millard ' s charming song " Waiting " exquisitely , and was warmly applauded and enthusiastically encored . Bro . Turquand is to be congratulated that his first essay in the chair of a London Lodge was a deoided success .
