The Burial Place Of Lafayette.

Southampton Masonic Hall , Limited . —At the annual meeting of shareholders , held on Monday , 26 th ult ., afc tho Hall , in Albion-place , Bro . W . W . Hickman D . P . G . M . in the chair , the directors reported that during tho year the receipts had amounted to £ 278 9 s , and the expenditure to £ 119 10 s 2 d . Thero was a balance at the bank of £ 145 Os 4 d , from which the directors recommended

a dividend of £ 4 per cent , per annum , free of income tax , leaving a balance to be carried forward of £ 33 14 s 9 d . The directors retiring by rotation were Bros . Hickman , Robertson , Waters , Coles , and Dusautoy , who were eligible for re-election . The Chairman , moving the adoption of this report said , the accounts also showed a balance of £ 24 18 s on capital account . Tho hall , no doubt , required

some amount of finishing and decoration , and he hoped the meeting would be so far satisfied with the judgment of the Directors as to leave the matter with them , to pay the cost either from income or capital as they might think proper , thongh he was not prepared to say what the amount would be . The walls were now completely dry , and he was sure the Directors would

do what was required in a spirit of taste , and , at the same time , of economy . Whether the cost should bernet from income to fche prejudice of the dividend next year , or by the issue of a few more shares , might be very well left to the Directors . Bro . J . C . Munday seconded the motion , which , after a brief discussion , was carried . Bros . W .

Hickman , J . Robertson , W . Waters , H . Coles , and H . Dusautoy were re-elected Directors , and Bros . J . Cole and G . Cross Auditors , after which a discussion took place upon the necessity of providing further accommodation , with the view of increasing the lettings from private sources , and eventually the matter was referred to the Directors for consideration . —Portsmouth Times .

The Borough of Portsmouth Freemasons' Club annual Masonic ball in aid of the Royal Masonic Institution for Boys will be held on Thursday , the 16 th inst ., at Cawte ' s Assembly Rooms , Southsea , under tho distinguished patronage of his Worshipful the Mayor of Portsmouth ancl the Mayoress . H . S . H . Prince Edward of Saxe-Weimar and the Princess , W . W . B . Beach , Esq ., P . G . M ., Sir H .

Drnmmond Wolff , M . P ., and Lady Wolff , Admiral Ryder , Vice-Admiral Foley , Colonel Jervois , R . E ., Colonel Bray , A . A . G ., the commandants and officers of the Royal Marine Artillery , Royal Marines , Black Watch , and Gordon Highlanders . A numerous gathering is expected , and an early application for tickets should be made , either to the Stewards or the Secretary , at the Club . )

Bros . E . Moss and A . Hubbard wero very successful in the duet set down for them in the first part . The Serenade— " Come away "was repeated , by unanimous request . In the second part Mr . Albert James was most effective in " Sweet Love , " & c , while the new song , " Constancy , " ably rendered by Bro . E . Collins , found much

favour with the audience . Brother F . H . Cozens , who presided at the Piano , was most enthusiastically encored in his Solo . Altocethor , tho Concert was a most successful performance . We have been requested to announce that fche date of the " Ladies' Night , " which had been fixed for the 4 th April , has been changed to the 24 th April , the former date falling in Passion Week .

Ifc is with very sincere regret that we announce the death , on the 8 th instant , of Worshipful Brother W . Bulkeley Hughes , M . P ., Deputy Provincial Grand Master of North Wales and Shropshire . Bro . Hnghes , who wns in the eighty-fifty year of his age , had been in feeble health

for some time past , and succumbed , as ivc have stated , on Wednesday . As a Mason , he had endeared himself to the Craffc generally , and especially to the members of his

Province . He was a staunch brother , and was greatly respected by all who were acquainted with him . We offer our respectful sympathy to the members of his family .

The annual Mark Masons' ball was held at the Pavilion , Brighton , on AVcdnesclay evening , 1 st inst ., and was a great success . The dancing took place in the Music Room , and tlie supper was served by Messrs . Saycrs and Murks iu the Bauquctting Room .

W . LANCASHIRE MASONIC EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTION .

A MEETING of the General Committee of the West Lancashire Masonic Edncational Institution was held on Friday , the 3 rd instant , at the Masonic Hall , Hope-street , Liverpool . Bro . R . Wylie P . P . G . D . occupied tho chair , and during the evening the claims of eighteen children of deceased Freemasons were brought forward . After careful consideration of each case , the Committee agreed to recommend a sum equivalent to upwards of £ 100 a year

for the education and advancement in life of these children . Afc the conclusion of the business Bro . Richard Brown , who has been one of the hon . Secretaries of the Institution for nine years , intimated his desire to resign that office . In moving that Bro . Brown ' s notice of resignation be placed on the next circular to the Court of Governors of the Charity , Bro . Tobias expressed deep regret that the honorary

secretary should have found it necessary to resign an appointment which he had filled with so much honour to himself and advantage to the Institution . The Chairman having remarked thafc every bro - ther must regret the retirement of the honorary Secretary , Bro . Brown acknowledged the complimentary observations that had been made respecting himself and his services , and

added that he should continue to exercise the warmest interest in the welfare of so admirable a charity as the West Lancashire Masonio Edncational Institution . The financial report of fche charity shows that the total income for tho year , including a balance brought forward of £ 754 , to havo been £ 2 , 290 . The expenditure

amounted to £ 1 , 001 , of which sum £ 937 was paid for the educa . tion and advancement of children . Consequently , there was now in hand a balance of £ 1 , 289 . The amount of money invested , chiefly in Mersey Dock Bonds , was £ 15 , 228 , and the total sum afc the credit of the Institution £ 16 , 518 .

Polish "National Lodge , No . 534 , — The usual monthly meeting of this Lodge took place , on Thursday , 9 th March , at Freemasons' Hall , Great Queen-street , under the presidency of Bros . Dr . Corrie Jackson , W . M ., Lancaster S . W ., Smith J . W ., Runta S . D ., Bieling J . D ., Bryant I . G ., Tongue M . C ., and Davis Tyler . After reading and confirmation of minutes , the Lodge proceeded fco

ballot for Mr . Robert A . B ^ ll , 221 Stanhope . street , Regent ' s-park , Professor of Music , proposed by Dr . Jackson W . M ., and seconded by Dr . Pardoe . Bro . Fauser was then entrusted and retired ; Lodge was opened in the second degree , and he was passed to the degree of Fellow Craft . Lodge opened in third and resumed in first , when Mr . R . A . Bell , whose ballot had been unanimous , was initiated into

fche mysteries of Freemasonry . The W . M . then , in appropriate terms , presented to the joining member , Bro . Bowley , the emblem of the Lodge , the Polish Eagle , a decoration every brother is entitled to wear . The election of Worshipful Master for the ensuing year then took place , when Bro . Lancaster S . W . was unanimously elected to fill that office . Bro . Nowakowski was re-elected Treasnrer , and Bro . Davis Tyler . Bro . W . Paas P . M . and Secretary then proposed

that a Past Master ' s jewel should be presented to the retiring W . M ., in recognition of the services he had rendered to the Lodge , and the excellent manner in whioh the working had been performed . This was unanimously endorsed by the brethren . Bro . Jackson having tendered his thanks , and all business being ended , the W . M . re . sumed Lodge in third and closed downwards , the W . M . giving a fare , well address to the brethren in a most impressive manner . Brother Herzog , from the United States , was a visitor .
