A special appeal is being made by the Officers and members of the Ranelagh Lodge , No . 834 , on behalf of Heinrich John Lomer ( son of the late Brother H . Lomer ) , who is a candidate for the benefits of the Royal Masonic Institution for Boys . The lad has only the one chance of the
October election before him , as his age will preclude him from further contests , so that we hope a hearty response will be made to the appeal of the friends of our late Brother , on the son's behalf . Bro . Lomer died in November 18 94 , and left a widow and three children unprovided for , one of
whom is now a pupil at the Girls School . The case is strongly recommended , as we have said , by the Ranelagh Lodge , and by many other Brethren , among them Bro . W .

Some kind of censorship over the character of the music introduced into Masonic installation ceremonials is badly needed , says the "New Zealand Craftsman . " It is quite right that it should have a sacred , or at any rate a solemn character ; but why is it that twice out of three
times the items chosen distinctly assert some dogma or other characteristic of Christianity ? This is an institution that knows no sect , and in which Jew , Christian , Mohammedan , and Parsee can meet on terms of fraternity . In the range of sar . red music their is an abundance that could be found
which , while amongst the most beautiful ever composed , is common to all monotheistic religions . The oratorios abound in suitable items . Why cannot some of these be taken in
lieu of the hackneyed and ( from Masonic view point ) objectionable "Holy City , " and others of this kind . Perhaps the compilers of installation services will take the hint now that their attention has been directed to the matter .
It has been the custom in New South Wales for some years past to omit the banquet incidental to the Installation meeting of Grand Lodge . At a subsequent date a subscription ball is held in aid of the Benevolent Funds .
The omission could be followed with advantage by the Grand Lodge of New Zealand , says the " New Zealand Craftsman . " The ceremonies in connection with the function are quite sufficient for one evening , and much trouble , expense , and indigestion would be saved .
We direct special attention to the very interesting address by Bro . C . H . Martin— " Historical and Fraternal "which we reprint this week from an American contemporary . We do not remember an oration of such all round excellence having come under our notice in recent years .
