REPORTS OF MEETINGS .

We shall be pleased to receive particulars of Masonic meetings for insertion in our columns , and where desired will endeavour to send a representative , to report Lodge or other proceedings .

CRAFT : METROPOLITAN

ALEXANDRA PALACE LODGE , No . 1541 . THE installation meeting was held on Saturday , 25 th ult ., at the Holborn Viaduct Hotel , and passed off with great eclat . The principal business was the installation of Bro . C . J . Drummond S . W . as W . M . for the ensuing year , the ceremony being performed by the retiring W . M . Bro . 3 . F . Purton , in a manner that called forth highest praise from all nresent .

Having appointed and invested the Officers for the year , the W . M . presented his predecessor with a Past Master ' s jewel , which had been unanimously voted to him by the Lodge . A feature of the evening , and one that , gave the liveliest satisfaction , not only to the new W . M ., but also to the Lodge , was the receipt from H . R . H . the Prince of Wales Most Worshipful Grand Master of the following telegram : "The Grand Master desires me to congratulate you on your installation as Worshipful Master of the Alexandra Palace Lodge . —Knollys . " Upwards of 60 brethren afterwards dined together at the Holborn Viaduct Hotel .

The Lodge was advanced to the second and third degrees , and resumed to the first . Bro . Williams , with the assistance of the Brethren , rehearsed the first and second sections , and Bro . Ridgway worked the third . The Lodge was called off and on , and then closed . Bro . Ridgway will preside at the next meeting .

WESTBOURNE LODGE , No . 733 . ON Tuesday , 28 th ult ., Bro . G . Weaver W . M ., Ridgway S . W ., Busby J . W . ., H . Dehane P . M . Preceptor , R . J . Rogers P . M . Treas ., G . Mogford P . M . Sec , T . Mogford W . M . S . D ., G . Knight P . M . J . D ., W . Medland I . G ., G . Shield , Mathews , J . Wynman , and others . The Lodge was opened to the second degree , Bro . Shield answered the usual questions leading to the third , and retired . Bro . R . Rogers P . M . was entrusted and the ceremony of raising was rehearsed .

Bro . Weaver was highly complimented by Bro . Dehane Preceptor , who said the working Bro . Weaver had done that evening gave great satisfaction . Bro . Ridgway was elected to preside at the next meeting .

The ceremony of initiation was rehearsed , Bro . Knight candidate . The Lodge was called off , and on resumption Brother Weaver was examined and entrusted , and the ceremony of passing was rehearsed . Both ceremonies were rendered in an able manner . Bro . Busby was elected to preside next Tuesday .

ROYAL ALFRED LODGE , No . 780 . ON Thursday , 23 rd ult ., at Bro . Purkiss > , Star and Garter Hotel , Kew Bridge , Bro . E . Williams W . M ., R . W . Robinson S . W ., J . Dinnis P . M . J . The W . M . rehearsed the ceremony of initiation , Bro . Keene acting as candidate , and then proceeded with the full explanation of the tracing board which was highly appreciated . ¦ ' The W . Botley answered the questions leading to the third and that ceremony was gone through .

lhe W . M . having resumed the chair , Bro . S . W . Keene was elected a member , which compliment was duly acknowledged , Bro . Keene at the same time congratulating the Brethren on their excellent working . Bro . Robinson was elected to preside at the next meeting .

M . gave the ancient charge , in an excellent manner , ¦ bod ge was then called off and on , and then opened in the second degree , when Bro . Blaydes answered the usual questions and was entrusted , and the ceremony of raising was rehearsed .

Bro . Dinnis was elected to the W . M . ' s chair for the next meeting . We ma y mention that this Lodge of Instruction is regularly attended by many of the best workers of the Craft residing in the district , and the genial proprietor of the Hotel ( Bro . Captain Purkiss ) is always pleased to see any of his old Masonic friends .

The ceremony of initiation was rehearsed , Bro . Nicholls personating the candidate . This ceremony being ended the Lodge was opened in the second degree , and the W . M . kindly vacated the chair in favour of Bro . Holland Preceptor , who intimated that the ceremony of installation would be rehearsed . Bro . Read was presented as W . M .-elect by Bro . Nicholls acting as D . C , and after the obligation was installed . Bro . Read invested the Officers , after which Bro . Holland delivered the threo addresses . All the ceremonies were faultlessly rendered .

Bro . Nicholls proposed that a hearty vote of thanks be recorded on the minutes for the exceptional Masonic treat Bro . Holland had given to the members . Bro . Holland said it was a great pleasure to rehearse the ceremony , and in fact every Past Master should do the same if it was for the benefit of the Lodge . Bro . Aris was elected to preside at the next meeting .

BRONDESBURY LODGE , No . 2698 . ON Wednesday , at Bro . W . C . Coxen ' s , the Earl of Derby , 155 High Road , Kilburn , Bros . J . H . Clemens W . M ., J . Gawthorp S . W ., M . Spiegel P . M _ J . W ., A . F . Hardyment Preceptor , R . J . Campbell acting Sec , J . Marks S . D ., J . Smith J . D ., J . Fraser I . G ., J . Wynman , and others . The cerempny of initiation was rehearsed , with Bro . Marks as the candidate . The W . M . advanced the Lodge to the second and third degrees , and then closed down .

Bro . Campbell proposed that the meetings be postponed till the second Wednesday in September , which was seconded by Bro . Hardyment Preceptor , and carried unanimously .

PROVINCIAL .

RURAL PHILANTHROPIC LODGE , No . 291 . ON Friday , 1 st inst ., the ceremony of installing Bro . F . W . Bishop S . W . as successor to Bro . J . Burnett was very ably performed by Bro . R . C . Else D . Prov . G . M . Past Grand Deacon of England . The W . M ., who was presented for installation by Past Masters J . T . Dunsford and B . 0 . Board , afterwards appointed and invested his Officers for the year .

ROYAL YORK LODGE , No . 315 . THE Brethren of this Ledge , in conjunction with the members of the York Royal Lodge of Instruction , held their annual summer outing on the 6 th inst ., when the party , numbering nearly 100 , and including a fair sprinkling of ladies , paid a visit to several of the most charming spots in North Sussex . Leaving Brighton by the 10-25 train , the company , on reaching WestHoathly , drove to Ashdown Forest , where they were joined by several

of the brethren of the Sackville Lodge , East Grinstead . Shortly before one o ' clock the large party , favoured by delightful weather , partook of a champagne picnic luncheon in the Forest , and then , continuing their drive , proceeded in carriages through the Forest to Brambletye , and thence , via East Grinstead , Blackwood Hollow , and Bellagio , to the Dormans Park Hotel , where they sat down to an excellent dinner .

Bro . W . E . Nash W . M ., who may be warmly congratulated upon the success of the outing , presided , the vice-chair being occupied by Bro . H , Kent sen . P . M . P . P . G . S . B . The W . M . said that he was desirous that their time should not be occupied with long speeches , and was anxious that one toast only—that of the Queen—should be given .

That toast having been duly honoured , Bro . G . Anley said it gave him great p leasure to propose a hearty vote of thanks to their W . M . Bro . W . _ E . Nash , for the admirable manner in which he had superintended the arrangements made for the pleasure of the company during the day . The W . M ., in responding , said that if the outing had proved enjoyable he and the Committee who had worked with him were satisfied , and he was glad to learn that they had all experienced a very happy and charming day - '

The Company then dispersed , some taking part in croquet and bowls , while others adjourned to the Drawing Room , where an impromptu musical programme was sustained by Bro . Pitchmann , Bro . W . Fleet , Mr . Argyle Galloway , and Mrs . Galloway , the duties o £ accompanist being in the hands of Bro . W . N . Roe . The party left Dormans Station by the 8-44 train , and Brighton was reached at 10-20 .

The duties of Hon . Secretary were admirably carried out by Bro . T . H , Challis , who was assiduous in his attention to the Brethren and their guests , while excellent support was also given to the W . M . by a Sub-Committee comprising Bros . B . Drury , A . W . Payne , H . G . Burghope , C . J . Carter , and VV H . Hills . o o o
