COMMITTEE MEETING OF THE BOYS' SCHOOL .

THE General Committee of the Royal Masonio Institution for Boys met on Satnrday , at Freemasons' Hall . Thero were present Bros . Eaynham W . Stewart ( in the chair ) , S . Rosenthal , Don . M . After the reading and confirmation of the minutes , the Chairman mentioned to the brethren the Bubject of tho dispute with Bro . S . B . Wilson , and without any further discussion it was agreed that the House Committee should havo the control of the matier . Five

petition 3 for placing candidates on the list for election to the School were read , and of those three were accepted , ono was deferred , aud one rejected . Outfits were granted to three former pupils , and on tho Chairman mentioning tho inconvenionce of twelve o'clock in tho day as tho hour of meeting for the Quarterly Courts in January and July , Bro . C . F . Matier gave notice of motion for altering tho hour tofour o'clock . The brethren then separated .

The case he is interested in is that of tbe boy Unwin , whose mother has been left with three children quite unprovided for .

Tho Right Hon . tho Lord Mayor , Sir F . W . Trnscott , who was a candidate for Gravesend in tho Conservative interest , was unsuccessful , his Liberal opponent , Mr . Bevan , being returned at the head of the poll . Bro .

Charles Dalrymple , who sat on the Conservative side of tho Honso in the last Parliament , failed to obtain re-election for Buteshire by seventeen votes , the numbers being—for his opponent 5 G 8 votes ; for C . Dalrymple , 551 votes Bro . Dalrymple is P . G . M . for Argyleshire , Scotland .

Our worthy contemporary is just now suffering from a fit of tho horrors , and we sincerely hope it will emerge from it more vigorous than ever ; We judge so at least from its second editorial note of last week , in which , it exclaims against the motion of Bro . H . T .

Thompsonwhom it describes as " one of the leaders of the recent agitation , "—that £ 6 shall be voted to each of a certain number of unsuccessful candidates , towards their education and maintenance until October next . Where , it piteously asks , " is all this nonsense to end " ? And if the Court is to bo

subjected to the infliction of the sarcasm of ono brother , the eloquence of another , and tho preliminary puff and subsequent "high falutin " of a third , why should not Bro . Hedges provide biscuits and sherry all round , with cigarettes for those who like them , " for the support of

exhausted nature , and to soothe excited Life Governors , to say nothing of a much abused Chairman ? " We presume these Courts are not mere formal gatherings for the dispatch of routine business , and that it is open to members attending

them to bring forward proposals they may think likely to prove beneficial , even though they are not of the same mind as the chairman on certain questions of policy . Wo have a great respect for the chairman , but we are a very long way off from thinking him infallible .

The Keystone , quoting from a Boston paper , gives some very interesting particulars of the celebration of the centennial birthday of Bro . Sam . P . Bailey , who was initiated in the Mount Vernon Lodge in 1818 . Among thoso present was a Captain Charles French , who is in his

ninety-sixth year , and we are informed that when Bro . Bailey had sung several verses of an ancient Masonic ode , " with a clear and firm voice , " tho Captain rose and danced with the old-fashioned steps , " in a manner so lively as to elicit great applause , " the way he cut the " pigeon win" - "

being very remarkable " for one who lacks less than five years of being a centenarian . " Bro . Bailey has seven children living out of eleven , ranging from 75 to 55 years years old . Of these four were present on the occasion ,

as well as his only brother , aged 77 , and three grandchildren . Bro . Bailey , it is added , has been a temperance man for some eighty years , and takes no tobacco in any form .

The Grand Lodge of Manitoba held its fiftb annual communication in the Masonic Hall , Winnipeg , on the 11 th February . The Grand Master Bro . Rev . S . P . Matherson having delivered the customary address , the following among other Officers for the ensuing year wero elected and

In a recent number of the Keystone is recorded the death , on tho 3 rd March , of Bro . Captain Dan . P . Bruen , a Past Grand Master of New Jersey , who , having been born in 1795 , had attained the ripe age of eighty-four . Bro . Bruen had been a member of the St . John ' s Lodge ,

Newark , for half a century , and was a direct descendant of Obadiah Bruen , one of the forty-one who founded the town , in which he had so long resided , and of one of whose Lodges he had been so bright an ornament . No less

than six Masonic Lodges were represented at his funeral , the pall-bearers being Past Grand Masters Whitehead , Pine , Wagoner , Marshall B . Smith , Pembrook , Cannon , and Trimble , and Past Masters Valentine and Jones .

The Masonic Board of Relief of New York City has been reorganized , with Bro . F . R . S . Drake , of Lodge No . 16 , as President . Thirty Lodges were represented .
