command . The Worshipful Master then proposed the toast of the Visitors ; ho was pleased to seo them , and so was every member of the Lodge . Ho would call on Bros . Emdin and Gillard , as W . M . 's , and Bros . Scott and H . M . Levy , as Past Masters , to respond . Each of these brethren , in returning thanks , complimented tho Worshipful Master on his able working auil excellent presidency . The Worshipful

Master next proposed the toast of the Past Masters ; there were three . Bro . Beck was tho father of tho Lodge , and ho would call on him to respond . Bro . L . Beck was pleased to say he was really th ^ only Past Master of tho Lodge . True , there wero other Past Masters who had fulfilled the duties of Secretary , & c , but ho was proud to say he was the first Worshipful Master . Ho hoped to continue in

the capacity of Past Master and Treasurer for many years . The Worshipful Master then said ho had great p leasure in proposing the health of the W . M . elect ; in selecting him tho members placed the right man in the right place . The brethren were assnred that during his year of office Bro . Crossland would do good service to the Lodge . One and all might bo proud of him , as , by the manner in which he

had filled each junior office there could be no doubt that as Worshipful Master he would be a credit to the Lodge . Bro . Crossland W . M . elect replied ; that night was a great epoch in his history ; to be elected W . M . of this excellent Lodge was indeed an honour . He felt diffidence in following in the footsteps of so worthy a predecessor as their Worshipful Master ; in fact , no better Master could be found in

any Lodgo . The Visitors had truly said , after they had watched his working , he was letter perfect . In speaking to the toast of the Officers , the Worshipful Master said without their able assistance the Lodge could not so havo prospered ; he would call on the Junior Warden , Bro . Duret , to respond . Bro . Duret felt pleased to hear the encomiums passed on him ; he sincerely trusted he had given satisfaction . If they felt he had done his duty it was pleasing to him to

hear it . During the evening the brethren enjoyed a great musical treat by the charming singing of Miss Beck—a daughter of Bro . L . Beck P . M . —who was deservedly encored in her several songs . Bro . Green jun . and several other brethren likewise contributed to the harmony , while Bro . Borrow , the Organist of the Lodge , not only sang himself , but accompanied on the piano the other vocalists . The Tyler ' s toast was then given , and the brethren separated .

Egyptian Lodge of Instruction , No . 27 . —Held at Bro . Maidwell ' s , Hercules Tavern , Leadenhall-street , on Thursday , 31 st March . Present—Bros . N . P . Vallentine W . M ., H . J . Phillips S . W ., Ward J . D ., Paton I . G ., Webb Preceptor , L . Norden , and other brethren . Lodge was opened with usual formalities . The W . M . rehearsed tho ceremony of initiation , Bro . Mesquito acting as

candidate . Bro . L . Norden worked the first , Bro . Vallentine the fourth , and Bro . G . H . Stephens the fifth sections of the lecture . Bro . Webb proposed , and Bro . Norden seconded , that Bro . G . H . Stephens be invited to work the Fifteen Sections , on the fourth Thursday in April . Bro . Stephens kindly accepted the invitation . Lodge was closed in due form .

were raised . Great credit is due to the W . M . for the excellent manner in which he performed the ceremonies . His rendering of the traditional history was very impressive . Bro . L . Alexander proposed , and it was seconded and carried unanimously , that the W . M . for the time being be the President of the Benevolent Fund . The resignation of a Brother , in consequence of inability to attend , was

accepted with regret . This brother kindly sent the sum of 21 s as a donation to the Benevolent Fund of the Lodge . After routine business , and a discussion on some proposed alterations in the Byelaws , a distressed brother was relieved . Lodge was closed and " slight" refreshment followed . The toasts were done full justice to , and the proceedings were enlivened by songs , recitations , & c .

Dalhousie Lodge of Instruction , Wo . 860 . —On Tuesday , 5 th April , at Bro . Smyth's , Sisters' Tavern , Pownall-road , Dalston . Present—Bros . Edwards W . M ., Clark S . W ., Christian J . W ., Catlin S . D ., Glass J-D ., Dignam I . G ., J . Lorkin Secretary , P . M . Wallington Preceptor , Smyth Treasurer ; also Bros . Brasted , Collins , Williams , Forss , Polak , and others . Lodge was opened in due form , and minutes of last meeting were read and confirmed . The ceremony of initiation

was rehearsed , Bro . Collins acting as candidate . Bro . Forss worked the first , second , third , and fourth sections of the lecture , assisted by the brethren . Bro . Clark was elected W . M . for the ensuing week . A cordial vote of thanks was ordered to be recorded on the minutes for the able manner in which the W . M . had performed the dnties of the chair , it being the first time he had occupied the same in any Lodge . All Masonic business being ended , Lodge was closed in due form and adjourned .

Lodge was opened , and the minutes of the former regular , and of nr emergency meeting , were confirmed . Mr . J . R . H . Miller was bal . lotted for and duly initiated into the Order . The W . M . gave the brethren a taste of his qu-lity in the way he delivered the lecture on the tracing board of the second degree ; while his rendering of the

Six Periods of Creation especially received the deserved encomiums of those present . The Lodge was then closed , and the brethren sat down to an excellent banquet provided by Bro . A . Best , and snperhi . tended by Bro . Dawkins . The W . M . eloquently proposed the toasts , and complimentary speeches were in the ascendant . Several of tlw brethren contributed to the harmony of the evening .

The first business was the discussion of a notice of

motion by Bro . Horsey , "That the meetings of this Lodge be held on the third Thursdays of the months named in the warrant , instead of the second Thursdays as therein stated .
