The banquet was served in the banqueting room at the Masonio Club , in a manner that reflected great credit on

the Club Steward . Covers were laid for eighty guests , and the menu card , presented to each one was an artistic specimen of the printer ' s art , and contained a portrait of the W . M ., who occupied tho ohair . The toasts of the Queen and the Most Worshipful Grand Master ( H . E . H . the Prince of Wales ) having been enthusiastically honoured on tha initiative of the Chairman , Sir William King

choicest of menus before the brethren , who thoroughly enjoyed tbe provision made for their comfort . The toasts of the Queen ami Craft , the M . W . G . M . of England H . E . H . the Prince of Wales , the M . W . Pro G . M . the Rirht Hon . the Earl of Lathom , the E . W . the D . G . M . the Right Hon . the Earl of Mount Edgcumbe , and the rest of the Grand Officers Present and Past , were given from the chair , the

latter toast being coupled with the name of Bro . Sir Henry Wood , who responded . The W . M ., in proposing the toast of the Prov . G . M . the Eight Hon . Lord Henniker , the D . P . G . M . Eev . C . J . Martyn P . G C , and tbe rest of the Prov . Grand Officers Present and Past , spoke with regret , though not without disappointment , at the absence of Lord Henniker , who bad promised to be present , but telegraphed that he

was unable to fulfil his engagement . He ooupled with the toast the name of Bro . 0 . G . Hayward , who responded . Bro . C . Cheston , gave the toast of the Worshipful Master , and in the course of his remarks said that , excepting the toast which ooupled the loyalty whioh they owed to their Queen and tbe loyalty which they owed to the great brotherhood of which thev were all members , there was no toast

which oime so near home io the hearts of Masons ut that moment as that of the Worshipful Master of the Lodge , and more espaoially on the night on whioh he was installed . They were bound by the closest ties of allegiance to the Grand Master of tho Craffc , and tbe Master of the Province of Suffolk , but no ties could be closer than those which bound them to the Master of their Lodge , who within

certain limits fulfilled so great a measure of usefulness iu Masonio life . He ( the speaker ) bad now passed through the ch lir of many Lodges , and tbat , he supposed , would be the last he should occupy , and tbat was the last installation ceremony he should perform . He went on to say that he had had the best opportunities of watching the work of Bro . Downes in a troublesome and difficult position in a

new Lodge , and fiom which he prophesied that during his year of office in the chair he would perform bin duties with the greatest possible satisfaction to the brethren . The Worahipful Master , in responding , said he onld only promise them th > it nothing should be wanting on his part to faithfully perforin the duties of the ohair into whioh he bad been installed that evening . He would do that to the

best of his ability , but that ability , he reminded them , would have to be backed up by the Officers and members of the Lodge generally . He hoped that all the members should attend regularl y tbe Lodge cf Instruction , so tbat [ they might become proficient in their duties . He hoped during his year of office he should have the privilege of representing the Lodge on a Charity Festival . He concluded by

proposing tbe health of the I . P . M . and Installing Mister , Worshipful Brother Charles Cheston , whom be still hoped to see amongst them as often as possible . Brother Cheston suitably responded , observing that he hoped to have the pleasure of introducing his son , when tbe time came , into the Lodge . Bro . H . G . Quilter gave the Masonic Cbari . ties , coupled witb the name of Bro . Tracy , who responded . The other toasts were the Officers , the Visitors , and tbe Tyler ' s toast .

Bro . Cheston was afterwards presented with a handsome Past Master ' s jewel , in recognition of his services to the Lodge , and this was appropriately acknowledged . The installation banquet followed , Bro . H . G . Quilter placing the

choicest of menus before the brethren , who thoroughly enjoyed tbe provision made for their comfort . The toasts of the Queen ami Craft , the M . W . G . M . of England H . E . H . the Prince of Wales , the M . W . Pro G . M . the Rirht Hon . the Earl of Lathom , the E . W . the D . G . M . the Right Hon . the Earl of Mount Edgcumbe , and the rest of the Grand Officers Present and Past , were given from the chair , the

latter toast being coupled with the name of Bro . Sir Henry Wood , who responded . The W . M ., in proposing the toast of the Prov . G . M . the Eight Hon . Lord Henniker , the D . P . G . M . Eev . C . J . Martyn P . G C , and tbe rest of the Prov . Grand Officers Present and Past , spoke with regret , though not without disappointment , at the absence of Lord Henniker , who bad promised to be present , but telegraphed that he

was unable to fulfil his engagement . He ooupled with the toast the name of Bro . 0 . G . Hayward , who responded . Bro . C . Cheston , gave the toast of the Worshipful Master , and in the course of his remarks said that , excepting the toast which ooupled the loyalty whioh they owed to their Queen and tbe loyalty which they owed to the great brotherhood of which thev were all members , there was no toast

which oime so near home io the hearts of Masons ut that moment as that of the Worshipful Master of the Lodge , and more espaoially on the night on whioh he was installed . They were bound by the closest ties of allegiance to the Grand Master of tho Craffc , and tbe Master of the Province of Suffolk , but no ties could be closer than those which bound them to the Master of their Lodge , who within

certain limits fulfilled so great a measure of usefulness iu Masonio life . He ( the speaker ) bad now passed through the ch lir of many Lodges , and tbat , he supposed , would be the last he should occupy , and tbat was the last installation ceremony he should perform . He went on to say that he had had the best opportunities of watching the work of Bro . Downes in a troublesome and difficult position in a

new Lodge , and fiom which he prophesied that during his year of office in the chair he would perform bin duties with the greatest possible satisfaction to the brethren . The Worahipful Master , in responding , said he onld only promise them th > it nothing should be wanting on his part to faithfully perforin the duties of the ohair into whioh he bad been installed that evening . He would do that to the

best of his ability , but that ability , he reminded them , would have to be backed up by the Officers and members of the Lodge generally . He hoped that all the members should attend regularl y tbe Lodge cf Instruction , so tbat [ they might become proficient in their duties . He hoped during his year of office he should have the privilege of representing the Lodge on a Charity Festival . He concluded by

proposing tbe health of the I . P . M . and Installing Mister , Worshipful Brother Charles Cheston , whom be still hoped to see amongst them as often as possible . Brother Cheston suitably responded , observing that he hoped to have the pleasure of introducing his son , when tbe time came , into the Lodge . Bro . H . G . Quilter gave the Masonic Cbari . ties , coupled witb the name of Bro . Tracy , who responded . The other toasts were the Officers , the Visitors , and tbe Tyler ' s toast .
