NEW ZEALAND .

THE disputed points between the newly-constituted Grand Lodge of New Zealand and fcho District and Provincial Grand Lodges of England and Scotland of New Zealand having been the subject of so much public discussion , the following circular , issued by Bro . AI . Niccol Grand Superintendent N . Z . C , will be read with au interest outside the internal workings of the Masonic Order : —The recent

action of Bro . Sir Frederick Whitaker in issuing a dispensation to certain unqualified brethren , authorising them to work a second Lodge nnder the designation of " Lodge Sfc . Andrew , No . 418 , S . C , " and declaring that irregular Lodge to be entitled to all the properties and funds created and accumulated by us , has , I believe , raised some

doubt of onr position in the minds of some of onr members ; and the Grand Lodge of Scotland having apparently approved and confirmed Sir Frederick ' s ruling , there is , perhaps , danger of this ruling being accepted as correct in the absence of any statement to the contrary . I therefore deem it neoessarv to remind you that neither tho

Provincial Grand Alaster nor the Grand Lodge of Scotland can override justice and equity , or deprive us of our natural rights and- privileges . We are living neither in Russia nor Turkey , bufc in a free country , under the laws of which any such arbitrary act of oppression and confiscation cannot possibly be sanctioned or tolerated . We must

neither be bounced nor bluffed oufc of onr money and property , of which we are in lawful possession , but be prepared to defend onr rights in every legitimate way . But I counsel all members of our Lodge to avoid acts of reprisal or words of recrimination ; let ns keep on in the even tenor of our way , acting strictly on the defensive ,

alike uninfluenced by the threats and blandishments of our opponents . After all , a very short time must see us all re-united , or rather fused into one harmonious band of friends and brothers , and the less bitter , ness introduced into our disputes fche sooner will thafc consummation so devoutly to be wished for be accomplished . Believing that our

mother Grand Lodge of Scotland has acted upon incorrect and prejudiced accounts ofthe position , a fall statement of the case has been prepared , and will be forwarded co Edinburgh by next mail , and I have every confidence that upon due consideration , that body will recognise and admit our jusfc claims . —Tours fraternally , M . Niccoii , Grand Superintendent .

The principle of heredity is nofc without several examples in tha City , but I doubt if ever beforo occurred such an incident as took place at the Glaziers' Company last Monday . Ou that day the Court elected ns Alaster Air . Deputy Green as Upper Warden hia brother , Air . S . L . Green ; and Renter Warden another brother ,

Mr . Henry Green . Aa a wag remarked , for the next throe years bhe Glaziers will go iu for green glass . If thoro should be on record any similar case , I should bo glad to hoar of ifc from any reader . A father and two sona havo boon Aldermen , ns in tho caao of bhe

Lawrence family , but not at one bime . The Lord Atayor relates thab on retiring from tho chair in Freemasonry , ho installed hia brother ns his successor , and the same day initiated hia fa'her into tho Cr ; iffc . ' Bub I never heard of such a triplet before . —Correspondent of the GiLy Press .

Afc a recent religions service in Edinbnrgh , in aid of thc Freemasons' Benevolent Fund , there waa a graud musical ceremony . Violins , trumpets and drums forming part of a very large orchostra , aud the announcement of this attracted a huge concourse of people . The admission was by ticket , supplied gratis ; but a " silver

collection was mentiouea as nn indispensable part of the proceedings . Under these circumstances , the analysis of tho collection is extremely curious : — . -61 notes , 2 ; sovereigns , 3 ; half-sovereigns , 8 ; crown pieces , 2 : half-crowns , 52 ; florins , 90 :

shillings , 501 ; sixpences , 649 ; threepenny pieces , 439 ; pennies , 328 * , halfpennies , 88 . As there wero 3 , 000 present , according fco fcho doorkeepers , this averages 4 £ d per head . Sandy keeps up hia economical reputation .

Lady Saltonn met the principal stallholders in fche Grand Masonic Bazaar ab bhe Imperial Hobel , Aberdeen , on the 30 th ult . The Lodges were well represented . Tho reports as to tho work aud general success of the Bazaar wore considered satisfactory .

Lady Saltoun thanked tho ladies for attending , and fc r their labours during bhe summer , and suggested fche formation of weekly work parties . The Chairman , Air . P . Crombie , aud tho Secretary , Mr . A . AI . Byreit , O . A ., wero present , and detailed the steps taken by bhe Working Committeo in the arrangomonb of stalls , entertainments , & c .

The problem can bo ensily solved ; the " Mw-nio Working Alan " knows too well that the door of a Lodge , whether there is a " club " connected with ifc or not , cannot be kept open without more or less expense . Theso expenses are covered by the members' contributions . Transfer fees are charged , because the Mason who seeks to be affiliated

fco another Lodge that has nofc derived any benefit from him in the fchape of " initiation " fee , will thereby gain a considerable advantage . '' Alaaonic Working Man" mnst know very well that if be continues to remain " financial " with his " mother Lodge , " ho may always enter other Lodges ou " Lodge nights " as a " visiting brother , " ancl he will ha

mado welcome . What more does he want ? Does he wish ofchers to " treat him , " and pay for his dinners or suppers and drinks ? I am afraid some men are admitted into tho Craft who are qnito unworthy of being made Alasons . Men who expect to gain " material "

advantages in return for thoir contributions and fees , aud who , when they 'seo nothing forthcoming iu fche shape of something " tangible , " be » in fco " foul their own nest , " and call Masonry nothing but humbug , I Echo ,
