there were no other nominations , he declared them dnly elected . Scrutineers of votes at tho election of twelve Past Masters to serve on the Board of Benevolence were then chosen and obligated , and having collected the voting cards , they withdraw to count the votes .

Tho report of the Board of Benevolence for tho last quarter was read by the Grand Secretary , and , on the motion of Bro . Robert Givv , senond-ed by Brother James Brett , the grants recommended were confirmed .

The report of the Board of General Purposes was taken as read , received , and ordered to be entered on the minutes on the motion of Bro . Fenn , seconded by Brother ita . Pocock .

Bro . Fenn said there were several recommendations arising out of the report . With respect to the first he was happy to say that Lodge St . Cybi , No . 597 , Holyhead , had , since the business paper had been issued , made its returns to Grand Lodge . They paid no attention to many

applications , but when they saw this proposition on the paper they had made returns and paid their dues , therefore he had to move " that the 13 Lodges firsfc mentioned in the report having failed to make returns be summoned to show cause why they should not be erased . " Dr . Ernest Pocock seconded the resolution , which was put and carried .

Bro . Fenn next proposed , as a matter of form , " That the warrant for a proposed Lodge to be called the Reunion Lodge , Blenheim , New Zealand , No . 2445 , having been returned unused , the Lodge be erased from the list . " Bro . J . E . Le Feuvre seconded , and the motion was carried .

Bro . Fenn next proposed that the recommending referred to in the report of the Snb-Committee for an increase to the salaries of the Clerks and Officials he adopted . The proposition was heartily received and seconded by Bro . F . A . Philbrick , Q . C . Grand Registrar .

Bro . Frank Richardson , who was received with loud cheers , said that as the Chairman of the Special Committee , he had intended to second the motion , but Bro . Philbrick was before him . He thought all the brethren would admit

thafc the work of the Grand Secretary ' s office ought to be well done . Now , if they ought to have the work well done , they must have competent brethren to do it , and they must pay them properly for what they did .

Dr . Ernest Pocock , on behalf of tho elected members of the Committee , said tho report was passed with absolute unanimity . Bro . W . F . Lamonby desired to move a friendly amendment as regarded the Sub-Librarian . Those members of

Grand Lodge who woro interested in the history and philosophy , and the history generally of Masonry , were thoronghly conversant with the scholarly zeal and industry with which Bro . Sadler performed the onerous duties of his office . He noticed in the report tho Board considered

Bro . Sadler ' s present salary inadequate . He would go a step further , and say thafc the proposition of the Board was still inadequate . Ifc might interest members of Grand Lodge to know thafc in one of the youngest Grand Lodges

in the British possessions they paid their head librarian £ 100 per annum for work aud responsibility amounting to not one-fourth of that performed by Bro . Sadler . He therefore would move as an amendment that £ 50 be substituted for £ 40 .

Bro . Richard Eve P . G . Treasurer agreed with what had been said about Bro . Sadler's services , and seconded Brother Lamouby ' s amendment . If ifc had been proposed to give him £ 300 a year it would nofc have beeu too much for him to have .

The Earl of Mount Edgcumbe having pointed out that the amendment was irregular because ifc was nofc competent to move an amendment for an increase of a sum

recommended , except notice of motion had been previousl y given said ho could not pat the amendment . He then put the original motion , which was carried unanimously amid loud cheer ? .

Reginald Hanson , M . P ., and Sir Matthew Whito Ridley as Wardens . A letter was read by Bro . Matier , the Grand Secretary ,

which had been received from Sir Francis Knollys , acknowledging , on behalf of the Prince of Wales , the loyal address of congratulation from Grand Mark Lodge on the occasion of the marriage of the Duke and Duchess of York .

The Prince of Wales was afterwards nominated by Bro . Eugene Monteuuis for re-election as Grand Master , and Bro . F . Mead Grand Treasurer nominated Bro . R . Turtle Pigott as Grand Treasurer for the next year . After some other business Grand Lodge was closed .

Shurmur is certainly one of the best workers in this beautiful degree , and ifc

was a great pleasure to listen to him . He was mosfc ably supported by his Officers , particularly by Comp . Speller in his careful work of the P . S . Comp . Shurmur then inducted the three Principals into thoir chairs . Comp . Graveley thanked Corap . Shurmur for the honour he had done him in installing him and his brother Officers . The M . E . Grand Officers Present and Past being also hononred . Comp . Shurmur proposed the health of tho M . E . Z . in eulogistic terms , expressing the great gratification they one and all felfc in seeing him in the very proud position of M . E . Z . of the Shurmur Chapter . A distinguished member of fche Board of General Parposes , a Companion brimming over with benevolence , he would

no doubt mako the Chapter a great success and one of the largest in the Province . Tbe M . E . Z . thanked Comp . Shnrmur for his kind remarks con . cerning himself . | In succeeding Comp . Shurmur as the M . E . Z . he felt nervous in following such an excellent worker in their beautiful ceremonies . He thanked the Companions for putting 20 guineas

on his list as they had done , and felt very desirous to take np afc least 200 guineas . He thanked fche Companions from the bottom of his heart for their kind support , and as an Englishman he would endeavour to discharge his duties to their satisfaction and to the best of his ability . The toast ot H . and 3 . were given and responded to by Companions

Bring and Pinder , the latter of whom is a very old companion of the M . E . Z ., and stated he had always done his duty to his old friend and always would . The toast of the Installing Master was given by the M . E . Z . They saw Comp . Shurmur installed last year , but this year he hoped to see him installed as the Grand Treasurer of England . He expressed

the great pleasure he felt in presenting Comp . Shurmur with a P . Z . ' s jewel for his valuable services , and wished him many years ot * health to be with them . Comp . Shurmur stated it was quite impossible for him to acknowledge the kindness he had received all round . He had to thank Comp . T . C . Edmonds for his great kindness and assistance . He had

endeavoured to carry out the beautiful ritual , and had secured appro , bation . They had determined he shonld be nominated for Grand Treasurer ; he shonld try and be successful and do all in his power to attain that proud position . He thanked them for the valuable jowel they had given him and should value it immensely . The toast of the Exaltees was responded to by Rov . Comp . Buchanan

and Comp . Lowry , and the toast to the Visitors by Comps . Dehano , Edmonds , and Crutobley . Comp . Shnrmnr gave the toast of the Charities , which was replied to by Comps . Dehane aud White , who thanked the Companions for their great support . In nearly all their cases they were successful . This closed a very busy aud pleasant meeting to the satisfaction of all .

We are glad to see that " Sowing the Wind" afc the Comedy is still reoeiviug that snpporc and approbation from the public which the high tone of the play and the able and , clever way in whioh ifc is performed entitles it to .
