The Lodge was opened and the minutes were confirmed . Brother Mussared , late 188 , was elected a joining member . Bros . Blaiberg , Isaacs , and Hyman , were passed to the 2 nd degree . Great credit is due to the W . M . for his excellent working . Bro . Martin J . W . proposed , and Bro . J . Wynman seconded , that a sum of two gnineas be given from the funds of the Lodge for the purpose of making a
present to Bro . L . Alexander P . M . Past President of the Benevolent Fnnd , this amount to form a nucleus for a testimonial . This was carried , and a committee was formed to carry out this purpose . Bro . H . M . Levy P . M . proposed , and Bro . L . Lazarus P . M . seconded , That a letter of congratulation be sent to His Royal Highness tbe Prince of Wales Most Worshipful Grand Master , on the providential
escape of Her Majesty the Queen , and also expressing a fervent wish that the Great Architect of the Universe will grant Her Majesty health and long life to reign over us . The same to be recorded on the minntes of the Lodge . This proposition was supported by Bro . L . Alexander P . M ., and carried with acclamation . Lodge was then closed and the brethren sat down to a sumptuous
banquet and dessert , provided by Bro . Jennings , and superintended by Bro . M . Silver . Grace having been said , the W . M ., in eloquent terms , proposed the toasfc of H . M . the Qneen . This toast had been associated with the Craft for years past . This night , however , with especial sincerity they might wish Her Majesty health and long life ; and express their gratitude for her happy deliverance , through Divine
Providence , from the pistol of a miscreant . The toast was received with loud acclamations , and the National Anthem was sung . The toast of H . R . H . tbe M . W . G . M . the Prince of Wales was next given , and then that of the Pro G . M . the Earl of Carnarvon , the Deputy G . M ., and the rest of the Grand Officers of the Grand Lodge of England . The W . M . said all were pleased to see their old and esteemed
friend Bro . Albert P . G . P . present , but to-night , in addition , they had a distinguished Brother well known in Grand Lodge and in the musical world j he referred to Bro . J . Willing P . G . O ., with whose name he would connect the toast . Bro . Willing said , the W . M . had called npon him to reply for the distinguished brethren whose names had been so well received . It was a great hononr for him to reply
on their behalf . The toast of the Benevolent Fund of the Joppa Lodge was next introduced . The W . M . said , they all knew what that Fund was . It now stood at nearly £ 1 , 000 , and by a recent edict of the Lodge the W . M . for the time being was the President of the Fund . However , he would call on the senior Vice-President , Bro . L . Alexander P . M ., to respond . After Bro . Alexander's reply , the
W . M . proposed the toast of the rejoining member , Bro . Mussared , who they were all pleased to see again among them . This compliment having been acknowledged , Bro . Baker I . P . M . rose ; ifc required but a very words from him to commend the toast of the W . M . Bro . Myers's private worth was well known ; and in his capacity as W . M . the members had seen and could fully appreciate his ability . Since
he had occupied the chair his capabilities had been shown in every way to their satisfaction . Bro . Myers , the W . M ., in reply , thanked Bro . Baker for the kind manner he had spoken of him . His aim was for their benefit , and if he received the support of the brethren , he would strive that the Lodge should be second to none . He thought np to the present time he had earned their approval , and when he
left the chair , he trnsted to hear the same gratifying expressions he had just listened to repeated . The toast of the Visitors was next on the list , coupled with the names of Bros . J . Lewis , Finch , and Linscott W . M . 55 . the latter brother eloquently responding . Bros . Lewis and Finch also added a few words . Bro . Jacob Norton said he was a member of the Lodge forty years ago ; since then he had seen many changes . He once held the office of Inner Guard ; to-night he was
pleased to see the Lodge had so progressed . The W . M . then proposed fche toast of the Past Masters ; he would call on Bro . R . Baker I . P . M . to respond to the toast . The other toasts were the Wardens , the Treasnrer , Secretary , and the Junior Officers . Finally , the Tyler gave tbe last toast . Bros . Prenton and Miss Annie Austin and Bro . Baker I . P . Fleming , and Lodge was opened in the 2 nd degree . The ceremony of passing was then re . hearsed , Bro . Taplin candidate . This brother also answered the questions required before raising . Lodge was advanced , and the ceremony of raising was rehearsed , by Bro . Tucker Preceptor , Bro .
Cotton being the candidate . The Lodge was resumed to the first degree . Bro . Andrews P . M . was elected to fill the chair at the next meeting . Bro . Brooks Secretary announced that he had received an invitation for the brethren of this Lodge of Instruction to attend the meeting of the Royal Alfred Lodge of Instruction , on the 10 th inst ., when Bro . Port Lodge . The thanks of the brethren were tendered to Captain Carvick . Lodge having been duly closed , the brethren sat down to an excellent banquet , provided by Bros . Sayers and Marks , the wellknown caterers . The newly-installed W . M . presided , while Bros . Lockyer , Ridge , and Kent occupied the vice-chairs . The usual loyal toasts wero most enthusiastically received ; then fche W . M .
proposed the Right Hon . the Earl of Carnarvon W . M . ProG . M ., fche Right Hon . the Earl of Skelmersdale V . W . Deputy G . M ., ancl the Officers of the Grand Lodge of England present and past . Bnrrell , owing to his Parliamentary duties , trnsted that tho brethren wonld rally round bim on Saturday next at the Grand Lodge meeting , when an address wonld be drawn np , congratulating her Majesty upon hor recent providential escape . Many had said
that in tho face of the Queen ' s safety they were making " much ado ahout nothing . " He thought otherwise , for had the assassin ' s shot beon fatal , the brethren present , instead of enjoying their meeting , would be mourning the loss of ono of our popular and beloved sovereigns . Before the duties of the Lodge were concluded , an interesting presentation took place , Bro . Carvick giving the Lodge , through Bro . C . J . Smith , the warrant and candlesticks of the Lodge when it was located at the Old Tree Inn , Seaford , in 1797 , and bore the name of Royal Cinque
Port Lodge . The thanks of the brethren were tendered to Captain Carvick . Lodge having been duly closed , the brethren sat down to an excellent banquet , provided by Bros . Sayers and Marks , the wellknown caterers . The newly-installed W . M . presided , while Bros . Lockyer , Ridge , and Kent occupied the vice-chairs . The usual loyal toasts wero most enthusiastically received ; then fche W . M .
proposed the Right Hon . the Earl of Carnarvon W . M . ProG . M ., fche Right Hon . the Earl of Skelmersdale V . W . Deputy G . M ., ancl the Officers of the Grand Lodge of England present and past . Bros . J . H . Scott , W . Kuhe , and W . R . Wood responded . The next two toasts were conpled and given from the chair , viz ., Sir Walter W . Bnrrell , M . P ., V . W . Prov . G . G . M ., and the Officers of Prov . G . Lodge of Sussex present and past . Bro . J . II . Scott responded , and while regretting the absence of Sir Walter W . Bnrrell , owing to his Parliamentary duties , trnsted that tho brethren wonld rally round bim on Saturday next at the Grand Lodge meeting , when an address wonld be drawn np , congratulating her Majesty upon hor recent providential escape . Many had said
that in tho face of the Queen ' s safety they were making " much ado ahout nothing . " He thought otherwise , for had the assassin ' s shot beon fatal , the brethren present , instead of enjoying their meeting , would be mourning the loss of ono of our popular and beloved sovereigns .
