Prince of Wales Lodge , No . 959 , Ipswich . —The members of this Lodere held their installation meeting on Monday evening , at the Golden Lion Hotel , Ipswich . The Lodge having been regularly opened and the minutes of last meeting confirmed , two brethren were passed . The W . M . elect , Bro . W . D . Paine , was then presented , and nil the brethren below the chair having retired , be

was duty installed by Bro . the Rev . R . N . Sanderson , who performed his duties in an ablo and pleasing manner . On the readmission of the brethren the new W . M . received the customary salutes , and then invested his Officers . After a hearty vote of thanks had been passed to the late W . M ., Bro . Bennett , for the admirable way in which he

had discharged his duties , tho brethren adjourned to the banqueting room , where the new W . M . presided . The nsnal Loyal and Craft toasts having been given , the health of the W . M . and Immediate Past Master were warmly received , and the meeting closed with the Tyler ' s toast . The harmony of the evening was considerably en . hanced by the singing of Bros . D . D . Steele , Grayston and Abbott .

The brethren of this LoHge have the novel and noteworthy system of partaking of refreshment before business . The Lodge room is adjoining the Unicorn Hotel , and the catering is provided by the hospitable host , who is a brother . After enjoying a bountiful tea , the

brethren repaired to business , the Lodge being opened at 6 . 30 . The minutes of the last meeting were read and ratified . Tbo ballot was taken for Bro . Geo . F . Smith as a joining member , and proved unanimous in his favour . The ballot v \ as also taken for Mr . Wm . Griffin and Mr . F . R . B . Lindsell , and proved in each case unanimous . Mv . Wm , Griffin being in attendance was duly initiated

into onr Order . The Worshipful Master deserves great credit for the efficient and impressive manner in which he performed the ceremony , especially as this was his first effort . It remains for the subordinate Officers to emulate him . In accordance with a notice of motion , Worshipful Bro . Kirk moved that bye-law No . 6 be expunged from tho book of Bye Laws . The motion was seconded by

Bro . Gilbody . After an earnest appeal from Worshipful Bro . Hinde , who is always zealous on behalf of our noble Charities , the word " expunged" was " expunged , " and the word " suspended" substituted , which met the approval of the brethren . Other business of a formal nature having been gone through , the Lodge was closed in harmony , with solemn prayer . By request of the W . M ., the brethren

adjourned , to reassemble at the customary social board . Bro . Siddeley in the temporary absence of the W . M . took tho chair , and availed him - self of the pleasure of proposing the two first toasts of the evening , which were duly honoured . Tbe Worshipful Brother entrusted the toast of tho Pro Grand Master and Deputy Grand Master of England to the S . W . This was cordially received . Bro . Siddeley reserved

to himself the pleasure of proposing a toast which brought them nearer home , and which they all delighted to bonour . The sincere regard manifested by the brethren of the Province for their Prov . G . Master , testified to the inestimable aid rendered to the Craft by Lord De Tabley , whose many virtues were known in and out of the Craft . He called upon the brethren to drink to the very good health

of their Prov , Grand Master , upon whose life and health depended greatly the prosperity of the Province . The toast was drunk with tbe greatest enthusiasm and with Masonic honours . Upon Bro . Cook J . W . devolved the duty of proposing the health of the Deputy Provincial Grand Master , which he did very ably , uniting with it tho names of Bros . Hinde and Baker . This was warmlv

received , and Bro . Hinde returned thanks . The toast being so heartily proposed and drnnk , indicated the appreciation of the brethren for the Prov . Grand Officers . The cordial manifestation exhibited by the brethren round the festive board showed the good feeling existing in the Province among all members of the Craft . On

behalf of his brother Officers he expressed bis sincere wishes for the continned prosperity bf the Province . Bro . Baker said , I have to thank you , as one of the Prov . Grand Officers of this Province , for the very warm manner in which the last toast has been received . I deem it a great distinction and a high bonour to be a Prov . Graud Officer under such a worthy and noble Master as Lord Da Tabley .

Bro . Lewis kindly favoured with a song . Bro . Birch next proposed the toast of the newly initiated brother ; in doing so he assured the brethren that Bro . Griffin vronld do his duty aa a Mason as thoroughly as he did in his every day capacity , in which he was honoured and esteemed . The toast was most fraternally received . The W . M . returned , and Bro . Siddeley relinquished the chair . By request of

the Worshipful Master , Bro . Cook gave a very amusing recitation ; after which Bro . Griffin responded to the honour con . ferred upon him , in a very touching manner . Bro . Hinde rose : he assumed the gavel to propose a toast which was at all times given with the deepest feeling of pleasure , and received with the utmost cordiality in the Lodge , indeed , we of the Stamford Lodge , extend a

hearty greeting to all our brethren , no matter from what clime they may come ; we hold the claims of all brethren to be mutual . It is a source of great pleasure to the brethren of this Lodge to welcome visiting brethren , they hope the day may be long distant when they cannot reckon on visitors in their Lodge , and round their festive board . He had pleasure in uniting with the toast the name of Bro . Davies .

The toast was drank with great cordiality . Bro . Thompson kindly responded to the call for a solo on the flute , which he gave in capital style . Bro . Davies in returning thanks for the honour conferred upon the Visitors , referred , among other matters , to a rule established in the Stamford Lodge , which required a password to be given to the I . G . before leaving the Lodge . He explained that

he came armed with every weapon necessary to gain admittance to a Lodge , but tbe stern sense of duty of the faithful I . G . totally disarmed him , and he had to resume bis seat . The brethren evidently enjoyed this episode in the evening ' s pleasure , and heartily applauded Bro . I . G . for his fidelity . This question was the means of opening up a lively chat , and Worshipful Brother Birch explained the

practice was instituted for the purpose of maintaining regularity and order . The system is doubtless commendable in its object , as it prevents that very objectionable parading in and out of the Lodge room during business . Bnt the question is , Whence comes it ? Is it new or old ? Bro . Baker kindly responded to tho call for a song , after which Bro . Siddeley in a very

pleasing and complimentary manner proposed the health of Bro . Birch , whom they delighted to honour as one of the fathers of the Lodge . The toast was heartily drank . Bro . Birch on rising was received with applause , he said I cannot fail to recognize the great kindness shown me in the cordial reception of this toast . I look back with a great deal of pleasure to my connection with this Lodge , and I look forward with deep interest for its welfare . I am always ready to

render every assistance in my power to advance the objects of the Craft , for which I havo great regard . I should have been here tonight to witness the ceremony of tho initiation of my friend Bro . Griffin , but ureent bnsiness prevented me , I am happy to meet the brethren round this social board . Bro . Lewis again kindly favoured tho brethren with a song j after which tho Tyler ' s toast brought a very pleasant evening to a close .

A petition was handed for the signature of tbe brethren present from a brother who had sustained serious personal injuries , also loss of property estimated at £ 750 , through tbe late whirlwind that visited Lower Walmer . The Lodge was closed in solemn form , and the brethren spent a pleasant hour together .

The Lodge was opened in due form , and , on the

preliminary business being arranged , was opened up to the 2 nd degree ; the ceremony of passing was rehearsed , Bro . L . Coubro being the candidate . The Lodgo was then resumed to the 1 st degree , and Bros . J . Coubro of 1150 and Manghan of 19 were unanimously elected members . The Lodge was then closed in perfect harmony , considerably earlier than usual , to enable the brethren to attend the inauguration of the Second Clapton Benevolent Association , which

was commenced with nearly fifty members . The Secretary wishes to take this opportunity to inform the members of the Lodge and intending visitors that Bro . Barkin has kindly placed at the disposal of the members a most comfortably furnished room for the winter , the regular Lodge-room being considerably too large and cold ; the members present on this occasion seemed fully to appreciate the change .
